QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Hold your horses there chief. That is one thing that is NOT going to happen. You just dont trade your yong Cf'er who is just coming into his own to bring up a AA player. Young, owens, sweeney, all have at least 1 more year in the minors ahead of them. And Anderson? Rowand has had a .750 OPS and has played very good defense, but Anderson is NOT a defensive downgrade... Rowand can get you help and he's just starting to make some coin... Meanwhile, they have 4 young OF'ers within a year of making the majors. What would you do? Not to hijack this thread, but .750 OPS is utterly replaceable. BTW, you might want to stop yourself from making "absolute" posts about something you don't control. There is no "ABSOLUTE" that says Rowand can't or won't be traded, so settle down.

QUOTE(bigredrudy @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) I would like to get a complete scouting report on Chris Young. It is obvious that he has speed and power. But I have heard bad things about his arm. Is his arm like pod's or damon 's or Pierre's. He does strikeout quite a bit Does he have bad strike zone judgement. Is he improving in the second half? Is he a good fielder? I would like to hear from someone who has seen him play From the Adopt-a-Prospect board, Chris Young's #'s by month: QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) BB K HR AVG OBP SLG April 8 31 4 .244 .310 .478 May 15 32 5 .271 .373 .533 June 17 19 8 .247 .369 .581 July* 5 13 1 .311 .382 .489 August 15 19 6 ========================================= Total 60 114 24 .282 .380 .566 This is a couple days old I think, but it shows his improvement over the first 2 months. He was plagued by an injury for much of July, thus the asterick. Young's arm has improved over time. He's a kid who is very coachable and recognizes his strengths and weaknesses and he has done a LOT of work to improve his arm to at least be average. Better than Pods, yes, but not up with guys with Plus-arms like Sweeney, Anderson, Borch, Rowand... He's got PLUS tools in 4 of the 5 categories and has an average arm in the 5th. As of today, I'm official not writing him off from making the 2006 team out of the gate. I would not be surprised to see them trade Rowand. with at least one of Young/Anderson opening in CF in 2006.

If he'd posted 20 K months in the first 2 months of the year, I doubt anyone would be concerned about the K's. Pretty damn impressive considering the jump from Kanny.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) Neither number is a huge improvement, but it tells me he is at least headed in the right direction, but holding his walk rate and cutting down his strikeouts, while maintaining or exceeding production levels. I'm only going off observational opinion, but hasn't Young's K/AB rate really been steadily improving over the course of the season?

QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) Hey I have been recently relocated to Charlotte and I would like to catch a game. I do not have a lot of free time on my hand so I would like to see Mc Carthy pitch is possible and I was knowing if any of you gentlemen would know the Charlotte rotation. I do know they have a ton of games this weekend but unsure which one he would take the mound on. I have looked all over and their website does not give much information.... I tried to count days and it seems they sometimes go a 6 man roation put I couldnt be sure with adkins up. First time poster long time reader and love the information and work your guys have done on the site. Main Phone Line - 704.357.8071 Ticket Hotline - 704.36.HOMER South Carolina Line - 803.548.8050

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Don't worry Rex, I did the same thing first time Heads mentioned his name a few weeks back. He got promoted a while back IIRC and basically hasn't pitched. I could be dead wrong though, but I recall Charlotte promoting someone a few levels who wasn't all that grand (ie organizational type move). Edit: Got off my ass to look up his stats, I got curious. He was pitching out of the pen in Kanny most of the year and than got promoted to Charlotte. Wasn't too bad in Kanny (is 25 or so). Had a 3.70 ERA out of the pen in 58 innings and was up in Charlotte in June for a short period as well prior to today's start. Played his college ball at Vandy and went undrafted and signed with the Sox in 03. The 2005 version of Adam Larson.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) True. Considering that he came from JC and showed success in a wooden bat league I'm surprised they are playing it so slowly with him. He could be a nice addition for Kanny's OF down the stretch if the Sox decide to promote him. He's only 1 year out of HS, though. He was a freshman this past spring.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Randar I'd like to know your thoughts on Tyler Lumsden actually. I know when the Sox selected him, they thought they were getting the best college lefty at the time. We've seen a guy like J.P Howell who went something like 3 picks before him IIRC, already make the majors (albeit with the KC Royals). I still rate Lumsden quite highly and I think once he gets over his arm problems and comes back from surgery, he could still move quickly through the system. Was extremely impressed with Lumsden. I think his curve is on-par with Gio and he throws much harder than Gio. We'll have to see if he can get healthy, but he is, IMO, the most talented lefty in the system. Last season I saw him hitting 95 and dropping an absolutely unhittable curve on guys. This was still as he was getting over his dead-arm period. I didn't see enough of him to have a great feel for control or pitching instincts, though. Again, I like Gio a lot, but IMO, Lumsden and Whisler are the best LH'd arms in the system followed by Gio and Haigwood. Pitching instincts, mechanical consistency and control are on Haig and Gio's side, but pure talent and stuff has to go to the first 2, IMO.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 05:48 AM) Haigwood's having a very B-Mac like 2004, where he's jumped to a higher level and just gotten better. In that respect, true (although he's only jumped 1 level and has had nowhere near the success and numbers BMac had in his 3-level journey last year)... I think we should be careful in making these kinds of comparisons...
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 04:07 AM) Haigwood has been very, very impressive this season. Any chance he can supplant B-MAC as our top pitching prospect this year if he keeps dominating? No, his stuff doesn't rate on par with guys like Gio, Broadway, or even Whisler and Lumsden (if they can get or stay healthy)... That said, he has perhaps the best pitching mentality in the system outside of BMac and perhaps Broadway.
-
QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) But his injury was not arm related, which is good, it was a knee injury that kept him out that entire year. Yep, ACL injury on his plant leg...(right knee)
-
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Haigwood doesn't project as a backend guy because his stuff is so good. He was a two pitch pitcher out of High School (fastball, curveball) and has been introduced to the change as he entered the Sox system. Not sure how well he throws it. His big key is getting his curveball, which is superb, over for a strike. He seems to be doing that just fine now, and BA says he can hit the mid 90s when he wants to, which I believe. When I interviewed him last year he said he was feeling 100% and back from his injury. I guess his AA performance would affirm that: 40.1 IP 20 H 19 BB 43 SO 4 ER Haig has and never will hit mid-90's... BA also said Brian Miller had the best RH power arm in the system...

Delmon Young on 2 Sox prospects/players from yesterday's Daily Dish at BA: On White Sox righthander Bobby Jenks: "I don't want to face him anymore either. He throws too hard with that curveball around 87 (mph). And he's always accurate." On White Sox righthander Sean Tracey: "He's a competitor. He made me look like a fool the last time I faced him. He kept mixing it up in and out, changing speeds and it looked exactly the same out of his hand every time."

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) Best reliever Edwin Almonte player traded for Roberto Alomar Too bad he's been there for 4 years or whatever... Fringe major-leaguer (AAAA) like Joe Valentine and Royce Ring.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) As of today, where would you rank the White Sox system as a whole? Coming into this year, BA had the Sox system ranked 12th. Do you think we've moved up since then? With the emergence of Chris Young, the great season Valido has had, along with adding Owens and Rogo doing it at AA, How could we move down? Nobody but Jenks has moved up to Chicago full-time... -
Great Falls lost 3-2 in 11 innings http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...helrok_grfrok_1 Clayton Richard with another pretty good outing...

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) According to Carolina League Managers, Valido is the best: -baserunner (fundamentals. not speed) -defensive shortstop -most exciting player If there are 5 better baserunners at the AA level or lower, I haven't seen them... It's absolutely amazing his SB/CS rate and ratio given his speed. Good-not-great, but those are Beltran-like numbers...

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) The only reason Young should stay in AA would be because of an injury. I see no reason why he should be repeating. Why should he go to Charlotte? Why wouldn't the organization like to see what he could do coming back to AA if only for a couple months? Frankly, I would like to see if he can be a .280-.300 hitter consistently in AA before even thinking about moving him to Charlotte or Chicago. JMO. Also, do people still really like Adam Ricks as a prospect? Let me know when his slugging % tops .300...

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Is there any chance that Nanita gets moved up this year to Birmy? He's doing well, but is extremely old for high-A. The most encouraging thing is his 38 BBs/36 Ks, but again -- he's 24. I realize the OF at AA is stacked, but hopefully he'll get his shot -- .281/.377/.469 is a pretty good line. He's been pretty solid the last month or 2. Started off really slow...
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) I'm interested to see Young's power numbers next year when he's at Charlotte Unless he comes back from injury soon, they might as well start him in BHam next year and see what he can do repeating a level after skipping W-S... Charlotte is all well and good, but it has a tendency to make guys play away from their strengths, IMO...

QUOTE(T R U @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) They act like a .265 average is pathetic.. That doesnt bother me at all if hes gonna hit HR's, Doubles, Play good defense, and steal some bases... And take walks at a high rate.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Link That he’ll never hit for average will prevent him from becoming a star. Interesting that a service that's never seen the kid play can say this about someone who has gone from getting his first taste of Low-A ball to AA stud in 16 months "will never hit for average"... If that means he won't ever hit .320, I'd probably agree, but the premise that Rotoworld is ranking prospects in the first place is utterly absurd.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 06:56 AM) Valido is a very good prospect but not our #2 prospect... I think he should be in the top 10 though. Ditto. I'd have him between 7-9 I think...
