I got the impression that the 4th OF'er was going to be Borchard and I support that if it does happen. I think he might get agood look at the CF job too, if Anderson isn't ready.

Fastball as straight as an arrow and not that fast anymore -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) These are Seung-Yeop Lee's career numbers in Japan: 741 AB .251 AVG .321 OBP .506 SLG .827 OPS 75 BB 167 K I doubt those numbers would translate well to the MLB. He doesn't walk much, hit for average, but strikes out a lot. Lee is also only four months younger than Gload. I think Gload would probably be a better option. I rest my case!

If I remember correctly from the sports analysts talk when Mark came into relieve the mention was about a starter that only a game or two ago had pitched and now he was relieving. He may have been tired and sore, but he was not injured.

Howry's use of the term "career years" is absolutely ridiculous. I see a "career year" as being someone winning 20 plus games and never having a history of winning before. Everyoone of the Sox pitchers has a posiitve past with solid agreeemnt that they were going to mature into aces. We have 5 #1 starters and maybe 6 on this staff. You can put that on the board Bobbie Howry!

Chisoxfn, I prefer option 2 Also if there is a cost involved in doing these things I am more than willing to send you some $$$ to help. I appreciate the work and the extra effort you put in to make this site function.

Red Sox sign Julian Tavarez to 2-year deal

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) Contreras for Brazoban and a couple pitching prospects? I think you like the idea of getting little in return for a lot? Contreras is a #1 pitcher on many staffs and most certainly was for the last couple months or so for the Sox -
Anderson had a wrist injury in college I believe, which was aggravayed a couple yeasr back when he played at Rookie leevel Great Falls, MT. He underwent some surgery I believe for that old injury. Must be healed now. I think removing the plate is the last thing they do when recovery has been attained.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 06:06 AM) from the white sox perspective = crede's a health risk.... boras will not be tollerated.... crede wont be back after 2006. Don't read too much into that issue. The health thing is exactly the same thing people were saying about Paul Konerko and not signing him and/or trading him, if you remember. If Boras is nice and Hahn is nice and the come up with somethig everyone can live with you had better believe Crede stays for at least 3 more years. I hope he does too.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) I bought it last year and liked it alot. I got the portable one that you can use in your home, car, or on its own with a rechargable battery. I didn't even have to miss anything when I walked my dog. One cool thing about it is that it actually transmits a signal that you tune in on your radio. Last summer a group of us took a little road trip in 2 cars and the car following us was able to tune in the XM also. I didn't really use it that much after the baseball season ended, but you can subscribe monthly, so you don't have to pay for service if you're not using it. Thanks and to you too WTell. I think as the season gets closer I will make that purchase. The prices look pretty good too.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) I expect 2 or 3 more of these signings. Not being a spoiled sport or anything, or disrspectful to other posters, but I note on many similar type reports how we tend to lay things at the feet, or on the shoulders of Cooper. You have to have something to work with first before believing Mr. Cooper can make them the next star. I know nothing about Bentz, but if we compare him ability and recordwise to Munoz or Walker then we ain't go much, but someone to pitch at AAA.

So what I am hearing is that XM radio is really a good thing for us out of the Chicago TV area (except for WGN on cable)? I have considered buying me that there new fangled contraption to listen to Sox games. Please tell me it's the right thing to do if you want to hear all games during the season.

I believe someone famous once said, "It ain't over till it's over." I believe Kenny said he wasn't trading Marte too.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
elrockinMT replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but in order to get Tejada, I'd have no problem with the Sox doing this trade. I honestly believe Tejada is a massive upgrade over Uribe at the plate. I might be inclined to agree with you fathom. At first I was thinking that was too much, but with proispects you never know if they will pan out. Plus the Sox might insist on someone else to go with Tejada like Bedard? -
2.25M for a guy that played for 3 teams last year and was slip sliding away is quite a bit. Byrnes has hustle, but we have people who can play CF for a lot less money

I heard a rumor somewhere and sometime that Junior Griffey was available-or was it Senior? :rolly B)
-
Tavera straight up for Jose C is crazy. But, that's what most rumors are anyway-crazy stuff thrown out there. KW has shown this off season that he gets a lot in return for who he trades and there is no reason to doubt he will get alot in return if he trades Jose, Brandon or anyone else. The original rumor almost maes one think the Sox are desperate to trade. The truth is we have a great line up, probably better than last years, but still can imrove, but don't abslutely need to. Contreras isn't going anywhere if it ain't a huge trade. I still think Tejada might be the target.

Bradford signed with some NL club today. So that's that!

Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
elrockinMT replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) We've obviously got very different opinions on the two players. It seems that you never want to look beyond what happened last year when analyzing players. One good half season doesn't mean that he's suddenly a certified ace pitcher that we can't live without. Vazquez is the same type of pitcher as Jose, only he's younger and has a better history of pitching well. Even looking at the last two years for Javier, he pitched considerably better than Jose did when we acquired him, and for the rest of that year. Javier was an all-star in his first year with the Yankees, but he just fell apart in the second half. It's highly possible that he had an injury that threw him off, or that he simply had a dead arm and wasn't quite the same (he was worked pretty heavily in Montreal). You can virtually throw out that season in Arizona. That was an awful situation to be put in by the Yankees. Not only is the stadium a bandbox where your breaking pitches don't work as well, he was unhappy and stuck on a losing team. Javier is a very gifted starter that is moving into a much better environment with the Sox. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he was our best starter next year. The two guys have similar talent levels, but Javier is 5 years younger, has a less checkered past in terms of performance, and has a determined contract situation for the next 3 years. We'll see what happens, but I don't really see that much of a difference in their pitching abilities. I think we are looking at a 6 pitcher rotation. Did you notice how much stronger our guys were during the post season when they had some extra rest? Of course we might not see that rotation until the middle of May or so because of early off days during April, but I think it would be awesome. -
Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension
elrockinMT replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm happy thsat we are keeping Big Jon. I would like to see Contreras stay also, but we need to sign Joe Crede to a deal as well as that new dude Mckyowiakwacker, or wheoever. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Willie sounds like a great player, in the way they talk him up in that article. I do wish we could have kept him for our bench. I agree with you Greasy. I liked Willie and his hustle. Can't blame him that he wanted to play more though.
-
Texas probably overpaid, but then they have a history of that don't they? But, anyway they got a real good pitcher in Millwood.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) is this thread really happening? Is this like a some sort of server "echo" in which whatever topic has been discussed ad nauseum is automatically regurgiated in a new and more annoying way? Please you are making me sick! :puke

I think we have a better than 75% chance of keeping Garland, but the thought that we might use him in a blockbuster is intriguing.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Can't say I'd be mad. However, I will be surprised to see such happen. I have always liked Aaron Rowand on the Sox, but this scenario doesn't make a lot of sense. The other part of the trade talk is the Phillies. They wanted A-Row in CF and why would they be so willing to just part with him because KW wanted him back? But, I guess stranger things have happened and I would love Rowand back in Chitown.
