Trade away another starter or two from the Sox and I am willing to bet we are no better than 3rd or 4th in the AL Central next year. Pitching is where it's at and we can get all the "potential talent" in the world, but I don't see it helping before a couple of seasons at the earliest. If these other teams need our guys so bad I think we should be gettting more than what we did for Freddie. You wonder when some of them are going to bankrupt anyway at the prices they are paying for mediocrity.

QUOTE(Guillen @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) The rumor also included trading Crede to the Yanks, bringing up J. Fields and moving AROD back to shortstop. Heh that was my idea except for trading Crede!!! Maybe with all that money saved we can sign Bonds and pack the house every night as he goes for Hammerin Hanks record?

I am going to be really pissed if Garland is dealt. Plus good management decisions are not made in a vacuum. If you trade for pitchers you should talk with the pitching coach. Especially young talent. In my opinion KW does not have a good history of trading away or for young pitching talent.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
elrockinMT replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You never know is all one can say about rumors, but what really are the Sox gaining here? We trade a proven #1 or #2 starter for a good CF'er while we have 3 potential CF'ers iun waiting? We aren't trading from strength and adding what we need. What we need is top tier bullpen help. I luv A-Row abd maybe the team chemistry improves with him back, but this doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. -
He is not that great of a fielder, but he gives 100% and can hit and also run the bases. I liked what I saw from Pablo last year. Good utility man

QUOTE(bulokis @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) That deal doesnt look good for us. I am still oppose in trading mark buerhle. Reading about these rumored deals is making me think we are just begging people to take one of our starters. There is no gain for the Sox. What are we thinking? We have damaged goods?

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
elrockinMT replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Pods was a real good signing and potentially, which is what all trades and signings are until the season is underway, a good move for the Sox. I support Pods in LF. Let's go Sox! -
Why is not offering Riske arbitration a mistake? The guy didn't cut it last year. We can still negitiate with him at a lower price, if they so choose. Offer arbitration nand unless I am wrong you might get stguck with having to keep the fellow right?

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
elrockinMT replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am happy with Scotty Pods back on the team. Hopefully he is healthy in '07 and will steal many bases and get on base lots of times. Ross Gload is a very good back up man at LF and IB and PH, but neither he or Ozuna should be starters on the Sox team. -
Did Kenny really say this? I want to hear from him first. McCarthy may not be as well suited for the pen as some think. He is a real good talent but young and learning. Maybe starting at AAA is best for him and his future. On the other hand I have no problem with 6 starters
-
I think he will stay becasue he is an integral part of a championship team. He is getting better in the field (if that's possible) and at the plate. he is young and can provide stability at 3B for years. It has been discussed that Josh Fields can move to LF. Josh is not the caliber of fielder that Crede is and is an unproven talent. Just because Scott B is the agent for Crdde is no reason not to try and sign Joe. Trding Joe away is simply the first move in revbuilding a team that doesn't need to be rebuilt. Now, will the Sox entertain offers? Sure they will and they will on all PLAYERS. JUST DON'T TRADE FOR THE SAKE OF TRADING.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Rumor has it Gagne was looking for a 1 year $10 million deal... With his type on injury how could he realistically expect that much? Possibly signing him to an incentive laden contract makes sense, but I question whether the Sox have an interest.
-
Really I am getting more convinced that Pods will be back in LF and we will use Anderson or Owens in CF with the other being the #4 OF'er along with guys like Ozuna and Gload once in awhile at LF.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Joe is the 2nd best defensive 3b in the al, imo. Excuse me?! The second best? Shame on you -

No matter: we all know that Joe Crede is a gold glove thirdbaseman -
Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Let's hope this is more hogwash and we keep Joe and Freddie -
Vazquez has the potential to win 20 games. I don't see that in any AAA Sox prospect at this time. Plus we have some real potential young OF prospects ready to move up. Young will no doubt be a good player though.

Everyoner says the say thing and I agree. Wer see absurd amounts of money going to msrqui players, but one guy doesn't win a championship by himself and we saw in 2005 that it might not even be the star that wins it for us.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) Durham is going to get a multi year deal in the range of $7.5M-$9.5M per. This for a 34 year old oft-injured secondbaseman whom you'd be asking to switch positions. We have seen the results in the past with expecting someone to switch from their normal/natural position to another spot. I don't recall it being to pretty for the Sox

It's fun reading, but keep in mind that sportswriters fancy themselves as GM's and think they have all the answers. Probably not much to these trade ideas as they come from the writer making suggestions and not from any real source within the team.
-
I think Pods has a a lot of upside plus that's why you have farm systems: homegrown talent deserves a chance and they are far easier on the club pocket book.
-
I am not all that charged up about thinking about trading any of our starters. We have a strength in that area and good pitching wins championships.
-
I have no problem with Pods being back. I think a lot of our players suffered from some nagging injuries and Pods was one of them. 50 sb's minimum in '07 is a real possibility from Pods and I think he will improve on his batting average too. There is no way I want to see the kind onf money paid out to these FA's coming from our team. Matthews Jr is the prime example of a crazy system out of control. One good year and he gets $10M a year?! My goodness gracious great balls afire.
-
I think I would prefer to try our own prospects rather than go after someone elses problems. I would support a move to get Aaron Rowand back though.
