Please enlighten me to what Bruce Levine has been right about so far on KW/Sox trades? 3 players for one is not a good deal in my opinion.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) A one year blunder. Agree with that analysis 100%. No fence riding on that one

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) How about Oscar Gamble? He and Zisk packed quite a punch in 1977 and because Bill Veeck didn't have any money were both one year rentals I believe. Oscar Gamble came to the Sox in April 1977 from the Yankmees along with Lamar Hoyt in exchange for Bucky Dent. He hit 31 HR's and drove in 83 for the Sox in that Winnin Ugly/Southside Hit Men year. He left via free agency to San Diego never matching the totals again. He was back for a short stint with the Sox in 1985 as a DH.

Would the Sox have interest in Randy Johnson?
elrockinMT replied to Kenkait Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) Even Clemens doesn't have upside. At that age, the are what they are or they are on the way down. I think he has an upside but a downside too. I feel real strong both ways about this one -
Alex is a good solid back up at 2B, SS and 3B. I think that if given a chance to play everyday he could hit for a real decent average, but he is more valuable to this team as a super sub. Mack doing some back up at 3B and Alex at 2B and SS looks good again. Now I want Crede signed to stay with the team.

QUOTE(Kenkait Sox Fan @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) D-Backs will not want the entire salary. He would probably take a place closer to home but would want a contender. If back healthy, this would be a major type move that KW loves to make (if not Clemens). It would also make more sense to the McCarthy move to open up a rotation spot for a year until the prospects are ready. I have to disagree with you that this is the type of trade KW likes to make. Randy Johnson has some upside, but if we trade for him and he has a year or two left we lose the advances we just made with the acquisition of young players and keeping the payroll in line. The Yankees will want a lot for the Big Unit and I think someone else should pay it not the Sox. -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Unless he's talking about a young arm--not one of the 4 vet SP's. KW said as much about those 4 not going anywhere after the Danks deal. If you're talking about Broadway or Gio, I agree, they could be moved in the right deal [such as for Baldelli]. But KW said the 4 vets aren't going anywhere. I am only stating my suspicions and not advocating a trade or saying it will happen. KW also said McCarthy wouldn't be traded. Anything is possible and with the other teasm needing pitching so badly they might pay a real premium for one of our guys. So the potential is there

A thread you HAVE to see.....(McCarthy)
elrockinMT replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I liked Brqndon McCarthy also, but the guy gives up a ton of homers and has only one full season in the majors, which was in the bullpen. He didn't exactly shine there mind you, but had a lot of upside. Now we are comparing him to pitchers that have been around the league for awhile and saying we could have gotten more. I don't think we could have without giving up more ourselves. The guy isn't "Cy F***ing Young," no matter how you slice it. He has a real good future, but with us it was as the #5 starter. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) I don't see it. If it does happen however, then Dye needs to be next. You trade ANOTHER starter, than 07 is over. If that is the case, I wouldn't have that much of a problem with it, but do it right then. I think it would be way too risky to trade another starter, just from a PR standpoint. It seems like the interest in baseball is at an all time high in the city of Chicago, and while some may argue, I think the battle for the top city in the team is closer than people think. The Cubs have owned the city for a while now, but the Sox are close. Shipping off another starter, especially a face like Buerhle, would really hurt the reputation of the team, and it might not be something you want to do right now. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a smart move, because if done right, you could wash out 07, and be stacked for 08-13, but your risking losing ALOT of fans in the process, something that wouldn't be smart. I think KW needs to try and sign Jermaine for at least another 3 years. I also don't think '07 is a washout as we still have an excellent staff and will be in there right up to the end and hopefully win it all again. It is very possible another starter leaves via the trade route, but of course that isn't a given. But, no one thought BMac was anything but untouchable. Crede is another one I think KW needs to concentrate on signing for several more years and look at Fields for LF. He may play that position at Charlotte in '07 to learn the ins and outs of OF play.
-
There may very well be another starting pitcher traded and I still think the Sox staff is looking strong and we will compete for #1 in 2007.
-
My guess is one more starter is traded and that might be Buerhle.

Williams obsession with certain prospects
elrockinMT replied to shawnhillegas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) I dont mind the deal, but for the fact that our outfield is still god-awful in left and center. But what concerns me here are Kenny's statements that he had been scouting Danks and Masset since June; they were the crown jewels that he was intent on getting for our system. Kenny seems to have done this for a number of different prospects and every day major leaguers now, from Vazquez to Thornton, and I am wondering what others think about this strategy. I'm convinced that if you spend enough time focusing on one player, you will end up overvaluing that player, much the way that we tend to overvalue our own prospects. Is the obsession with Danks a good thing, or does it blind Kenny and prevent him from seeing far better options that may be out there, especially in the outfield? I can certainly appreciate your thoughts and concerns on the scouting issue, but the other train of thought would be to make absolutely sure the guy is worth going after and just watching a few games, or for a few weeks isn't really going to tell you everything you need to knoiw for a good decision. Plus I am sure more than just one or two people help make these decisions so you want as many of your involved decision makers or observers involved in the actual scouting report. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) Well, now we not only need a LF, but also a good #5. We might still see a major free agent signing.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) If the goal is to acquire stud pitching prospects, which it clearly is, why was Garland more valuable than McCarthy -- why is Danks better than Hirsh? Can't say I quite like this trade -- leaves us with a huge fifth starter hole -- but, well, I never thought McCarthy was great. Wonder how he'll pitch in the August heat of Texas. My mind is trying to get around this trade and I am still trying to figure out the Garcia deal too, but I can't say I am against ether. However, we trade our best prospect in McCarthy for two of Texas' best? Texas hasn't had a pitching staff to speak of forever. These two or three had better be REAL good. It makes you wonder how good the Sox organization really thinks about our own prospects? But, I don't agree with people calling for a trade of Garland, or Buerhle and Vazquez for that matter. They are proven and you need experience on the hill when competing for the Championship.

End of conversation: Bosox sign him to minor league deal.

Bajenaru a diamondback minor leaguer any interest
elrockinMT replied to Bubba Philips's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(forrestg @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) Everyone was so high on jeff bajenaru but he didn't do so well in the bigs. three homers 4 earned runs in one inning of work for a 36.00 era for the diamondbacks in '06.. he was lights out for us in AAA for . He now sits with a diamondback minor league contract. Any thoughts? Could he be back ? Not with us he won't be back. This just goes to show that the success of a player at the minor league level doesn't necessarily translate into big league succes -
You aren't goint to be subbing very much, if at all, for Jim Thome. If he sits for a game or two I would think someone other than Konerko would be the DH, but it's possible that Thome and Konerko might change roles on occassion. CF relief will be by either Owens or Sweeney in my opinion. Mack only in emergencies. I don't know diddly about this guy Terrero we signed.
-
Little reason, if any to start Thornton. He is still in the process of mastering the relief role. He made good progress last year and I am hoping he will dominate in 2007.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 06:18 AM) Do you all think Pods is capable of a strong comeback year, or is he finished? I think his 40 stolen bases and 19 caught stealing would indicate his days as an ultra productive leadoff man are over. His .261 batting average, 45 RBIs are pathetic numbers. He did, however, score 86 runs which isn't half bad. Do you agree with me the 86 runs scored is acceptable? My other question is ... the signs are we are getting an aging, slower Pods for this season. If he does suck, who do you think will replace him in lf? Our team is pathetically slow on the bases and Pods getting caught 19 times shows he may be another plodder this season. If he is healthy PODS can still produce and steal lots of bases. I would also think we have plenty of yougsters that can fill the role as super sub in the OF, but if not I am guessing another low cost, but helpful signing will be made from the FA group still out there.
-
I think this was a good read. I have always wondered if some MLB teams have a bottomless supply of dollars to spend especially when they give $11M a year to a .500 pitcher? Is their team insurance that good to cover the inflated costs of a player with suspect health? I love Joe Crede and I thought Freddie Garcia was something special, but how can we afford to pay the salaries being demanded for mediocrity, let alone pay for players as good as Joe and Freddie and the sums they may well demand and warant under this system?
-
I only have my concerns about the Garcia deal because I thought we'd get more, but I can live with it. I like the smaller signings because what I see is that we have a very strong team needing only some added role players to make it even stronger. Teams out there spending their entire bank account on one player apoparently haven't learned that it takes an entire team to win. There are a lot of very good free agents out there that can be part of a winning nucleus without costing a billion dollars.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) The 2005 Sox deserved to be mentioned with that group, but the greatest of all time? Come on. Remember this is a White Sox forum. I disagree with the list because it doesn't include more White Sox teams and I am proud to say I am biased.
-
As with all trades you have to wait to see what develops as far as success or failure of the move. However, I like this one from first look.

Rocky Colavito and Ken Boyer also played for the Sox in 1967. There are more also
