The negative commenst about Politte are off base when you consider the guy was hurt. I think we will see a sharper Cliff Politte and hopefully he will deliver like last year. Montero didn't do poorly at all. A bad game here and there, but lately he has come through. He showed he can be a set up man or a long relief dude. I watched the game last night and saw Roberto Hernandez, who could be a possible pick up, but why pay the money and trade talent for a 42 year old pitcher when we obviously have farm talent? The only reason I could see is the experience at the big league levels that Roberto could bring to the team.

Great story concerning Jenks especially after some less than positive stuff out of Spring Training. The kid is unhittable right now. Thornton seems to have really come around too.

Where did this POST come from and why? I am thinking we don't need SS help, but we are talking about pitching in this thread. What's up?

Watched the Sox and Astros on ESPN HD and it was great till the 13th. I love that HD, but we don't get the WGN station in HD here in Big Sky Country only ESPN.

Thread for people who left the game early tonight!
elrockinMT replied to Chisoxrd5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was watching ESPN from my easy chair and I have to tell you I never gave up hope. It looked bleak, but I told my fanmate (my wife in this case) to remember when the Sox almost beat the Indians after trailing 10-2 in the 9th. The Sox don't give up and I think that's what is helping Sox fever to catch on. If Thome doesn't go 0-6 and Dye get shut out too imagine what we might have done. I can't even say the fact Dye was removed for Gload did us in. Gload gave it his all going for that pop up triple in the 13th. The Astros got a break which we saw several times that game while the Sox line drives were at someone or caught at the wall. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 04:43 AM) If you pay 15 .. 20 .. whatever you pay .. wouldn't you want to get your moneys worth and watch the WHOLE game? And I'm sure as hell you would have been pissing in your pants when Gooch slamed, that alone I would pay $$ for. I'd never leave a Sox game early -
You want to find something positive to say about a Sox player no matter what, but it is difficult with Vazquez. He has had some good games and shows a lot of talent and potential, but the poor pitch selection on two strike counts is horrendous. He then gets shook up and blows big time even more. The guy needs to grow a pair and get some smarts about how, what and good pitching. He has screwed up way too much. But, we can say that about Jon Garland and Freddie Garcia also. They are not consistent. A real good game one time out and suck big time the next.

If they show the Yankees game as a back up I am guessing they had to shuttle in alot of stuff and announcers because it wasn't till yesterday's rain out the day-night affair was decided. I know that ESPN is secretly owned by the Yankees and Red Sox, but this is a bit ridiculous even for them. The White Sox are the game tonight or I write some blistering letters. There I know I scared them...

42 years old is NOT OLD. Now if we picked up Yogi Berra as the backup to Perz That's OLD! Roberto Hernandez might be a pitcher that can fill the set up role for the 7th and or 8th innings leading up to Jenks. But, I like what Riske has done and if Politte can pitch like we know he can I don't see a need. But, if Politte can do it than maybe Hernandez would be a good pick up.

QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Sorry I don't know how to link, but it is on the official site. Bauman writes a good article about how the Sox are now coming together and hitting on all cylinders. I am bewildered that Ozzie's dugout tirade in which Ozzie stated he called out the team (not just Tracey) for not standing up for each other is not listed as a contributing factor. Possibly due to the recent controversies, it is not politically correct to praise or defend Ozzie if you are in the media. My take is that Ozzie's tirade had the exact effect on his team that he wanted. There isn't much good to say about political correctness in my opinion. It is a term thrown out there too much anymore and hinders the ability to say it like it is and being honest. Don't get me wrong I think it is very improper to say things that degrade another, but when you speak the truth or stand up for what you think is right or simply speak your opinion it is wrong to criticize to the extreme I see some doing with Ozzie. Baseball is America after all.

Joe Crede's bright future v. Josh Fields, Ryan Sweeney

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) In my attempt at putting together the '08 roster I've taken a hint from some of the posters here along with Greg Graffin and James Hutton "questions that besiege us in life are testament of our helplessness "there's no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end", we have no control, we do not understand, you have no control, you are not in command!" god I'm a lame ass. I am sitting here trying to ponder this statement. -
Guillen doubts he'll attend sensitivity training

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Unfortunately, Ozzie's use of the word *** did offend gay groups. Whether or not he actually intends to attend sensitivity training he is out of line to say he won't attend. No matter what anyone thinks of Selig, he is the commissioner. Making him look worthless by ignoring the punishment he hands down does nobody any good, and could easily lead to stronger sanctions against Ozzie,ie. a long suspension. Ozzie being Ozzie doesn't fly. You either accept your punishment or if you don't want to play by the rules, go find something else to do with your life. The team has won 8 in a row, but Ozzie's still the story. Its ridiculous. I get your point and apparently so did Ozzie as I now hear he will attend the classes. -
YASNY, Hermy may be done in Chicago. I think it's going to boil down to Politte or Hermanson being trade bait for some team thinking they can win their division or in desperate need of relief help. I like them both though and if they can come back and be consistently good I am all for them being on the team.

Guillen doubts he'll attend sensitivity training
elrockinMT replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The issue was between Ozzie and Jay M. Not Ozzie and the Gay community. I agree with Ozzie that sensitivity training isn't the answer and in my opinion this is getting to be an issue of how can we (meaning MLB) be politically correct. -
I agree with everyone's comments. This is what shows me the team has really gelled again a a unit. They win the absolute blow outs, but also win with the pitching making up for no offense. I do remember that game last year when Garcia lost the one hit 1-0 game and this year he wins one.

QUOTE(guapotaco @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) They usually dont add up to the number of games though Maybe nobody wins sometimes? I think I have won much more often that the scoring indicates. I always know at the end of the game, but I just didn't put it down before the game.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 03:48 AM) It's on their Insider site, so I don't want to post, but it basically has the White Sox interested in Ken Griffey, Jr. again. Why, oh why, would we want Junior now. we would have him for another two-and-a-half years, and have BA, Sweeney and Owens on the way. What is the point? I know we've wanted him in the past, but let it go. It could happen for sure, but I don't think it will. The Reds may actually consider themselves in the running in their division and why do we pick up a bazillion dollars in salary?

QUOTE(lukeman89 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) its a girl girls know nothing about baseball Exactly. That's why they have men around all the time. (Sorry Steff)

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) Not that the Yankees and Red Sox cheerleaders in Bristol would have a vested interest in disrupting the Sox or anything. Is this the same ESPN group we are talking about that shows all 19 games of the Red Sox-Yankees series and claims to be broadcasting the best and most interesting games of the season? They aren;t going to have any luck at firing anybody let alone canning Ozzie.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) I didn't get to today's game, but while I was in Cincy and at the game and all that, you could see Sox fans EVERYWHERE. Downtown, at the park, on the roads, at the restaurants, making more noise than the Reds fans in the park. Well done Sox Army, and oh yeah good to see the team hitting it's stride, EVERYBODY contributing, and it's starting to feel like 2005 again. I listened on XM radio Friday nd Sunday and saw the game on WGN Saturday. It reminded me of the series in Denver last year whne I got to go and see the Sox take on the Rockies. There were more Sox fans in the ballpark those games than Rockie fans and I think the Rockie crowd started rooting for the Sox too.

Brian Anderson has a lot of talent, but this most likely isn't his year. He shows some great fielding and then makes rookie mistakes. He shows some clutch hitting on rare ocassions, but strikes out way too much. In fact, looking at his K's to AB ratio, if he were to play a whole season in the starting lineup and get around 500 AB's he would be on track to K about 180-190 times. Maybe next year will be different for him. But, with the hitters we have the team can afford to carry Brian, but if he doesn't show more I don't know if the second half will see him with the team or at Charlotte.
-
I am surprised about how quickly some folks forget that Thome played first base a lot. He ain't a virgin there.
-
I saw the game on WGN Saturday and I must say Jose was PHHHEEEENOMENAL! Too bad they get a blooper to score 2 runs of him and make it 5-3 at the time.

The Cubs suck and they are in the NL. Why do we care about the Cubs OTHER THAN they need to beat the Tigers? Go Cubbies!! White Sox rule!!
-
You plunk someone in the side or rear not the head. Ozzie knows that too. Plus you make your point by winning 3 out of 4 in their home ballpark anyway.
