  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Hopefully not until September, because if he is up that early, it means a lot of things went wrong. It could also mean there's no sense letting a better pitcher go to waste in the minors when he could be helping in a pennant race. September always seems to mean you're out of it by then. Replacing even a mediocre pitcher with a better one can always make a difference especially in the post season.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) based on what the organization has said, I'm gonna guess fulmer is on this team by june It's possible if he is throwing well in the minors. This spring they haven't over exposed him. Today's outing was the longest of the spring. He's learned a lot. Now he just has to apply it and everyone loves his attitude.
  3. Turner out after only 2 innings Fulmer in. It's worth noting Cooper said he thought Fulmer was ahead of where Rodon was at this same time last year.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) There's a few pieces of the puzzle missing between Kenny's request to " dial it back " and LaRoche retiring over the matter. I think there were players that may have been uncomfortable with constantly watching their language and the content of their discussions as well as a few players may have wanted their kids around more often since LaRoche was able to do so with Drake which would put the FO in a most unenviable position. Of course I'm speculating but there's more to this than what's being reported. Thank goodness AJ isn't still around with his blow up doll
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 06:41 AM) Not at all. If Jose Abreu had a kid in the clubhouse every day, KW wouldn't have said squat. And Soxtalk would be abuzz with what the f*** is KW doing if he actually did and Abreu made a stink over it. I just think the team should have a clear policy one way or the other. You still don't get it. When an employee is bad at his job (LaRoche) and he's getting paid a huge sum of money management has every right to look for causes of the suckiness. If, in their opinion, LaRoche wasn't dedicated enough to his job by the presence of his kid then why can't management ask to curtail the kids presence ? If Abreu, LaRoche or whoever can perform their job well despite distractions why would management ask them to change anything ? Just because no one dare speak that performance is a factor in determining these things doesn't mean it isn't.
  6. Remember the 2002 World Series when JT Snow scooped up Dusty Baker's son as he crossed home plate ?
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) Bottom line Laroche wasn't told he couldn't have his kid in the clubhouse. People are acting like thats what happened but it didnt. He is there payed to play baseball. His kid being there or not shouldn't justify him to being able to play. If he can't handle stepping onto the field to preform with his son not in the dugout or in the clubhouse then there is a issue. It's not like he's going to another country to play baseball and won't see his kid in months. Might not be a good comparison but we have men and women who serve their country and have families that they leave all the time. They know they have to go and do their job. LaRoche is playing a sport but can't do it with out his kid so he quits. What is wrong with this picture. question raised is why is it a problem now. Something had to have changed since he signed and was allowed to have the kid this whole time with him before. Especially in the last week place since it was reported that Kenny had to talk to him twice about it. If this was an issue last year then why didnt the Sox say something before. Maybe they did but it was never reported. Something has to give. The argument going around somewhat in this thread is if LaRoche had played better it wouldn't be an issue as if the Sox give preferential treatment to good players and its wrong. However if you play badly naturally the club looks for reasons why you have played badly. Having to devote so much time to his son , I could see how management might think he needs to focus more on being a better player. You're getting payed a hefty sum of money to do just that. He's not getting paid $13M to be Mr. Mom but to focus on and play the game at a level commensurate with his salary.
  8. Hanley BS again ? Why can't this die ? I hated it the first time around and still do. Wouldn't take him if he was free.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) After thinking about this during the evening, I'm not so sure the need to add another outfielder. If LaRoche does retire, it opens the door for the Sox to put one of Avi/Melky in the DH spot and keep one of them off the field which is what many of us wanted all along. Once healthy Eaton can play RF with Jackson in CF and Melky/Avi in LF/DH. Shuck and probably Sands would be the bench outfielders. That's what I thought but still need another LH bat and Morneau fills that void better than LaRoche if he can avoid hurting his head in any way. No headbanging or slaps on the helmet for him during walk offs. Have to beat the Red Sox to the punch since they are interested. Morneau bashes righties and is better than LaRoche against lefties.
  10. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) With Morneau still looking for a suitor should the White Sox be considering his services in case LaRoche doesn't get healthy? Well it's definitely a strong possibility now and would probably be an upgrade from LaRoche if Morneau can stay healthy. He put up a very good season in 2014 and missed most of last year with his neck and concussion problems but hit the crap out of the ball when he returned in September. He also had good road splits if anyone is worried about the Coors effect and he hits lefties better than LaRoche while his OBP was good too in 2014 and 2015 (very limited AB's). The Red Sox have shown interest in him so if he signs there in the next few days it's probably because they know the White Sox signing him is a possibility. Whoever signs him my guess is it's around $3-5M for 1 year.
  11. Lost in all the hubbub of the day was David Robertson making his 1st appearance of the spring and pitching a scoreless inning.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) Well, at least for today, the solution was Eaton at DH, but that really doesn't help our outfield defense much when you have Garcia and Cabrera both playing. At some point they're going to have to decide which is the best option, Eaton in LF and Cabrera DHing with Garcia in RF, trying to move Cabrera to RF...then there's the options in the form of Sands and Shuck, but that's not ideal, either. The most LIKELY solution would be Jay Bruce, because of the LH preference, but then you still have to put him or Garcia or Cabrera in RF...which couldn't be any worse than last year, I guess. Is Dominic Brown still available? Nope...looks like he's with the Jays, who still have a surplus. Michael Saunders? Travis Snider would have been another possibility, but the Royals control his rights for now. There are plenty of LH options, but not many are what you would consider "power" hitters or middle of the line-up guys. At this point I wouldn't trade Avi for Bruce.Need another good fielding OF and Bruce does not qualify. Just trade in one tall, white, mid- 30's, DH/1B of French descent for another. Monsieur Morneau votre table est prête.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Walk off homer for Davidson!! Oppo shot. 22 AB's .455 Avg. , 1.523 OPS, 4 HR's only 2 K's .
  14. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) With LaRoche out of the picture, does Davidson have a legit shot at making the roster after stinking it up in AAA the past two seasons? Most likely no.RH DH is probably Avi when he's not in the OF and Melky when he is. He's just not versatile enough playing only 3rd base when Sox have Frazier, Lawrie and Saladino who can all play 3rd and are all right handed like Davidson.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Petricka blown save. 6-6. Coats homered earlier. Coats 3rd ties Davidson for team lead.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Davidson bomb. 5-3 lead in the 7th. Good spring. 21st AB . Team lead in HR's with 3 only 2 K's. .439 B.A. As good a reason as any that Olt was released. Q with the ... get ready for it... NO DECISION.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) I know it's kind of silly but this was my thought. This board is really going to go after Avi this year without LaRoche around. If he continues to hit like he has this spring the board will be deliriously happy for him and chanting MVP !! MVP !!
  18. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) Josh Reddick, please. Trade deadline for Reddick and would only be a rental . FA in 2017.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) Morneau played 40 games with the Twins in AJ's last season there, 2003. Maybe from Spring Training there's something, but that's a lot of hate for a guy from a short amount of time in ST. I didn't look up that part of it but opponents hated AJ anyway. And Ozzie was always flapping his lips though mostly respectfully with the piranha stuff.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) cincy will need to look into doing a salary dump. i will look at that first, play hard ball with cincy. Morneau i keep hearing this, but i am asking, how much of the col factor is in those stats. Not a lot . Good road splits.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) Whether that will actually matter when there's money on the table I don't know. Much easier to hold onto a rivalry when none of your money is on the table. One more version of it from 06: I think he played with AJP a few years and probably didnt get along with him so that last added quote about "anyone but the Sox" most likely is because AJ was there in 2006 which is no longer the case . Also Ozzie always stirred up the rivalry talking about the "piranhas". Doubt it matters now when you don't have a job.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Justin Morneau will never sign with the White Sox, ever. Even if we were the last team on Earth. Not happening. Beggars can't be choosers but what issues from the past are you referring to ?
  23. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) No thanks to anyone with recurrent concussion issues. Morneau did hit .316/.363/.487 with 20 homers in 732 PA over the last two seasons and he won the NL batting title in 2014, so it’s rather surprising that his market has been almost entirely quiet. (from MLB trade rumors) 2014 wasn't so long ago and he had concussion problems before then although they did resurface again last year along with a neck issue but he seemed to have come back pretty strongly .
  24. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) With the 'found money' if Laroche is truly done, maybe now we can swing a deal for CarGO that doesn't include Anderson or Fulmer. The extra money in theory lets us take on more of his contract, and thus offer less quality prospects. I'd rather pursue that then Morneau or Bruce... Trading Cargo would make the Rockies front office look like liars since Parra signed there to play with him and they've pretty much said Cargo isn't going anywhere.
  25. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Too bad he didn't do this when Cespedes was still out there.. Cespedes will be there next year too when the Sox have even more money to spend.
