QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) I thought Thome might have injured his shoulder on a swing late in the game last night. Hopefully he's ok, but you never like to see him miss a game due to injury. Sore muscle in his leg or something is all. He was on the bench and it was just precautionary -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) This is a HUGE game, even beyond the obvious. Get this one, and you send Minnesota onto that miserable 14 game road trip at least one game out of first, plus a sweep of Seattle is both important and now expected after we won the game we weren't supposed to last night. This is right! -

I see the game is on WGN. I'll be there folks. I watched the first two of this series on the FOXNW which shows the Mariners and loved the wins, but it's always nice to see your own broadcasters. I think this knuckler is going to be bombed as long as we don't swing at all the wild stuff he can throw with that pitch. I think this feller has a hard time controlling his knuckler. -
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 02:55 AM) Glad I didn't listen to certain members and went ahead and wathed the game tonight. Nice job Richard and offense. :gosoxretro: I was there watching with you and glad I did. I never miss one that I can watch anyway, but I was imprssed with Richard's ability to keep the ball down when needed. He got some real important outs there on groundouts

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Some more silver lining: if he is injured from this, people won't be able to blame it on Ozzie for playing him at 1B. It must be Sarah Lee then, or that there Mrs Betty Crocker -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) Like was posted above, Ibanez and Ichiro are left handed. Richard is left handed. I think that's probably the biggest reason why he's getting another shot. Odds are, either one would probably give up several runs tonight. I hope the offense continues on its roll. Problem with that scenario is that they have both shown they can hit lefties pretty good. If Richard isn't right on tonight either or both of those guys can do some damage. I am hoping that the first call up and the three poor starts was a wakeup for Clayton and he has corrected whatever was wrong that can be corrected. No other logical choice at this point anyway so there isn't any reason to grouse about it. I will be watching the game tonight over FOX NW.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) I think it depends on the defensive positioning based on a right handed pull hitter. I personally think that Cabrerra is afraid of any sort of contact around the bag. Watch him on any DP attempt he flies up in the air and out of the way even if hte player is not coming hard. On throws in and steal attempts, he is nowhere near the bag and is reaching to make the tag. He is a tad below average if you ask me. That is an interesting comment to make about a gold glove SS. Buerhle said he and the SS both needed to make a better play. No blame being dished out there.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) Wow somebody loves the 60s, though Fletcher was 80s right? An obscure Sox favorite? I'd say JC Martin to be different, but he wasn't much of a hitter. I'd go back to 77 as well and pick our ss Alan Bannister for that one year. He hit the ball hard as did all those guys. Maybe Jim Spencer off that team. He hit some shots. I'd never pick Jerry Dysbinski (sp) cause of his baserunning blunder that may have cost us a WS title. We'd have won Game Five with Hoyt for sure and probably would have gone all the way. The 60's were great, but Al Lopez and the Sox always seemed to be second. Flethcher was the 80's. I remember a game that I believe we played against the Yankmees and Fletcher had four hits and even though we were trailing he never seemed to give in. He was a scrappy player and I believe we rallied to win gthat game too. JC Martin was the knuckleball catcher supreme. Gerry McNertney is another obscure name and he also caught the knuckler, but I think JC Martin was better. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) I find it funny we're now talking about keeping Uribe around for next year when most of this board wanted him gone for a bag of baseballs not too long ago. I have always been a Juan Uribe supporter, but he is not the replacement for Joe Crede when Jow is healthy. I do hope the Sox consider keeping him on the team in 2009. He is a super defender and brings what you want to the clubhouse. He is a team player. In the same vein I hope Joe Crede is back also. I think after what we saw from Josh Fields that he is not the answer at third. There is not much available next year that I can see as far as availabler thirdbasemen are concerned. Some have suggested KW going after Chone Figgins, but why the LA part with him? Maybe just cause we hope they will?
-
Joe Crede resumes rehab in Charlotte tonight. I hope he is physically healthy and able to play. I think when he returns to the Sox he will make us a better team.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 01:16 AM) I think the point he is trying to make is that Alexei is tall enough for first base and has a ton of range compared to most first basemen. I am not sure the point is necesarily correct though. A simple musing possibly, but not apoint

Got to see the White Sox game on the FOX-NW albeit with Mariners announcers, but a big Sox win and it was fun. Nice to see that offense bail Buerhle out for achange, but he didn't look good exept for a couple innings. Quite a few of those Mariners hits were hit on the ground and the Sox defense was not there to stop em. -

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) Joba Chamberlain seemed to do fine with the pressure. I don't think Stewart is a Joba at this pointy anyway and remember that Chamberlain was started slowly-more bullpen set up guy than anything -

What will make this game interesting is there was some talk of the Sox being interested in acquiring Washburn. I hope we hammer him good, but if he hols the Sox down can you imagine the flood of POSTS crying about how we could have had Washburn? The games with Seattle are being broadcast on FOX NW and I can watch the series on the big screen TV. That is if I can wrestle the remote away from the Old Ball and Chain who wants to watch something called the Olympics. -
