  1. Las Vegas just rocked Chicago today. Too bad, go and get em tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 05:27 PM) 78 today...37 on the front and another back 9 choke...double/bogey coming in on 17/18...the front 9 is the best I've ever struck the ball with my irons...hit 8 of 9 greens...37 with 18 freaking putts! Had a number of 10-15 footers for birdie and just couldn't get one to drop... Back 9, my iron game deserted me and I was just trying to hold on for dear life...2 putted from 65 feet to save pars and did make one birdie on a par 3...otherwise it was pretty dreadful. Oh well...improvement...I should be pleased with that. Ouch, that's no fun.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 08:04 AM) C'mon...you can do it in one day...wimps Definitely possible if we decide we'd rather have more time out in Colorado
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) Old ass man. I'm a little younger than you(turn 27 next week) but besides number 3 which I say myself a lot, I don't really hear/see those phrases too much. Same
  5. A friend and I are strongly considering taking a road trip to Colorado last week of September/first week of October (probably like leave on a Sunday, be back in Minnesota the following Sunday). I've never planned a road trip like this before. It's about 13-13.5 hours from Minneapolis to Denver, so I figure we'll split up the drive into two days each way. Neither of us have ever been to Colorado before. Not sure if we want to just stick in Denver for five days and do day trips from there, or travel somewhere else. Open to ideas. So, to sum up: 1. Any general road trip planning advice? 2. Any tips for things to do in Colorado? I think we'd do the general vacation experience. Ie, maybe go to some breweries or something one day, do a day trip for some hiking (not crazy strenuous or anything, the kinda thing where we could drive out from Denver in the morning and come back at night).
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) But also remember, those of us that pulled for the team to lose back then were not real fans. You can be happy with the result without pulling for them to lose.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) What he say? "I understand my old buddy Matt Abbatacola just ripped me apart yesterday, calling me names, calling me sexist. Friend of mine -- I didn't know Matt was still in town. I thought he was either fired, or quit and went some place else. I think he's just mad cause I don't use his name anymore. [About a minute later, sarcastically] Yeah, that really hurts, almost broke my heart. But I guess I'll have to live with it."
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) OK, this doesn't sound terribly believable to me, but I'm hearing from several people that this involves a female tutor writing papers for many students, only a few of whom are football players, in exchange for sex. Wait -- the students/football players were having sex with the tutor AND she was writing their papers? This seems backwards....
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 06:58 AM) http://news.yahoo.com/robin-williams-death...-225459533.html Media under fire (Limbaugh, as usual...NY newspapers, Fox and Friends) for exploiting Robin Williams media coverage. That Rush stuff is awful even for him. Also seems like a bigger stretch than usual.
  10. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) Next year it may be 50/70. Oh, they've said it's a possible change?
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) RIP They come in 3's, right? I'll go with Lohan. Well there was the guy from Game of Thrones.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 01:44 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-180042555.html More Bryce being Bryce. He makes Puig look like a model citizen sometimes. This isn't a big deal at all. Not even remotely close to some of the idiot stuff Puig has done.
  13. I agree that GWB would make an excellent commish. Can't see it happening, though.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Wendelken with a great outing. 7IP 5H 1ER 1BB 5Ks Peavy trade looking better and better. Won't be able to tell for sure for a long time, but the early returns are good.
  15. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) why not? 99.9% of little leaguers arent half as good as these kids playing in the LLWS. Sure there might be a couple of stud players in a little league but for the most part they are average players and horrible players regardless of the age. I'm sure there are plenty of guys on this site who were good enough to be on their all-star team at age 10 but werent allowed to because of being too young. It's not about LLWS players vs. average players, it's about average 11-12 year old players vs. average 9-10 year old players. 11 and 12 year olds are a little bigger, a little stronger, and the pitching is substantially better. They should be on a bigger field than the 9 and 10 year olds.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) I shot 79 today...best scoring round in many years...the sad thing is I parred the front 9 and then limped home with a 43 on the back... There are a lot of nice courses in Vegas, aren't there?
  17. Rory is just on another level right now. On 10, after Fowler makes a nice birdie putt to move 3 ahead of Rory? He sees it and just says "Ok, how about 10 feet from the pin from 280 out? And then I knock it in for eagle?" Just nuts.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) The game isn't set up for the best. It is set up for the 99.9% of the rest. I disagree with you there, too. I played Bronco baseball, not little league. It was a 48' mound and 70' bases for all 11 and 12 year olds. Way better than 46' and 60'. 11 and 12 year olds should not be playing on the same size field as 9 and 10 year olds.
  19. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) I'll tune in here and there, mainly to watch some brutal umpiring. They did move the fences back not that long ago, but could probably do so again. I also think the bases and mound should open up as well. The bases and mound are what bother me most. These kids are way too good to be playing with 60' bases and a 46' mound. It's the bases that get me the most.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 07:44 AM) The one thing I noticed is the other car(s) seemed to really slow down once the guy was out of his car and on foot on the track. Then you see this other car come up much more quickly, and you can hear him rev his engine right as he passes him. I don't believe he "intentionally" hit him; I do believe he acted recklessly in trying to frighten him. They both used very poor judgment (too much testosterone) and now a kid is dead for it. Right now, this definitely seems like the best guess at what happened. EDIT: Even if that's true, recklessness is still a felony murder in most jurisdictions. It's not manslaughter.

    QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) Has anyone been watching Tyrant? I'm really enjoying that show Yeah, it's pretty solid. Seems like it's going to turn into Barry actually running. Jamal won't like that.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) He's the pre game instructor Didn't know that, pretty cool. I always liked him for some reason. Probably because I followed the 2004 draft more than any other draft so I was attached to more of those guys.
  23. Hawk mentioned Adam Ricks was out in the bullpen. He stopped playing after 2011. Is he some sort of bullpen coach/general instructor now?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) I see Arias is going to represent herself at her sentencing trial which is a full fledged trial. Do judges look down on this bulls***? Is she going to embarrass herself and pretty much assure herself of the death penalty by doing this? I'd think judges would not like a person who knows not what she is doing be her own attorney. Yeah, judges aren't a big fan of people representing themselves. There's two main reasons: They tend to do a s***ty job for themselves, and litigation functions better when it has attorneys involved instead of people who don't know what they're doing. This quickly leads into discussing the cost of legal services/access to justice, but that's a separate conversation.
