Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) But what if it's a guy that can't get on base against LHP? As our division stands right now, it's possible we'll have to face Santana, Liriano, Rogers, Robertson, Willis, Sabathia, and one or two other tough lefties in our division. We already have a 2nd baseman that can't face LHP and a DH that is below league average when facing lefties. Does anyone know how Fukudome is against LHP? I'd never seen the dude...so I've been watchin these (scroll down): http://www.armchairgm.com/Kosuke_Fukudome I like the one where he throws his bat (second down on the left).

Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers
Aren't the Marlins trying to get the city to build them a new stadium? Did they just give up or what?

Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers
QUOTE(G&T @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) Don't get your hopes up. There are 8 players involved and I can't even speculate on the paper work that might go into each player's movement (actually I have no clue at all). That said, it is odd that they haven't informed any agents or players. There could be a money issue with Miller. I wonder if the Marlins want the Tigers to pay some of that deal because it could be worth $7.5 million. Maybe...maybe not. Not sure about the ethics of this...but if that window is till open...maybe Kenny can keep the lines of communication open and possibly sweeten the pot a little. But in all likelihood...it's done.

Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) That's what it takes these days to add stars. You must overpay. If you're not willing to overpay, you will not get them, so its a waste of time targeting them. You're right, they have got to improve the farm system, so they can get guys either other teams want or that they can plug in cheaply and perform so they have money to overpay for great players. Very true. Kenny's out there with the garage sale mentality...trying to save a dollar or so. Doesn't work when you're going after a Miggy. As for the farm system...I was thinking things really wouldn't be that bad if just a couple of guys panned out better...namely Anderson and friggin Sweeney.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) If people are so insistent on believing that KW fouled up and we're screwed no matter what this year because the Tigers and Indians are so good, then wasting money locking ourselves in to long term, piecemeal upgrades is not going to solve that problem. Nail on the head.

Do we need a philosophical change?
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) The AL Central wasnt a power division like it is now. If we drop back into the 70s in payroll, we will need draft and development to get this team back. We dont do either of those well. Starting to draft some position players would be nice. I do like the fact they were proactive and signed some 16 year old latin phenoms. Why not. It's things like that that need to be done.

Has Kenny Dropped the Ball...Twice?
Kenny respectfully passed on Cabrera when informed by Clubhouse Manager Vince Fresso it was virtually impossible to get a Sox hat big enough to fit Cabrera's big fat head.

Do we need a philosophical change?
QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) and with Dye's comments leaking I'd imagine some of the players are getting there too. Sorry...but could fill me in on those comments? I must have missed 'em. grassy.....

Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) There are people out there that are upset about us not signing Hunter? Jermaine.

Crede close to going to Brewers
I honestly think Kenny is doing what I do when I'm drunk at the bar playin' darts...just hopin somethin' sticks. Almost akin to a Ron Turner offensive game plan...he looks at his list...calls a play...and prays it works. I just don't see any plan here at all. While I like the Quentin get...it's still small taters.

Who would you rather have as a bench player ?
I'll take Pablo for 500 Alex....

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) yeah, this deal doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a Diamondbacks perspective, IMO... I was gonna say the same thing. Why in a hurry to unload him? So you have your outfield set...why not hang on to him...or deal him for a starter.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) I wouldn't mind to continue dealing with the Diamondbacks next year or the year after and get Jackson when Thome leaves. Jackson would have to hit around .325 year in and year out with 30 dingers for me to want him as my everyday 1st baseman. I've honestly seen better defensive high school 1st baggers.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Jeremy @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) I think Josh Byrnes is a phenomenal GM but paying Byrnes $30 million over three seasons and jettisoning Quentin makes little sense to me. A lot of that was PR because he's such a fan favorite. I know you wouldn't think the teams honestly do that...but that was part of it. Don't get me wrong....I love Eric Byrnes and he was vital to that team. He was rewarded for his contributions...and plus...3 years of veteran leadership was needed with such a young outfield IMO. He was their Rowand.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) All things considered, Konerko for Jackson is probably pretty even. Jackson is an absolutely HORRIBLE first baseman....horrible.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
I love this move as well. A healthy Quentin will be a great addition and will hopefully solidy a corner spot for years.

Rowand not ruling out return to South Side
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) This part is of particular interest: Leaving behind Greg Walker, a man Rowand refers to as "not only the best hitting coach in baseball, hands down, but also one of my best friends," Rowand was forced to rely more on his own knowledge to make corrections with his swing. This bit of personal growth should help answer critics who point to 2007 as a spectacular anomaly compared to his past solid seasons. "During the last couple of years, I learned a lot about myself and my swing," said Rowand, who hit .309 in 2007, with 27 home runs, 45 doubles, 89 RBIs and 105 runs scored. "[in Chicago] I depended on [Walker] to watch and break down every one of my swings, and I leaned on him and depended on him too much, instead of learning a feel. "Milt Thompson is Philadelphia's hitting coach, and I have nothing bad to say about Milt whatsoever. But he doesn't break down your swing mechanically the way that Walker does. He's more of a feel guy than about mechanics with the swing. "So it's almost like I became my own hitting coach and had to make adjustments myself," Rowand added. "I'm already out swinging right now. Two months have gone by, and normally when I start hitting, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. This year, I feel like I'm right there still." That's the first thing that smacked me in the face. So...he leaves his buddy...and then his swing and offensive output develop nicely.

Torii Hunter signs with LAA Angels
QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) The Angels just confuse me, but I wouldnt be surprised if they have an outclause in Matthews contract if he is found to have officially taken HGH or steroids, and maybe they see this as an oppurtunity to upgrade old CF for old CF. That's exactly the first thing I thought of when I saw this signing. Maybe they know something's up or could hit the fan...

OFFICIAL: Sox Sign Linebrink - 4 yrs, 19 mil
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) We still Need I think Hunter and a legit leadoff man if we are really going to contend. That and hope our starting rotation turns itself around. I'm sure I'm in the minority here...but if Kenny deems Richar the opening day 2nd baseman...I honestly think he'd be a pretty decent leadoff guy.

Thome and Big Ben visit Hunter?
QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) They didn't visit him. They spoke on a video presentation KW showed him. Super. Did Kenny have a marching band and Benny the Bull too?

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
A lot of ifs here...but can anybody see ANOTHER deal with the Angels involving PK? I know they need/want a bat...so if things fall through on all their other fronts...it wouldn't surprise me to hear the PK to the Angels for Kotch and whoever.
