QUOTE(TheOcho @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) Like who? Carlos, Maggs? I doubt if Lee or Magglio we're still on this team we'd have a world series ring from '05. No way to know that of course, but we have let a number of others go or traded then away only to see things fizzle. It's all part of the game, but I think where the Sox have really gone wrong is the fact we continue to take castoffs or injury prone relief pitchers with the idea they can be resurrected in Chicago. The main reason in my opinion is the fact the team ownership wants to do it on the cheap as much as possible.

The White Sox have cut their nose off to spite their face many times in the past so I don't buy what KW is saying. Nothing against Fields as I think he is a very good prospect swinging a real good bat, but his future is in LF and Crede at 3B for this team. There are lots of former Sox this team has let go that are stars and we could have kept them.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) Article on the White Sox site: http://whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?y...sp&c_id=cws Interesting comments, many of them. One, he wants everyone to know he's evaluating players on how good their at bats are. He is preaching OBP. Not a surprise to anyone who's been around him or talked to him at length. He's not getting much info on Crede's back situation. Doesn't mention the Boras camp by name but it's obvious. Fields will stay at 3B. He will not call up players in Sept. just for the sake of calling them up, and those who don't need to be added to the 40 man yet won't be added. Good stuff. I don't belive it when he says he isn't getting much info on Crede's situation. Joe Crede is under contract to the Sox and not Boras so the Sox can and should get any info they want.

Good to see Thome go to left. He has been in aslump and that;'s the way to get back on track. Now how about Konerko?
-
I have been amazed also in the reports from DJ, Hawk and even heard it from Stone about how good Richar is, but I haven't seen anything to be excited about yet. A guy with a batting average under .200 and little power doesn't seem to be our phenom. But, he is young and hopefully will improve. I think though for once I would just wish that Hawk and DJ would shut up and quit their gushing over these youngsters, who haven't been producing.

Why is Steve Stone taking place of DJ right now
elrockinMT replied to DaveBrown85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 03:55 AM) DJ is taking the longest maternity leave ever taken for a male. Wrong. I know of guys that took the full time alotted by the family leave act. I liked Stone on the broadcasts though, or at least the one I watched on WGN last week. -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) with Mackowiak gone, I'm wondering if you would take a gamble on Erstad for one more season as a backup 1B/ 5th Outfielder? As of right now, I figure top priorities have to be Bullpen, 2B, SS and CF. that being said, is there any money left for the utility backup 1B??? I don't think there is anything wrong with considering the idea. Erstad was a gold glove fielder at IB and in CF at one time so defensively he is solid. Problem is would he want a sub role or would the Sox want him in that role. He would be a good lefty bat to spell Konerko from time to time and also play all three OF positions. People are quick to point out his injuries, which are is a concern, but we have had several players injured during the season. You can't condemn Erstad or Pods for this season. Thome was injured for awhile too as were others.
-
If Contreras finds his form again, which is very possible, he may be a better option than the rookie starters we have seen. Before we throw away Jose, who probbaly would benefit from a change of scenery, we better make sure we have viable options. I am disappointed in what we have been seeing from Floyd and Danks. I understand experience is what they need, but how long are we willing to give them, if this team is a contender.
-
Fields in left next year is my hope. He is improving with the bat that's for sure. Floyd has been a disappointment, Good to see Jose getting back on track.
-
J Dye is a very good player and I want him back in a Sox uniform. The OF situation could be interesting next year. I hope we have Fields in LF and Dye in RF and then it will be either a FA signing or Owens in CF. I think Owens needs more seasoning-and I don't mean cooking- to really be a forced in the AL. Owens can play all 3 positions though so Rowand back in Chicago? Maybe!
-
I watched and wailed on WGN. Thome isn't hitting and Floyd ain't pitching. Contreras on the other hand is pitching his way back into the rotation. In my opinion Floyd needs to go down and let's find someone else.
-
I give the Sox a 50/50 chance of finishing .500 for the year, or half of it.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
elrockinMT replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Podsednik is a good ballplayer, who contributed in a substantial way to our Wolrd Series victory year. He deserves some respect for that. I understand we are a group of "What have You Done For Me Lately/Today" folks, but we so undervalue our own players it is ridiculous. Pods is not the reason this team failed this year. Yes, he is injury prone as is Erstad, but they also can provide a spark when needed and when healthy. If neither are here next year it's because of those injuries and the emergence of one of our minor league players, or a free agent signing of a CF'er. -
I don't see Fields at SS really do you? Maybe a trade for Tejada or they reup Uribe would be my guess. Fields is LF and Crede at 3B. The comment was made that Crede can prove himself again. Joe doesn't have to prove himself in my opinion. He can do a gold glove job at 3B and this back surgery will not be a hindrance from the medical reports mentioned in various Sox sites.
-
If Contreras finds his form again then we will have a real good pitcher to solidify that starting staff.
-
The ole Hawkeroo. A legend in his own mind and a hall of famer, who never got his due. Stone probbaly struck him out once or twice.
-
Heard it on XM Radio and the highlights on ESPN. It was a good night.
-
Let's see here: we want to make a late run at a playoff berth. However, we get runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and as usual don't prouce and drive in that run. Something doesn't add up here.

What the hell was Ozzie doing, volume 80 billion

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) I honestly think Joey talks less than Harold. And I do not trust his bug eyes.. But, he and Ozzie are buddies. I liked Rock Raines and when he was replaced by Ozzie for "not doing his job" I thought it was crazy. I must of missed something. What job wasn't he doing? -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) *sigh* It amazes me how smart we all are around here. We'd be 162+11=173-0 EVERY YEAR with the brain power we have here at soxtalk. Then baseball would be boring because we'd win every single game. Yes, yes we are!! -
White Sox vs. Indians, 8/07/07 (L)
elrockinMT replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Danks with 3 groundball outs in the first inning. That's a good start. I'll probbaly listen to most of the game on XM radio as soon as I can. -

I wouldn't give PODS to the Cubs at all. -

Sox Mailbag has some interesting tidbits
elrockinMT replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Booras should not be the problem people seem to think he is as far as resigning a player. Crede already made that plain. Joe Crede is not the first player to go down injured and he won't be the last. He most certainly can come back healthy and ready to contribute. He is a very good option next year and beyond at 3B. Josh Fields can make it as a LF'er and our team will be better for it. It seems as if some folks would cut their noses off to spite their face when it comes to Sox talent. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) No chance. He isn't in the same territory. Heck, just look at last night's game. Fields is a below average defender. He may eventually get better - I hope he does. But even then, its unlikely he gets to Crede's level defensively. I'd like to pull out some numbers, but with Fields only playing a small bit, his defensive numbers are probably not a good measure yet. D numbers usually need most or all of a season to become useful. I agree with Northsidesox 72 here. You listen to baseball experts and they also tell you Fields although adequate is not on the same level as Crede. Josh has a future with the Sox for sure, but he was brought up because of Crede's back surgery and for his bat.
