The news sources are reporting that Konerko signed becasue of the team, the management, the fans and the city and cause of my personal attempts at convincing him to sign with the Sox. Thanks so much and you're welcome...(: 5 years at $12M year

I think the Thome trade will benefit the White Sox. Thome can still hit, if he ever lost that ability, but was injured last year. If you believe the stories about Thome being in the best shape of his career then we can expect 40 plus homer from Jim. His situation can be much like Dye's was last season. I am not real happy about giving up two pitching prospects along with A-Row, but i guess the exchange might have been all that money for the minor league pitchers and A-Row for Thome. I have been seeing the rationale behind trading prospects for players in a different light though. We win now and the other teams might have a good player develop, but don't win the pennant. I guess it's what you want to see with your team. I for one sure enjoyed winning last season.

QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) you guys really hate carl don't you? I think Carl Everett the person is a great guy. He is a veteran player that brings a lot to a team, but he is not up to the challenge of being an everyday CF. You need speed out there and good defensive ability. Carl doesn't have that anymore.
-
Carl Everett is to slow to play CF. He is only adequate defensively at the corner spots in the OF. That's why he DH's. And I was disappointed in his bat last year late in the season. he became a singles hitter. Carl, the team mate, is a good thing, but I think Everett is finished in Chitown. We can put a rookie in the OF, save money and have more speed and defense.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Before things start flying around, I'm not advocating a deal. Yet with Ozzie's stated desire to add speed and a new #2 hitter, few position players could be moved with viable replacements. Pierre could be an option for CF and to hit #2. But that seems off the board. Anderson should be able to fill Arows role--good defense and some pop down in the lineup. So stick with the kid there. In order to pay big salaries elsewhere, the sox need to add in rookies. Pods and Dye are set, so the OF isn't an option The IF is the only realistic spot to add. Crede and Uribe came up big, esp in the playoffs. While both of their OBP's are bad, they have pop and gloves hard to match by any other options, via trade [of names mentioned who could be available--free agency probably isn't an option now w/ Thome added]. That leaves 2b. Could Iguchi's defense and offense be replaced? I don't know. Right now, only Luis Castillo comes to mind as a #2 hitter who seems to fit Ozzie's wishes and is rumored to be on the block [don't discount the added benefit of having another guy who could hit leadoff--Thome and PK need guys on base to drive in] If he's not hitting #2, he'd be another RH hitter with some pop hitting between 6th-9th. The sox already have Anderson, Uribe and Crede as similar types [though anderson does project to have a higher OBP]. Anderson will K a lot. Though Rowand K'd over 100 times. Tad K'd 114 times. More than likely, the sox stick with Iguchi as the #2 hitter. Still, it was Ozzie who convinced KW to change the style of play. And we all know Ozzie has said he wants more speed and a #2 hitter for 2006..... Thoughts? Iguchi may get moved, but it's only to another spot in the batting order. You don't trade the guy Ozzie calls the Sox MVP. Plus if you look at some of these trades brought up by other posters we are going to have 25 firstbasemen on the roster so you need a guy that can actually play another position other than firstbase.

Sox Reportedly Send Rowand, Gonzalez and Haigwood

I am not in favor of this trade. Too much talent, if in fact it is true, going away for an oft injured IBman when we have other options -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) Yes, lets sit down the Worlds Series MVP, that is a very common thought?? Who passed out the crack? Good question. Ths is the same type of tripe that was being put out during the regular season calling for the trade of every Sox player for someone of questionable value. Now I think Pierre might be just fine, but why are we talking about trading proven starters from the Sox for injured or one year stat builders? People seem so quick to tear down a winner.

Levine says there's a lot of interest in Marte

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Here's the link to the Chicago Tribune article. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...ack=1&cset=true May I say that I will be anxiously awaiting the DVD. I , like all the other great Sox fans, wanty a DVD with every game of the chamionship series and World Series. I can only pray that these commercializing SOB's don't play with our emotions. My credit card is ready folks.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) Frank is gone, the Sox don't want the injury risk. There is still a lot of upside to Frank Thomas and his staying with the Sox. Plus the injury risk is no different than with Piazza or Thome, both of whom were injured more than once. Besides Piazza's head is like a magnet and attracts baseballs by the dozen.
-
We should ask KW first, if he wants to sign the Japanese phenom. Marte might still be the lefty reliever, if he regains his confidence and isn't hurt.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) If the sox were looking at a right handed hitting DH [which I don't think will happen--maybe if he's a switch hitter], a guy like Nomar would be better than Piazza. I'm surprised LAA haven't been mentioned with them for DH. Nomas isn't going to play DH for any AL team as long as he thinks he can still play SS. Plus he is not ready for super sub play time. The guy plays SS not 2B or 3B.
-
I am still betting that the Big Hurt is our DH in 2006. Plus Frank has better power numbers than Piazza. Mike will be an AL DH next year just not with the Sox.
-
The Sox need to save their money and sign Konerko and Thmas. We have a solid outfield now. Plus why do some kind of a trade for a player earning way to much when we have Anderson, Borchard and others in wait.
-
Morrissey wrote agreat article. He didn't dis Konerko and prasised him for what he brings to the team. However, I think he is right that Paulie isn't a $15M a year player, nor in my opinion is any big league player in any sport. These things can start a whole new debate on an old topic as it concerns salaries. I just look at the Bosox and their issues with Manny Ramirez. Hard to trade a guy making as much as he does.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) The Yankees asked the White Sox about center fielder Aaron Rowand, but they were told by GM Ken Williams that there was no potential for a match. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Rowand will be dealt, but the White Sox would probably be better off waiting a year. Brian Anderson hasn't proven he's ready to take over in center field. If Rowand isn't an option, the Yankees could look at trading for Milton Bradley, Brad Wilkerson or Juan Pierre. Bradley's issues reportedly have much of the club's front office against a potential deal, but he's plenty talented and he'd come cheap. Nov. 11 - 4:02 am et Source: New York Daily News The Yankees have nothing left, in my opinion anyway, in their minor league system that would be attractive enough to make a trade for Rowand, but it amazes me how the Yankmees name continually come up in these deals. I could see them paying a grand sum for a free agent like Paulie, but they seem usually to buy their needs and not really trade for them. Plus is some minor league player worth an Aaron Rowand straight up? They are after all the best team money can BUY not trade for. In addition we always hear about how some team like the Yankmees are interested in our players. Why is a World Campionship team seen as needing to trade their best players to a team like the Yankinmees?

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 04:32 AM) I'm guessing he got the clap. Is he a farmer? I have heard of it occurring from contact with a tractor seat.

I just want to see the Big Hurt back next year. We all, including Frank Thomas and his agent, expected the buyout. Businesswise it makes sense. However, if the medical reports stay good and Frank's ankle and foot are healed, the Hurt will be back with an incentive laden contract. I only hope the team signs both Frank and Paulie otherwise next year we will be losing games 1-0 instead of winning them 1-0.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) AH HA!! So it's Ozzie that hates Paul, not Frank... or maybe it's Frank also. They are all ganging up on Paul... they all hate him. I would have never guessed it! They all hate each other.

All things are negotiable people no matter what the so called word is out there. The Sox have exclusive negotiating rights to Konerko until Nove 10th and maybe something gets worked out.
-
I can truthfully say that I always supported Joe Crede. But, I don't see any reason to run peple's faces in it either. We all seem to let the frustration of a few games during the season get in the way of seeing things over the 162 game big picture.

Al Lopez was a great Sox manager and even after retirement he would be at the Sox training camps when Spring Training for the team was in Sarasota, FL. Luis Aparicio, who was traded from the Sox to Baltimore and returned to the Sox spoke with reverence of Al Lopez and called him sir when he saw him at the Sox training camp. Yes, Al Lopez was a Sox fan, who loved baseball no matter where or who was playing. This is a sad day.

It's fun thinking about it, it's fun talking about it and it's fun being reminded about it. I was a snot nosed kid just starting little league baseball in 1959 and loved the Sox then. Nellie Fox was my idol. 46 yeasr later I am still a Sox fan but now we are World Champs. I need some of that Sox gear.

Carl Everett is a proud man and still has something to deliver a team. He is great in the clubhouse and gives it his all on the field. However, the OF is set and if the Big Hurt returns then Carl isn't going to be the starting DH. I don't think Carl will be back unless Frank is released and I don't want to see that.
