It's funny how all of a sudden that Jon Garland has been designated the 5th starter. Last year with 18 wins he was one of the most consistent. No one is happy about his seeming lack of success this year, none more so than Jon I would venture to guess, and my bet is he will get turned around. What Jon garland needs the msot is a swift kick in the rear end. He has always been his own worse enemy.

Uribe's offense started to decline in 2005 and is very serious this year. As has been pointed out if you aren't hitting you had better be fielding at a gold glove level. Uribe has shown us some spectacular fielding ability, but not of late and any fielding mistake he makes is magnified because of his anemic hitting. I think he needs to be benched for awhile and get his butt kicked by Ozzie and the coaches on a daily basis so he starts to wake up and listen. The coaching staff has been on him for quite awhie about his plate discipline.

I think that Nelson's strength is that sweping curve and his slider. A fastball at 85 to 90 to complement those pitches makes him tough when he has control and keeps the ball down.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 21, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Yes, we should trade McCarthy, a young up and comming Starting pitcher with monster potential for a player or 2 at the most inconsistent position in baseball. You don't trade young, good starting pitching for relief pitching. No reason to trade our great starting pitching for a relief pitcher anyway. We need these guys in the pen to step up a notch. The Cubs game disgusted me to no end, but let's not panic.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ May 21, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) I was against this trade when it happened, but it's starting to look like the Sox made a good move. Of course, Thornton has had his share of bad innings so far, but nobody in the bullpen has been lights out, and having his 97 throwing southpay ass is probably more valuable than Borchard taking AB's away from Ozuna. I'll add my thoughts on to your post. I wasn't so much against the trade as I was just of giving up on Borchard. I figured there had to be an upside to Matt Thornton who could throw 99 MPH BB's. He just needed someone who could help him harness that raw speed to be effective. I think that is happened. However, I still wish we would have traded someone other than Borchard as I see him as more versatile and more upside than what we have been seeing with Gload. Now mind you I realize it's hard to be productive when you get like 1 or 2 at bats a week, but that may also be the reason we should have kept Joe B as the OF is where we can manuever more for spot starts and fill ins,

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ May 19, 2006 -> 02:06 AM) Thought I'd post this before everyone decides to go insane about being in second place... It's May 18th. That is all. Tom Hanks was wrong!! There IS crying in baseball.

I am afarid that Ozzie is going to let Boone Logan take one for the team here and this score might be aaaaaaastronomical. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) More? He hasn't had much at all. I have said it before, I think Logan can be a good major league pitcher, but he should have been no where near the major league club. Send him to AA, get him some solid, consistent innings in, and bring up Lopez for the time being until Nelson is ready. SERENITY NOW!! Yes, I agree completely. More seasoning when he has had none or little all measn the same thing. Logan shouldn't be here that's that -

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 16, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Guys, the Rays are NOT a joke this year, nor were they really much of a joke at the end of last year. Kazmir is most certainly the real deal, and they have some good young talent that goes through hitting streaks. I mean, they handed the Yankees their asses all season, and routinely give them problems. They are 5 under hitting .230 as a club. Imagine if they had not been slumping so badly. REPLY: Yes, Kazmir seems to be a real good pitcher, but we shouldn't be getting shelled so badly here. At least the pitching staff should give us a chance!!! We need some relief help or as the season wears on we will have trouble just as we have seen early. -

I have to believe that Boone Logan needs to get more minor league experience. He can get some innings in down there. Maybe we will be seeing Jeff nelson pretty soon? Anyone know how Jeff has been throwing lately? -
Who is your favorite player from 80's, 90's, and 00's?

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 16, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) 70's - Dick Allen, Bill Melton 80's - Carlton Fisk, Harold Baines 90's - Robin Ventura, Frank Thomas 00's - Mark Buehrle, Paul Konerko Well there is no reason to start a new post. YASNY has named them for me. Gosh I can still remember an ESPN sportscenter where they led off with the story of "Rockin Robin and his Band of Merry Men" when Robin Ventura had a hit a grand slam home to win the game for the Sox and it showed the Big Hurt lifting Robin over his shoulder as the team danced. -
The umps screwed us last night, but Vazquez did melt down for some reason and tipping pitches might have been an issue. He looked good for 3 or so and then blew up.

Wouldn't be so bad having the Tigers in 1st right now

It's better when you are top dog and not looking up at the rear end of someone else. -
QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ May 14, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) When the Sox aren't on WGN or ESPN, then I have to sit infront of my computer. I finally bought the XM satellite radio. Only bad thing there is you only hear the Sox announcers when it's a home game for the Pale Hose.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 13, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) MDT? Watchu talkin bout, elrock? That's that big American Desert out West where the buffalo play that everyone keeps forgetting about when it comes to time zones
-
Saturday night on WGN at 5 PM MDT Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN-HD at 6 PM MDT Only bad thing is we have to see it played in Twinkie land rather than U.S. Comiskey Park

Big Jon is certainly having hs share of problems this year. He just needs to have some confidence and grow a pair to get back on track.
-
QUOTE(Drew @ May 11, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I actually think the Angels broadcasting team is a lot more even-handed than most when it comes to the Sox. However, I don't think you can say your slumping team is 'back' after roughing up a rookie pitcher. Let's see how Escrybaby does against Garland. I think he is all wet!! The game got rained out get it???
-
The umps probably will never give a newbie bbay pitcher any calls especially the close ones.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 11, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) Can someone admit it was lack of control and not getting squeezed that got him into this trouble? I know i am not the only one that realizes a ball at the letters in not a strike... yet everyone has said otherwise today. I am unable to watch the game, but controlling a knuckler is experience and maybe this kid just isn't there yet. On the other hand those knucklers dance so much that sometimes the picther really doesn't know where it's going.
-
Send the kid down after this game. Trade AJP as he can't catch anything anymore
-
Early in the year so I still think at the end Mark Buerhle will be in the running
-
Joe Crede equals glove of gold my friend. You are dialed into the choir when you talk of Crede and his leather
-
My guess is no trades this season of any starting pitcher. The only thing we may need on this club is a stud closer and there aren't any out there I know of that are being offered around. Jenks has been shaky at times, but is young and learning at the ML level just like McCarthy. So far we have been getting it done and have a really good offense that can make up for the shaky relief corp.
