  1. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) Nice game! Jenks was a little shaky, but I actually thought that with the exception of one pitch, he looked alright. Unfortunately, that one pitch made the game a little scary. to Mr. Thome, Jose, Pauly, etc. Just finished watching Thome's post game interview. Gave the Comcast guy a pat on the back after the interview. I know its been said many times before, but he sure is one classy guy. I am concerned that Bobbie Jenks is not up to the task of being a closer. You have a fellow with alot of talewnt, but he hasn't played higher than AA ball before last year and doesn't have the experience. You don't have the luxury as a pennant contending club to OJT your closer. Jenks has not looked good more than once already this season and needs to step it upia notch quick. If we were in a one-run game today in the 9th we would have lost it one bad pitch or not.
  2. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) Amen, Nuke. I think I'm going to strangle the next person who b****es and moans. I think you can go to jail for that
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) With the shape Thome is in, if he stays healthy I could seriously see him winning an MVP. He is freaking amazing. I like watching him hit more than anyone in baseball. I really hope he stays healthy. I am happy we have Thome also. He is hungry to show that he belongs with the Sox and he wants to win as bad as the Big Hurt did. I wish Frank the best and I lied him on our team, but I wonder about the health and his durability. Thome has shown he is ready to return to big bopper status.
  4. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) I have been a Sox fan for all of my 34 years, but starting last year, during the playoffs and especially during the off season and during the first couple of games this year, old time Sox fans appear to love to complain about the increase in attendance and attention the team is receiving. Bottom line, increased attendance and attention allows the team to build payroll and improve its chances of winning. Why not welcome these new fans instead of giving them crap. I am sick of hearing from all these people whining about: Going to McCuddys and the new fans didn't. Walking up day of game and getting tickets in the past. Being a long time fan entitles them to tickets before someone who recently became a fan. Growing up in Bridgeport or the Back of the Yards and new fans come from the suburbs. Never throwing a ball back. How someone should eat a hot dog. Ketchup is a condiment, deal with it. EXCUSE ME!!! I have been a Sox fan since 1959. I am not complaining about the attention the team is getting. However, you can use the old Yogi Berra saying and adjust it to read: "Comiskey Park? No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded."
  5. QUOTE(trottime @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) I was very impressed with the Indians' pitching the last two days. True, there were some hit batters, but they seemed to have great location and were able to pitch to spots that their scouts apparently had told them were problems for our hitters. They were pitching outside to Anderson and he had a very difficult time, including striking out twice. Paulie seemed to have a hard time as well. I hope this is not an indication of what the Indians' staff will be like this year. The Tribe's pitching is one that can rival the Sox. They have always had good pitching though. Last year we played 9 one-run games against them, but we won all of them. Now in game 3 of the 2006 season we lost one in 11 innings. We don't have Pods or Konerko hitting yet either. Freddie Garcia pitched yet another one of his up and down games by getting knocked around for 7 runds. For some reason he tends to get bombed from time to time.
  6. We pummled the Tribe in Game One and they do us back in Game 2. Oh well, I think the sky is falling. We are done for the year. Konerko isn't hitting and has 2 GIDP's in 2 games and Pods ain't got no hits or SB's. What's up with that? Let's get them on Wed. I do wonder why we insist on leaving a pitcher in for 4 innings when he ain't got it though? Early in the season or not I don't understand the reluctance to go to the bullpen before 7 runs are given up.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) In a big game situation, Thornton might be brought out like he was last night, but just to face Hafner. He K'd Hafner with a pretty good sequence(from what I could tell in my seat) but them came back out for the next inning. Im not sure how much that is going to happen. On a related note, Cliff did not look good at all last night. I was impressed with Thornton and his K of Hafner. He looked really good there, but wild in the 9th. But, maybe the good sign was that he didn't get hammered and got out of the jam? Politte didn't look good, but he didn't look comfortable to me. He seemed to be having problems getting his footing when he landed on the delivery. I recorded the game off ESPN and watched it all too. I stayed up and waited through that 3 hour rain delay. Loved it!
  8. Opening is less than 75 minutes away. I have my fingers crossed and the DVD recorder is set on ESPN-2. My 4 yr old granddaughter is visiting and we took her shopping so she won't demand to watch cartoons during the baseball game. If that bribery didn't work she may have to sit outside in the snow bank.
  9. I am starting to check all available weather reports from the internet to the TV Weather Channel. I have to believe we will have this game. I will see you all on the TV.
  10. I will have to settle for the game on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball-HD. I will be there with you all seeing in at Comiskey (yes Comiskey) in spirit though. My fear right now is the weather. I have beenchecking since Friday to see what Sunday's forecast will be. Hope that rain has already passed by game time.
  11. Umpires do the best they can within their abilities. I always loved the clip where Tony Larussa is offering an umpire his glasses after a close play at the plate and then gets booted.
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Recap | Box score SSH2005, Your pic of Jeff Nelson must be a joke right? He can't be on our so called radar is he?
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Why is it questioning any part of the White Sox team being pessimistic? There is another team in Chicago whose fans think all their players are hall of famers, I prefer to look at it objectively and realistically. The bullpen is a huge concern. The Sox won a lot of one run games last year. If Jenks stays in his funk, and guys like Thornton and Lopez are called on to get big outs, a lot of those 1 run victories can turn to losses. The offense should be a little better, maybe giving the bullpen a little room to work with, but if Jenks pitches like he did before he joined the White Sox organization, KW is going to have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat. The bullpen is a concern. I see the starters going 7-8 innings just like Buerhle did today vrs the Cubs, but you need that closer. I like Jenks and Cotts, but Jenks is a AA pitcher that has 1/2 a season of varied success. Cotts is still learning the role. But, ST is where things are ironed out and I am hoping once opening days is here everything gells.
  14. I was hoping to see one released that had ALL the playoffs and WS games, but I checked into the current offering and just ordered from deep discount. It seems like a good site.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) He looks uncomfortable on the mound. Just not very smooth. I saw Jenks last Saturday on WGN and he looked pretty decent against the Cubs, but not over powering either.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Can somebody break down Thorton's outing? he allowed 4 hits and walked 2 and Uribe committed an error. Cooper needs to wave his magic wand alongside this guys head. I want to be wrong about this trade-after all what can you do about it now but hope for the best-but Borchard had more upside as a 4th OF'er candidate in my opinion. Myabe they can get him straightened out though.
  17. I don't like the trade at all and I think Joe Borchard was going to be a good 4th outfielder for the Sox. This almost looks like a desperation trade to get another lefty reliever into the mix. I think Joe B had more upside and versatility than Gload or Pablo Ozuna. Hopes that Don Cooper can turn Thornton around can only lead one to assume that you don't have to have talent to pitch at the big league level only a miracle worker for a pitching coach. But, the trade is apparently done so we can only hope for the best.
  18. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) He's married. And has a new baby! Shame on you///
  19. Nothing unexpected there. It will be interesting when we get down to the last few days of camp though.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Pablo Ozuna hit like .700 in spring last year. I understand Ryan has alot more hype around him than Pablo does, but the fact is, anything can happen in Spring Training. I am excited to see what Ryan Sweeney can do in the future, but as of March 9, 2006, he still has a very long way to go. Lets relax on the Ryan Sweeney bandwagon. My guess is that in 2007 we won't have Dye anymore and people like Sweeney and Owens will be competing for that RF spot. Pods, Anderson and one of the rookies will form the OF.
  21. My guess is Ozuna is the odd man out. Pablo is not that steady as an infielder. Gload can offer some power and can play DH-IB and the corner OF spots. Borchard is a switch hitter with power and can play all OF spots. Gload is a very good defensive IBman and Borchard is a good OF'er while Pablo is in my opinion anyway a below average defensive player when you put him at 3B or SS. Cintron will be a steady defensive player in the infield and Mac is the same plus they both bring some lumber with them to the plate. Ozuna is out.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) This pretty much gets rid of one of Borch and Gload, correct? How is this going to shake out..... I have had serious issues with Pablo Ozuna's ability, especially fielding, to be a real good back up infielder. Maybe Pablo, who has been making some errors, will be out? Other than that I might expect to see Ross Gload gone. I think Borchard, who can play more outfield spots, would be the 4th outfielder choice. Konerko and Thome will most likely alternate between 1B and DH.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) This will definitely improve our base running Maybe Don Cooper can get him straightened out?!
  24. The 2006 season is just around the corner. All is well with the world once again.
