Where are they now? Former Sox players of days past
elrockinMT replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 05:47 AM) If he was smart he would have his own business teaching the knuckleball. Guys like Wilhelm and Wakefield can pitch forever if they develop an effective flutterball. Hoyt was the best adn then there was Wilbur Wood and I think Eddie Fisher also threw the knuckler if I am not mistaken -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 05:09 AM) I did not know that. What was he doing afore his death? I apologize for making a funny about your inquiry. This is sjust asnipet of what I found on a website called The Baseball Biography Project: It had along and interesting bio on Wilhelm who I remember from his days with the Sox. He died in 2002 Hoyt managed in the Atlanta Braves' system for two years, spending 1973 with Greenwood of the Western Carolinas League and 1974 with Kingsport of the Appalachian League. He then spent 22 years coaching in the minors, most of them as a roving instructor for the Yankees. Hoyt and Peggy settled after his playing career in Sarasota, Florida, and they lived there the rest of his life. The Wilhelms raised three children: Patti, Pam and Jim. -

I am having some serious doubts about whether Teahan can play 3B. Is Joe Crede available next year? -

Brent Morel ... if ever we had the need for a rookie hitter to step up now is the time -
Viciedo took a walk lasrt night and that was his first one in the bigs. He gave a bit of the thumbs up to the bench too

We just have to start another 7 to 11 game winning streak tonite -
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:13 AM) All I want to say is that we have won 7 of 8 on this road trip and during that time the Twins have been playing at home where they have a great record...it s gonna be their turn to go on the the road and they are basically a .500 team, we have a legit chance at catching them, they will lose their fair share of games. Last 22 games the Twinks play 10 at home and 12 on the road while the Sox have 16 at home and 6 on the road, that is huge. Let s get the next 2 games in Detroit... BTW, I just have a gut feeling we will sweep Minny at the Cell and this race will come down to the last week, Twins just cannot keep this pace, especially considering they ll have more road games than home games. We won 7 in a row on the road and now lost one to the Tigers and their best pitcher. Minny has the easiest schedule left of the two teams but we can still pull it out. Your right win the next two at Detroit and pound them at Comiskey Cell. Hopefully our offense and soe other guys show up to play tomorrow

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:15 AM) So, what's the news on Freddy? Why'd he only pitch 2 innings? No update but I believe Stone said it was a back problem again

Gordon Beckham's hand... (not) actually broken

Teahan at 3B and not Morel or Viciedo. Teahan needs to hit and field -
This is a bit disconcerting to see two regulars out today hurt. But, this is when the team has to step up
-
On paper this is agood match up for Freddie against the Tigers. He has am awesome winning record. But, no matter we can't cry about a loss when it happens even in this tight race when we have gone 7-0 on the road trip so far and the Twinkies are playing at home But, I have confidence in Freddie

Sox need to adjust the rotation for next week
elrockinMT replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The rotation has been adjusted. 2 lefties negate much of Twins punch -
I'll be there behind the big screen. Garcia going for the Sox

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) There's no defending his managing today. Leaving Buehrle in to face VMart was one of the worst managerial decisions of Ozzie's career. I was bad and you could see Ozzie knew it, but somethimes you take that risk with your ace

It just looks more and more like this thing is going to revolve around those three games versuis the Twinkies in Chicago. You can't ask for a better script

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) thats because Konerko has been knocking in what was on base so when Manny gets up there is nothing.. Manny hitting 3rd with Pierre and Vizquel in front of him would be wonderful especially with Konerko still to come up after.. I hope we at least get to see it a few times Rios has speed to score amd stay out of the DP and sets the table for PK and now maybe Manny

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) the Sox have done a good job the last few games getting a lot of pitches out of the starters in the early innings. Good point
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) Going with the pitch is more like what Beckham does. Hit's outside pitches to right and pulls inside pitches. Manny took an inside pitch to right. Have to get the hands out in front open your hips a bit and let the bat head trail. Much harder to do and Manny's been making it look easy. I wsill not concede you are right, but you might be

Good inning by Jackson hope he now has his groove on

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) That was a line drive? Are you Hawk? If Hawk said it he would have just missed a homer
