Don't anyone take this the wrong way, but Selig and MLB will expect the Sox to look at minorities in their hiring decision for a manager, if in fact Jerrmy Manuel is gone. Who might be out there with either experience as a manager or as a big league coach? Willie Randolph maybe. How about Hank Aaron? Let's think big and wild here. I personally like Jim Leyland though. The issue remains though and that's will Reinsdorf drop Manuel. It might not happen, but the onus might be put on the players and a shake up done there. Kenny Williams would love being able to do a lot of wheeling and dealing I bet with and for established players.

Jose Valentin for Friday vrs KC

The problem with articles like tbis is that you really don't know if anyone actually said it.

Just had to post this again. I have stuck with the team from 1959-2003 and will stay a Sox fan. However, we are fan's of the team and it's rich history and not just a group of players. We had some great displays this year and some really awful ones. 3 1/2 out now and I just don't see it happening for us anymore. You never say never as a Sox fan, but we have to accept our fate also and it is to be let down every year. I think we will see some changes & maybe a big one at the top before the season ends who knows. We will be back next year. I don't know which year was the worse. 1967 when we had the best final 5 game schedule of the teams in the Great Pennant Race and then lost the last 5, 1983 with the playoff loss to Baltimore, 1993 and the loss to Toronto or 2000 and the Seattle fiasco? Maybe this year because we never could play to our potential and often looked dead whie playing. I really thought this was our year. I AM SORRY FOR BELIEVING

I wouldn't know a computer code from my car's keyless entry code so don't apologize. Glad you got it figured out.
-
That's my line for the rest of the year Soxtalk fans and friends: I AM SORRY FOR BELIEVING
-
Another pop foul. I am sorry for believing.
-
This may be what our eason looks like in nutshell. Close but no cigar. Lets go Alomar Jr.
-
Rowand with a 2-out hit and a walk to Crede.
-
Probably see Konerko bat for Daubach.
-
We can beat steady Eddie. However, only if we are patient. Can Sox hitters do that?
-
I got kicked off the internet for some reason, but I see I didn't really miss anything yet. Gordon is in and if there is anything good from this series it's been seeing a super bullpen.
-
Frank and Carlos with their pathetic pop foul outs. Situational hitting for the Twinkies I guess.
-
Like I said Marte is awesome. He K's Hunter and it's on to the 8th. Damaso is the best LH relief pitcher in baseball no doubt about it. Who can compare with him?
-
We still have two innings and six outs to play with. Let's hope that Miles woke these guys up to how to hit.
-
Why is it there is always one guy on the opposing team that takes us out, but we can't respond big? Jones with 2 homers and 4-rbi's. I hate these guys.
-
Marte is simply awesome.
-
Maybe we should give Manuel credit for using Miles and not Rios?
-
It's pretty pathetic isn't it? I saee bug Frank is working his magic too, as well as GIDP Lee. Dauback with 2 ks in 3 ab's. That's how you show fire in an must game.
-
Just logged on. The sit is amess. Valentin doubles and rookie Miles has to show the vets how to hit. An opposite field double. He gets his first major league hit and rbi at once. Go Miles.

The one thing about baseball is that anything can happen. The deciding factor may well be how we play tonight with Colon pitching. If we win that's a 1 1/2 game deficit. Maybe just maybe the Tigers will pull a miracle, plus I think the Indians can play the Twins close. The Indians and Tigers have nothing to play for except pride and I bet they would love to take out the Twins. Let's see whether our team's pride translates into victories. Your not crazy and we shouldn't give up just yet. However, if we lose tonight chances are then slimmest-to-none.
-
Frank Thomas for one last hurrah!
-
I don't know how to call this game tonight. I do think Colon will pitch well and maybe only give up a run or two, but with the offense sputtering like it is we might not score at all wasting a Colon gem. Then again they might dig deep and fight back finally and score 10 runs in one game.

Reading Phil Rogers column in the Tribune brings out more info on how Manuel is viewed by others. The Twins for instance think he is their best weapon against the Sox. I respect Manuel for how he conducts himself, but he has made some rather strange moves. On the other hand how might we be talking about him, or the press corp if those moves had paid off. I think it is Rick Morrissey who wrote disparagingly about the Big Hurt in his column today. Frank is in for a lot of bashing now, but reading the game stories Frank references the Sox failure as everyone going up there to hit the long ball even with no one on base and "you can't change your approach now" or something similar. Frank is the biggest culprit because he is the one who publicly said that he was not interested in his BA anymore it was the homerun he was going for. I liked the old Frank Thomas who could hit 40 homers, drive in 125 plus runs, score a 100 plus and walk a 100 times a year. Maybe he just can't produce those kinds of numbers anymore, but a Thomas who could do close is still one of the greatest hitters in baseball. Frank was always a situational hitter/batter in my opinion and when he changed his approach the team and Frank suffered.

I watched the game on ESPN2 and had to log on to read the posts from game thread. The offensive display by the Sox has to be one of the most pathetic I have seen in a long time. I don't even know where to start. I am probably most disappointed in Frank Thomas. Mr. "I am going for more power" keeps popping up or grounding out. I see his average at .260 and maybe a point lower now. He hasn't done much the last few games, but then again not many of the players have. My only hope is that Colon can step up tomorrow and at least bring us back to 1 1/2 out. Anything can happen after all ...
