How important is this 2 game series with CLE
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 18, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) I'm sure they will split the series, giving us nothing but questions and the vaguest of hope. I am optimistic -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 18, 2011 -> 04:30 AM) well every team needs an All-Star and I don't think anyone else really deserves a selection.... Santos and Konerko with Quentin an outside consideration

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) I didn't finish reading all of the posts, but it should be noted that replacing Pierre with Viciedo would require another move. That's because Ozzie insists on a stolen base threat at the top of the lineup. Lillibridge is the only even slightly viable candidate for that spot. Therefore, you would have to find a place for Lillibridge in the infield, with Viciedo, Rios and Quentin in the outfield. As others have stated, McPherson is simply a left handed power bat off the bench, taking Teahen's place. Viciedo is right handed, and needs to play every day. There is nothing wrong with this move. The Pierre issue still has to be addressed, but this move is an entirely different matter. Is there anybody else around who the Sox could acquire to play either 3RD or 2ND and fill the lead off spot? Beckham could always go back to 3RD. I still like Lillibridge but it appears that Ozzie doesn't want to go that way. Unless we can find a prototypical leadoff hitter, Viciedo will not replace J. P. in LF. What a shame. McPherson is filling a role most likely temporarily. Viciedo needs to stay at Charlotte and learn to play the OF. He will be up with the Sox but I am not sure when, but right now he is not the option. McPherson contributed on Tuesday night to a Sox win and made me a happy camper. Morel looked good defensively as he usually does and that three-run homer was just great. I prefer not to think about moving players back and forth and all around to different or new positions. Stability would seem to dictate leaving Beckham at 2B and Ramirez at SS. Third is in flus but I think it is still Morel and Teahan

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) No, it means that you're showing nothing but blind hope. Not optimism, but hope. No. I am optimistic and truly believe this team can still do it. If it doesn't well then there is always next year - now that is hope.

Sox vs. Rangers, 05/17, 7:10, CSN+

This might be a good time for Danks to win his first game. I ain't saying-I am just sayin -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) f*** man, whatever. There is obviously not going to be any meaningful discussion here. You keep right on waiting patiently and making no necessary changes. Does meaningful discussion mean that I have to see it your way? I sure understand your point and after some losses feel a lot like you do, but my head tells me that it's a long haul to the end and this team can start putting it back together. We play alot of baseball within our own division

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) You can't hold onto a team that's 10 games below .500 in June on the hopes that it'll recover after the AS break...not with the level of money that's been committed here. I see your point, but my point is that time will tell
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) It is? That's my thought on the matter.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) You would hope that he has that sort of integrity, but even that would leave the team in a bad position. If a person as outgoing and vocal as KW can't get Ozzie out, there is no chance for a guy like Hahn or whoever the replacement is. Ozzie would run this ship from top to bottom. Ozzie Guillen is not the problem here
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:36 PM) Saying that a couple weeks ago might have been more accurate. The 6-3 road trip bought you a reprieve...but if this team can't figure out how to play at the Cell they might very well undo that the next couple days. My deadline was "Memorial day". We're 8 games below .500 right now. 8 games below .500 on Memorial day is just about "Blow it all up" time. We have seen a lot of things (good and bad) happen after the all-star break. I think we still can turn this ship around
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) I think I've said this before as well...but if that's true, then KW needs to hand in his resignation letter. Do you really think Ozzie Guillen is the problem? Or are you just making an observation/comment about the power a GM should have?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) First of all, who the f*** cares of we lose McPherson? As has already been said, Juan Pierre has been dreadful in the outfield. But we shouldn't make that move because Viciedo could potentially be worse while also potentially giving us far greater offensive production. Why do you say that we don't have to call up Viciedo yet? Because we seem to be playing pretty terribly and we could use any amount of help that we can get. But you know what we should do? Just stick with the status quo for another month or two. That ought to get us right out of the hole that we've dug ourselves. We just might be digging ourselves out of the hole in a month or two or three. There is stil plenty of baseball left and we have talent. They just need to put things together. The point is there is time. You are in it for the long haul not looking to change your whole team every week because they lose some games.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Then expect extra screaming the next time Pierre makes one. That's a given, but I am not giving up on Pierre. It's a bit too early to say JP is done. however, he needs to show us he still has gas left in the tank
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 17, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) Teahen doesn't play third, either anymore. It boils down to the fact that Dayan is eons better than Juan Pierre. And we have to probably the fourth best hitter in the entire organization in AAA for no reason. Teahan does play third and when he is back and Morel is still not hitting I would expect to see more Mark Teahan at 3B
-
Viciedo is learning to play the OF. This is a fill in measure until Teahan is back healthy. Question is when we send McPherson down do we lose him like we did Gray? We do not need to call up Viciedo yet and if we did and he made some boo-boos in the OF costing us a game I am sure we would be screaming about that too

Why don't teams steal 2nd every time against us?

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 17, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) I'll be honest and say I hadn't paid a lot of attention to it until last night. It seemed like AJ should have just tossed the ball back to the pitcher. I don't think they were close to catching any of them. Part of it was they weren't being held on too tightly. A couple tosses over to 1st base to "keep him close", that was about it. The other part was that AJ's throws were not very good. It was definitely frustrating to watch. Pitchers who can't keep runners close, can't adjust their timing when in the strtetch and such and have slow deliveries to the plate is the problem. AJP can't do much about that -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 17, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Detroit has to be the favorites right now. I still just don't buy into Cleveland being this legit. I want to believe this too, but don't tell the Tribe they aren't legit. They pasted the Royals 19-1 and I see Grady Sizemore is back on the DL

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 16, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) That's a good question. It is a good question but let's not give them any ideas -
Maybe we should be playing at Chavez Ravie but anyway MLB Network for Saturday afternoon and WGN on Sunday

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) I was told by someone who knows someone that Viciedo was coming up today, and I assumed it was for Teahen, but Viciedo was in Charlotte's line up tonight before it was PPD. Like was mentioned above, you would think if they were going to replace Teahen, they would have had someone in Chicago before the game today, so apparently the Tank is going to be staying in Charlotte. I am sure he will be up sometime this year, Book it and you don't haver to worry about your soucre being burned- I will admit it was me!

I hope we don't end up hearing how Colby Lewis with his over 4.50 ERA was effectively wild and kept out hitters off balance. That is getting old also -
