I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty good and really funny. I don't agree with the "Best Marvel movie yet" praise, though. I liked Avengers and Captain America: Winter Soldier better.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) I've been watching it. Still not sure what I think. Interested, but not looked. Waiting for a couple of story lines to break. My thoughts exactly.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) Wtf does indubitably mean? From the context I'm going with "undoubtedly" but in general I thought it was academia slang for "Totally, dudes!"

I do it the way the OP's fiancee does it. I do admit that his way sounds cleaner though...I just think the way I do it is good enough.

Yesterday was day 1 of the Bar Exam. It was fine, but afterwards the "biggest debacle in bar exam history" happened.
-
Not out west, but in terms of public courses, Wilmette looks amazing after the renovation. Back nine is especially gorgeous.

I really wanted to go to the game tonight to see Sale pitch. Screw you, bar exam.

Hope everything is ok. What's the plan for whenever Reinsdorf steps down/is no longer with us? Passes to Einhorn/rest of the ownership group? Passes to Michael Reinsdorf?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Just like Abreu, Avi, Hawkins, Davidson, and Viciedo, right? Outside of Abreu, I don't think any of those guys were expected to have the Baez/Bryant/Schwarber power tool. More like 30-HR range at peak.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Let's not get too amped up over Schwarber yet. Incredibly small sample size (which, frankly, his A- and A trips were too), but he's been far less impressive at A+. I will readily admit I overhype Schwarber solely because I watched him at Indiana. The kid can flat out hit. But you're right, it's still a small sample size and it's a hell of a long way to go.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) My wife stole my Sox jersey and had our wedding photographer take saucy pictures of her in it Lucky man!

Although the chances of this actually happening are incredibly tiny, it is nuts to think the Cubs could have 3 40+ HR guys in the middle of their lineup in Bryant, Schwarber and Baez. That's not even counting Rizzo. Baez looks like the most likely to bust. He seems an all-or-nothing type -- either he's an 8-time all star or he doesn't even stick in the majors.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) If the Bulls forced the Cavs to unload Wiggins, I think thats a pretty good win. Yep. Like people were saying yesterday, this looks like it could be a win-win. Either Bulls get Love, or Cavs lose Wiggins.

Report into the Ohio State Marching Band hazing released. Those are some fantastic nicknames they came up with. My favorites were "Taint Brush" and "Sugar Bush." -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) Arch is a no based on the wife and I both being acrophobic. A-B brewery tour is a likely stop. In Forest Park, we may check out the history museum. We do enough zoos with the kids, and my wife it not into art museums. Wife also won't do baseball games unless it's the Sox. I can't even get her to go see the Sox AAA team play. Will look into the Delmar Loop. That sounds interesting. We are actually staying in St. Charles less than a mile from Ameristar, so we probably end up in their poker room at least once. The history museum in Forest Park is pretty neat. A-B brewery tour is fun too. Delmar in U-City is awesome on summer weekend nights. Street music, all that stuff. Some great bbq in little holes-in-the-wall just off the main drag, too. At least there was, I haven't been there in nearly a decade.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) I have no clue. I try and ignore the ignorant. Yep, turns out he did "The Super Bowl-winning coach "embraced" the stance of an Indiana organization supporting an amendment to the state constitution that would ban gay marriages, and he added Tuesday night at a gathering of the Indiana Family Institute that he's "on the Lord's side." "We're not trying to downgrade anyone else," said Dungy, coach of the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. "But we're trying to promote the family — family values the Lord's way," Dungy said. "IFI is saying what the Lord says. You can take that and make your decision on which way you want to be."" -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) I don't think he is. I think I know what he meant. It's ignorant coming from a black man who was probably in a similar position before though. IIRC, he supported the effort to ban same-sex marriage in Indiana. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) I read the book, so I already know. Once I start a show, I don't want to to read the book until I'm done. Or vice versa. Like to keep it to one medium at a time.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) I dropped it halfway through the 2nd episode. I couldn't handle the boredom. I'm still watching, but more out of curiosity for where it's going with the plot. I have zero idea. Could turn into some scifi thing, who knows.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) It's gangs. There was a gang shooting today in Skokie. Yeah, Skokie. Whoa, really? Where in Skokie? I grew up near there. I was reading a story about a murder here in April or May. I thought it would say it was the 50th murder in Minneapolis for the year or something. Nope. It was the 5th. Been a few more triple homicides this summer, unfortunately.

We weren't the only ones talking about Tony Dungy last night
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) But dungy didn't say he wouldn't draft him because he was going to do an I'll-advised reality show that is obvious personal distraction. It was more generally his being gay that was an unacceptable distraction for him. Plenty of players have all sorts of personal distractions, but only "being gay" is a bridge too far for some. Perhaps you should define your definition of "distraction." Is it just other players being uncomfortable in the locker room? Media presence? Any distraction that Sam doesn't personally or intentionally create?
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) But if you're the owner of a team you better not think about that non-football stuff or you're a bigot and a coward! Well this is where it gets murky. Like I said earlier, the team should just treat him for what he is -- another player trying to make the team. But by the same token, a gay player should act the same way -- as another player trying to make the team. That's why I didn't like the reality show and stuff.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Yes it is. If an owner came out and said they didn't want to deal with Tebow's media circus, on top of not thinking he's a good player, would your immediate conclusion be that the owner is anti-Christian? I suspect you might disagree with this, but my guess is that many more people are anti-gay than anti-Christian. It's just a much less likely conclusion in general.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) why is he an asshole, because you dont like what he stands for? I dont remember Tebow whoring himself of a reality tv show. I dont remember Tebow saying at his combine that he wanted to only be known as a football player and then started up a website to take advantage of his sudden fame. I dont remember Tebow saying no cameras in his house for draft day and then all of a sudden having cameras in there for a staged reaction shot. If anyone chose to be something it was Sam and he chose to be a distraction since he left the combine. He's an asshole because that's how he comes across in every medium I've ever seen. Maybe he's a great guy in person, who knows. And I'm not a fan of Sam's decision to do the reality show and all that jazz. That's making it about more than football.
