I think ESPN is showing the Sox and Tigers on Wed. night. Wonder who they will be all charged up about?

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) I'd laugh my ass off if Contreras drills Thomas in the back. All Contreras had to do was throw that forkball, and he would have K'd Thomas last inning. It sure looks like this season is going to be full of "what might have happened."
-
It may feel like it guys, but the game isn't over yet. The number that stciks with me kis Thomas 3 for 8 with 2 homers and 7 RBI's plus walks. Thome and Konerko ?

QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 04:17 AM) Watched it here in L.A. today, too bad they lost it........ I did see it and wish I hadn't now

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) I'm to the point that if we get good value I have absolutely no problem moving Brandon. The other side of this argument is the possibility we have just had a bad year and next they will all be on track again. We have 5 real good starters, or so history tells us. I was all in favor of trading Freddie Garcia, but with a new pitch and his game against the Angels he is changing my mind. We need a solid bullpen, but we have three pretty good ones and could add 1 or 2 more. I am not certain anymore more McCarthy fits in this equation.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 03:43 AM) He is an excellent hitter. His defense isn't as good as some are making it out to be. His range is not very good and he is slow. He may not be a Torii Hunter or Ken Griffey Jr, but he ain't bad. I have seen some really great catches from Dye and he gives it his all. I know it sometimes is all in the eye of the beholder and I respect your comments, but must respectfully disagree. But, I am sure you disagree with me too.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 06:35 AM) Thome was acquired because we need a power lefty bat to hit right handed pitchers. Has that train of thought suddenly changed all of a sudden? Do we want to bring back the days of Crazy Carl Everett? You don't trade Jim Thome. The idea of platooning him is awfully strage. Using that reasoning we would have PK sitting against righties and Gload playing 1stbase. We have a real good offensive team lacking at CF and LF and possibly SS. But the trade off is good defense in CF and SS. Six of one and half dozen of the other. Our problems this hyear have usually been from pitching. Starters not doing their job or relievers- it just seems to change from game to game or series to series.

QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) I predict the sox will go on a 8-0 run OK! I'll buy into that. In addition I needd to say that this isn't Ozzie's fault. You play the game with the hand that's dealt you. Poor bullpen performances, no clutch hitting and 9 homers by Thome in the second half... that's why we are losing ground.
-
This team has played uninspired baseball for the second half of the season. We have an inconsistent bullpen and a high and low starting staff. Jim Thome has hit nine homers (count them 9) in the second half and Frank Thomas has hit nine in September alone. But, It ain't over till it's over. I am still going to stick with our chances to win at least the wild card till the bitter end. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) Your standards are quite low. Dye is an excellent outfielder. Why are you so down on Jermaine Dye? I think the guy is our MVP this year for sure.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 05:12 AM) Dear God I am in a terrible mood right now, f***ing Sox always do this to me. I just really don't want the Sox to settle for mediocrity this offseason and I do believe Pierre is just that. Can't we just for once have a decent fielding, non-pussarmed, high OBP leftfielder/leadoffman? I don't think it's that much to ask. Or is it? I agree Kalapse. Pierre is not the answer for our CF problems.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:56 AM) I'm so thankful that Ozzie continues to put Mackowiak in CF. Luckily, putting him in CF hasn't haunted us once this season, so I can't fault our great manager for continuing to put him out there. Fathom, was this supposed to be in green? Mack doesn't belong in CF

Many stations show both FOXgames, but here they only do it once in awhiule. However, the game they usually broadcast is the West coast so I am thinking I'll see the Sox.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) " ......the undisclosed network is believed to be the BBC and will only be televised in the UK" Dang it and that channel is not carried by my cable provider.
-
I don't see Gload as the answer in LF. He is a good role player, but we are going to be looking at a right hand hitter with speed. Plus you want defense to back up the pitchers.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Ha, that ain't happening but yes, I'd say that sounds pretty good. No, it doesn't and I would say it isn't a realistic trade possibility or should even be considered. Trades will be made no doubt, but you shouldn't be giving away a starter at SS and a premium starting pitcher for one player.
-
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 03:28 AM) hmm as long as 2/3 between MacDougal/Jenks/Thornton stays healthy were fine The bullpen has not been a fun thing to watch. However, Thornton, McDougall and Jenks have been pretty good. I was a bit concerned about Jenks blowing 3 saves and when he gave up six straight hits over 2 games without an out I was really worried. But, he seems to have gotten back on track.
-
I don't buy into the statement that uribe's defense is poor. He is avery good defensive SS. Hitting is another thing. I liked Uribe more as the super sub infielder. Maybe he should return to that role.
-
This was a close call again and came down to the bullpen. I had to think for asecond when Jenks gave up back to back singles to start off the 9th. That made six straight hits he allowed over 2 appearances and no outs. He then got the DP and aK so I think maybe he righted the sinking ship that was Bobby Jenks as the closer

You don't trade Joew Crede, or any other major and solid piece of your ballclub and open up a hole just to fill some other hole. Joe Crede is an all-star caliber gold glove third baseman. If you need outfielders look within the organization or sign a free agent.

It would be nice if our relief corp learned something about pitching from watching Jose -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) He's been good in past half a dozen starts. Hopefully it can continue. There's still hope with him folks. But, I would be quick to add not for Freddie Garcia. I think Freddie should be the trade bait next year. I am also quite concerned about Buerhle and his inconsistent pitching. Garland is the ace, Javier is showing back to back to back good outings but pitching in bad luck and Contreras is at least a 50/50 toss up when he pitches.
-
I heard an interesting comment from Black jack McDowell Saturday when he was broadcasting the game with DJ. A relief pitcher must have a certain mentality going and it's not the same as a starter's mentality. Brandon doesn't have it as a relief pitcher. The kid gives up too many homers and more often than not in atough situatgion he can't get the first batter out. Our bullpen for the most part has done everything they can to lose games,
-
Jon Garland has become the ace of this staff and to think there were people calling for him to be traded
-
Jenks was supposed to be healty. If he is then what happened? 4 doubles in the 9th and not a guy out. It seems our pitching staff looks for new goats every game
-
This is not a fun season for me and I base that solely on our subpar performance after the all-star break. I thin at the break we were 3 games behind the Tigers, but we were winning and I was thinking this was going to be a heckuva a race. The good news is we can still take the Wild Card, but we need to start playing like winners.
