QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) I lold... But seriously... I only want Dunn if we can have Konerko back too. Is that a possibility? Maybe

Let me express myself here in a friendly but very firm way towards the Sox brass and even to some of my friends here on Soxtalk: If the White Sox fail to offer arbitration to our free agents to be - especially PK and AJP- and they are allowed to just walk and we don't get at least draft choices- then we have a questionable group in the front office making decisions. We have productive folks who want to win and are great teammates and for some reason we lose sight of their contributions. I would like to see them return, however, I know that sometimes that just isn't going to happen. I have said it before and will continue to express my feeling that we don't value our own people enough. For some reason we seem to think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence ( or in someone elses ballpark). Victor Martines for $50M. That's crazy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 12:23 AM) Jim Hendry did exactly what the Tribune Company asked him to do; he packed that ballpark, maximized revenue, and made it possible for that team to be sold to an investor for a good return despite the bankruptcy of the parent company. Point well taken

You need to stay away from injury prone pitchers. We have one that was supposed to be our ace so we don't need two

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) Why do we have to put up with crappy writers filling space when that space/money could be spent on better writers? Because they are convinced they know more than the average fan, the newspaper pays them and we read it. I just chose not to read it and thus do not have to put up with them. We know that the informed baseball fan knows as much if not more than these writers do in most cases
-
You just need to accept the idea that writers are going to write anything that will fill space especially durig the winter. They ae all closet GM's in their minds and what we have to do is just ignore them. But, they will never go away. Have a good laugh and forget about it

Yankees to offer 3 years $45 million to Jeter
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) That A-rod deal is really hurting them in this situation. He is signed til he is 42, so Jeter wants the same thing. Yes. You talk ridiculous contracts and Alex Rodriguez is the poster child. But, that was started by Texas and then reinforced bythe Yankmees, who have done nobody any favors with their out of control spending on FA's -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) There's a reason you get DFA'd by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The reason is you suck more than the rest of their roster which still has plenty of suck to go around. Zach Duke sucks, and really has sucked for about 5 years now. Kind of what I was going to say

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 07:08 AM) The most concerning lefty bat issue for me ATM is the lack of Thome's name being mentioned. I swear to God I'm going to break something if I have to listen to all that versatility drivel all offseason again. Look, Matsui and Damon are not versatile. They don't belong in the field. They're DHs. If you want cheap lefty power go with Thome. He's a great clubhouse guy and you can platoon him without him crying to the media. He's not a Borass guy either. But I'm still really afraid that the Sox would rather give Damon $5M after a down year and let him suck ass in the outfield here and there than pay Thome half that to tear it up in a platoon without hurting us on D. It seems like we always do the dumbest things. The DH slot was invented by the good Lord for a good hitter who can't play the field anymore or hardly anymore. Let's get someone who is a good hitter for that spot and forget this versatility stuff. It didn't work in 2010. I like Thome also but just want someone who will produce as the DH.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) He ranked 5th among MLB outfielders (min. 400 PAs) in on base percentage (.389) and tenth in OPS (.848). The guy is an OBP machine with power. This is the kind of player the Sox need more of: Quality at-bats with actual production. The Nationals' left-fielder has posted a .363 wOBA in each of the last five seasons, an accomplishment that none of Carl Crawford, Jason Bay, Andre Ethier, Corey Hart, Jayson Werth and Vladimir Guerrero can boast. In fact, with all the press Vlad has gotten for his resurgence this season, his 2010 .360 wOBA would represent Willingham's worst season since 2005, when he had 28 PA. After making $4.6million in 2010, he would be due for a raise to $6-7million in his last season of arbitration and would make more sense for the Sox at that level than CQ. He also projects as a Type A free agent after 2011, so there would be quality compensation if he walks. If he walks afterb 2011? He probably will walk if he is any good and sees a gold mine in the free agency market so why would we want to trade for him? I don't like the idea of rental players or one year shots.

Right now we have as much of a chance in signing Maggs as we do Jeter. We are on the even steven with everyone else.

From your Morning Phil in Chicago Tribune today: 2. Are the White Sox willing to trade pitching to create some payroll flexibility? That seems to be the case, with Gavin Floyd's name making the rounds at the GM meetings Wednesday. The Colorado Rockies are among the teams with a reported interest in Floyd. They have two pieces the White Sox are missing -- a young catcher with power in Chris Iannetta and a left-handed-hitting third baseman in Ian Stewart. The Sox would try to interest Colorado in utility man Mark Teahen and reliever Scott Linebrink. I hope we don't start tearing down our strengths. Floyd is a great talent and we look at someone else's youth especially at catcher, which makes you wonder if the Sox have given up on Flowers? I would rather they trade Peavy, who has been a dismal flop with injuries and is iffy in a return. But, of course no one would be willing to take that chance I am sure
-
Once again a fellow we couldn't get before and now is on the down hill slide of his career and is on the Sox radar. Please just say no
-
If they tear down Wrigley where would Cub fans go to the bathroom?
-
KW changing directions? If he decided now to go young we have about 2-4 years before prospects are ready to step up. He traded away some good young talent with this we want to win now mentaility. We owe a lot of money to players who are still struggling, or are injured, and young talent from our organization seem to be contributing in other places.

QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Yes please... I don't even care what they get back for him... Whoaaaaaaaa
-
QUOTE (TomPickle @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) What will this mean for Dewayne Wise's playing time? He was already designated for assignment-refused and is a FA
-
Curtis Granderson? The Sox always seem to be a couple years late. I wouldn't trade a starting pitcher for him at this point in his career
-
You guys underestimate CQ's abilities as a fielder. He has a very good throwing arm and is improving in the field
-
Nothing new. I am sure the Sox would isten to offers on everyone. But, I think it is crazy to trade away our strengths. Starting pitching wins pennants and we have an ace that has been injured for 2 years in a row since coming from San Diego, a couple lefties who struggle at times and a couple iffy issues with the starting pitching and we want to trade Gavin Floyd who can be unhittable at stretches? That's crazy talk

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) His point was, Quentin sucks in RF...there is no way he can play there. completely disagree as I have since posted
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Any near-full-time DH signing would push quentin back into RF, and that sounds like a bad plan. It would be nice to have 9 gold glovers on defense but that ain't gonna happen. CQ is serviceable in RF and we need to stick with our talent. He can do it! Repeat the mantra
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) Matsui signing would probably mean Quentin would be moving on. Matsui would be the DH not RF'er
-
Many here must have signed on to the "fatalistic" viewpoint. This team is not made up of a bunch of also ran losers. I think the Sox should re-sign AJP and the Marlins were interested in him. Now they have Buck, who can't hold a candle to AJ so hopefully he and the Sox are talking.

Marlins dumping their high salaried players? However, they might be getting some good young talent and the Braves get the veteran
