QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) Jose taking pitches He better take pitches. With men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs the pitcher is extra careful because a walk sets up the double play so would be foolish for Abreu to be swing happy in that situation. -

White Sox sign 4 on July 2 signing day

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 07:35 AM) I like the signing. Hopefully he's up by 2020. Where is Yoan Moncada ? Is he eligible for this . I thought he was . -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 07:20 AM) The Sox aren't going over the cap. They just don't do it. We'll see about that shortly.

You're all arguing like it's impossible to sign this kid and sign the other guys. If the Sox think this kid is worth it they can go over their pool money just like the several other teams are going to do. Despite the penalty several teams are going to do it. You have to look at it like free agency and the penalties as part of the price of getting the top talent. If you're going to play with the big boys then sometimes you have to stop sitting at the kids table.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) Abreu will hit .300 this season. You heard it here first. I'm sure some predicted it in the Abreu thread predicting his slash line. So far from the 1st

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Its scary to think, as good as Abreu is right now, that he is 26 and will only get better as he sees more MLB pitching. 27

Hawk might be giving up on " El Cañón" and start going with " El Hombre".

Should He or Shouldn't He ?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) I'd love to see it, it's a lot of fun, but if he's so set against it, that's his call. Get Dunner in that thing Wouldn't that be so cool seeing Dunn and Abreu hitting 450 foot blasts. -
Teammate of Abreu and this International signing period was supposed to be what Hahn was very interested in doing. But now all the big money teams look they they are trying to sign the majority of the good prospects despite huge penalties for going over allotment before the rules change . I can't say with 100% certainty the Sox will sign him but they do need to make more of a splash than what we have been hearing lately about getting maybe 2 players and both outside the top 30.

Should He or Shouldn't He ?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm sure many here feel like I do having mixed feelings about it. It's so rare that the Sox are the topic of national attention and for that reason alone would love to see Jose gushed about in the HR Derby since he may only get 1 or 2 AB's in the game itself. We all wanted to see if Jose 's hitting got hot along with the weather and for that reason I don't want to see him participate. After all it's possible he could raise his BA to around .300 and hit close to 50 HR's . During the 14 game hitting streak I've seen less and less of the terrible swings we sometimes see against low and away sliders and curves. I'm just guessing but I'm sure his K rate has gone down over this last 2 weeks stretch of games compared to his season rate. -

Everybody wants to know . Will Jose Abreu participate in the All-Star HR Derby contest which is usually the highlight of the proceedings besides the game itself. Abreu's been saying "no "but leaving his option open. He has been in 5 HR Derby's in Cuba but feels it messes up his swing. I'd love to see him participating. White Sox news that reaches the whole nation is rare. But if he isn't comfortable doing it to hell with it. How does everyone else feel about it ?

Another White Sox Winner

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) Best case scenario 86-76 gets the 2nd wildcard. Sox would have to go 47-32. Not happening. Yea going 50-29 is better. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Marte and Howry would be other guys in that category. Then you have those one-year wonders like Hermanson first half of 2005 and Jason Grilli last year with the Pirates. But that success almost never continues for a veteran who rises to closer in the 2nd half of his career after being a reliever or mostly a starter...unless his name is Eckersley. Smoltz and Perkins off the top of my head. -
Jose Quintana pitched 7 brilliant innings limiting the now very blue Jays to 3 hits , 2 walks ,while K' ing 7. Recently recalled Eric Surkamp pitched a 1-2-3 8th and Jake Petricka pitched the 9th in a non-save situation to lock it down giving up only an infield single in the 4-0 White Sox victory. Jose Abreu's single put the Sox on the board in the 3rd with his 64th RBI of the year driving in Gordon Beckham. Ruben Sierra went 2-4 against his old club hitting a solo HR that extended the Sox lead to 2-0 in the 4th inning off former beloved Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle who was tagged with the hard luck loss. Tyler Flowers added a 2 run single off another former Sox pitcher, Sergio Santos ,in the 9th for a little breathing room that this time wasn't needed. Quintana's record improved to 5-7 and lowered his ERA to 3.44.

Did it cross your mind Tmar might've been being a wee bit facetious ?

Nice win, feels like forever where anyone but Abreu was the hitting star of a game .
