  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Move Scott Podesednik to CF.
  2. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) stars of the future Most liberal use of the phrase... EVER!
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) I'd honestly like to see Casey Rogowski get an opportunity if Paulie leaves (free agency) but im not sure if he will because Ozzie wouldn't give Jerry Owens a chance because he plays in Double A. Worst excuse ive ever heard. Chris Young or Brian Anderson should be taking Jermaines spot. I think. Pitching: I'd give McCarthy a spot in the rotation for next year and release/trade El Duque. Release/trade Vizcaino he hasn't been that bad i just expected a lot more from him and give Felix Diaz a shot at the bullpen last year he was decent for A ROOKIE but ozzie gave up on him after one start. ONE START and he only had one bad inning in his debut giving up a couple home runs. If Anderson replaces anyone, it'll be Rowand.
  4. I voted for Young because the question is based on potential. Based on that, Young could be a 40-40 guy in the majors who pushes .400 OBP... Those guys are rare and usually end up in a small town in rural NY... McCarthy's margin-for-error to become "great" is smaller. I think he could be a Buehrle-type pitcher in that he throws a lot of innings, is a 15-19 game winner, and is just short of being a true Ace. So, a Very good #2 pitcher, basically. That's pretty good, but not really HOF-worthy unless he does it for 20 years. Gio and Valido still have question marks and a long ways to go, IMO. Sweeney has not shown the eye-popping power that would lead you to think he had a high ceiling, but everything else he does well. Has potential, but still behind Young IMO.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) How did Texas get him? Rupe, Webster, and Franky Fransisco were traded to Texas for Crazy Carl in the first go-round...
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Several points in response...first, there are many steroids people can take which don't make people inflate like Barry Bonds...in fact, Rafael Palmeiro may very well have chosen "Winstrol" entirely because it's not supposed to make your body explode in a way that can be seen. I didn't say I'm going to write the kid off...but I'm going to view him with some skepticism until he shows me that he can stay clean for several years...He says that he did something from a supplement, but that's exactly what everyone says. So when the policy was implemented (BTW, minor league testing has been done for a couple years before this year) and people are taking things and been tested previously, you don't think there is going to be a glut of them who keep taking them and turn out testing positive because of a false sense of security? It was a careless mistake in not double-checking EVERYTHING, but we're talking about a 20 year-old kid here. Then again, I guess we should look at things in the dark cloud world where you are, where every action or reaction is due to some lie or alterior motive. Wow. I'd hate to live life with that outlook, but, whatever makes you happy...
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) Seriously...if this kid keeps coming up, I'm always going to turn a questionning eye towards him. I don't care how he made "The List" or what he learned from it...he broke the rules, and probably the law in some fashion. I'm going to withhold judgement on him until a.) he's in the big leagues, b.) there's a stronger testing program in the big leagues, and c.) his performance doesn't fall off as he mysteriously loses 10 pounds. As far as I'm concerned, suspicion from me should be part of the worry for these guys in getting caught. He's got a looooonnnnng way to go before he fully earns my trust. Where is that falling poo icon? Wow. The kid is no more than 190 pounds soaking wet wearing a parka. He made his mistake and payed for it. Now, guys who are multiple offenders deserve your ire and skepticism, but to think there wouldn't be a plethora of guys getting caught by taking things they thought were safe when implementing this new policy was niave and infantile. It's the nature of starting a new system and the lack of education they've had towards it. But hey, if you want to write a kid off who is built like Valido is and stole 52 bases while barely being caught because he took something from GNC he thought was legal, have at it. Keep living in your bunker.
  8. QUOTE(OilCan @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) Yep, unfortunately he made "The List"........whatever he did, I'm sure he learned his lesson and has moved forward. I'll say this though, that might have been a small motivator in wanting to prove himself this year, and boy, has he done so. IMO, he's back on the radar screen. You're talking about Valido? When the hell did he ever drop off the radar?
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) See my post in the Gio thread. He's got shoulder problems. Let's not start a riot here. He missed his turn in the rotation with soreness/discomfort. Nothing is diagnosed and nothing major has been found, it's a precautionary measure. Let's get it right instead of using verbiage that leads to misunderstandings and exaggeration.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Didn't see it posted, a little disturbing; Yep. 3rd time this year he's missed time with various pulls, strains or discomfort. This is the kind of worry about a smaller guy with a high-effort delivery. Hopefully nothing significant.
  11. QUOTE(OilCan @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) To the experts........ Compare Juan Uribe's defense to a projected upside of Robert Valido's....what's the comparison? Valido is much quicker laterally and looks a lot more smooth. Uribe has a better arm and Valido doesn't always show his off like Uribe seems to do. Valido has a 3/4 arm slot but is quick and get's the ball off very fast. Again, he makes things look much easier than Juan (partly because Juan is so stocky and built that he appears "lumbering"... Valido = greater range and athleticism and more capable of getting a good throw off on the move laterally. Superb instincts, always makes the "right" play... Uribe = stronger arm. Takes more chances, not always the "smart" play.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) May the prayers and thoughts of everyone here at the site be with you. Ditto what others have said. My condolences ...
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) So does that translate into a solid 30 plus SB guy in the majors? Well, I'd like to see how he does in AA. Most of the catchers in the lower levels are about as proficient at stopping good baserunners as a piece of paper is at stopping a bullet. Oh, and don't forget about the high number of pitchers without MLB-quality moves to keep guys close...
  14. QUOTE(alexgtp @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) doenst he also have 44 stolen bases? 46 steals with only 5 CS... Not "great" speed, but great smarts and instincts...
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) 1) Chris Young got screwed. 2) I didn't notice, but Rogo has slumped at the end of the year. He was over .300 for the entire year. Rogo at one time was around .330 near the end of July, IIRC. Had a rough August.
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) http://www.futuresox.com/modules.php?name=...article&sid=201 Young not being on the team is silly. Those first 2 months cost him a .290 30-30 year. He's been the best player in that league for the last 3 months.
  17. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...=g_box&did=milb I'm keeping an eye on Tim Day... More encouraged by the Cortes outing.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) OF course I was wrong on Todd Deininger. Under statement of the century... LOL! YEP, part of the business of prospect projections. Hey, I said Crede was going to be a .280 major league hitter with 30 HR's... I think he could hit 30 HR's easily IF ONLY he could make contact enough to hit .280... LOL! Borch and Rauch, we won't even go there (although Rauch had his injury issues)
  19. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Get your ass down here randar....... we'll catch a game. I got the tickets, you're buying the beers!! Man, I'm tellin ya. Wish I could. Been trying to shoe-horn in a trip all summer and have just been swamped. The 2 chances I though I had a chance to breakaway I got sent out of the country on short-notice for business... Sheeesh, The stars aligned against me this summer. Only got to see Kanny and W-S on the road this year and never made it down to North Carolina for the requisite baseball junkie tour. Maybe playoffs, but I can't commit to anything, LOL!
  20. To consolidate the box scores: Charlotte lost 9-7. 2 hits each for Harris, Burke, Toca and Brown. Brown and Burke with dingers. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...noraaa_chraaa_1 Birmingham won 3-1 in a critical game in their playoff race. Haigwood was outstanding as was previously mentioned. Young and Lopez with 2 hits each. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...biraax_jaxaax_1 Winston-Salem won 6-0. Liotta outstanding. Collaro with the only multi-hit game with 3. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...=g_box&did=milb Kanny lost 9-3. Richard and Brooks both were hit hard. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...kanafx_gboafx_1 Bristol wins 5-0. Winn with a very nice start. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...kptrok_brirok_1 Great Falls lost 9-8 in 13 innings. Allen and Hernandez with 2 hits each. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...grfrok_bilrok_1
  21. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:42 AM) Or even Ray Liotta, sube 2 ERA on the season now and outstanding this last month or two. As someone else said, his peripherals are pretty underwhelming. K:BB and K:IP are pretty mediocre.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) Randar was right about B-Mac though, he's been great in Charlotte since he worked out his issues. But you can't help be impressed with what Haigwood's done, since being promoted to B-Ham, his numbers have been wonderful. I REALLY wish I had time to get down and see one of his last starts. As I've said before, I was underwhelmed last year in Kanny and would really like to see how he looks now because it's tough to argue with his success. In 1-2 months he may have vaulted from somewhere around 20 on the prospect list to the bottom of the top 10. That's pretty darn impressive.
  23. QUOTE(DBAHO @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) Very well could be, he's been the minor league 2nd half best player without a doubt. I dunno. BMac has been lights-out in AAA the last 1-2 months now...
  24. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) thats commonly how knuckleballers are, if its knuckling look out, if not it could be a rough outing....... anyone else find it funny that the charlotte lineup suddenly looks good even compared to our current lineup? pods, harris, brown, toca, gload borchard, burke, cassanova and reyes isnt all that much worse than when ozzies lineups look like when he plays teh bench guys on a side note only another 396 more ABs til ryan sweeneys next homer Yep, knucklers are almost always inconsistent because more variable play into their success. 1) They have less margin for error 2) The wind affects them quite a bit 3) Much like a guy with a huge-breaking curve, the strike zone is even more variable based on the umpire than for a regular pitcher.
  25. QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) Hogs won 6-3. Whisler with 7 shutout innings. Is Wes the American version of Jose Contreras? Amazing stuff and no trust in it? One amazing start, 2 terrible ones... repeat...
