  1. I'm just happy the Sox finally have another pitcher in the minors who could be a potential stud #1. As happy as I am having Swisher...the cupboard felt kinda bare when DLS was traded.
  2. Geez...ASU played FIVE GAMES over the weekend. How the heck is that possible?!? They sustained their first loss of the season against Northern Colorado?!?...but bounced back to pound No. 7 UC Irvine 11-3. Leake went the distance to go 5-0. They open the Pac 10 this week against USC. They did receive a blow last week when reliever Jason Jarvis was ruled ineligible.
  3. QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 12:18 AM) That catch even made Joe Crede's ass pucker.
  4. I don't get how everybody thinks having Ramirez at second is going to be a disaster. The dude's exciting as hell out there. I understand his D needs a little work at 2nd...but damn. Personally I'd have no problem starting the year with him as our 2nd baseman batting leadoff. I know everybody's gonna say..."yeah..it's only ST. He hasn't the experience. It's too much pressure." But the guy has seemed to handle everything pretty well from day 1 and remember...it's not like he's 21 years old. I think surviving life in general, living in Cuba is about as tough as it could get...so I really don't have much doubt about him handling it. He needs to play.... A LOT. And I rather have him at 2nd everyday instead of jack of all trades, master of none floating all over the field every other day. He's one of the most exciting players the Sox have come across in quite a while...PLAY HIM!
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) Are these the same waivers Manny Ramirez was placed on? Is it a certainty if he's not claimed he will be released? Hence the word: irrevoccable
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) KW talked about a list of guys they wanted to acquire, and Cabrera was on that list. Plain and simple, he should have had an idea about whether or not he'd be an option prior to re-signing Uribe. If they really did DFA him today, I hope people will stop making excuses for KW and just admit it was a gross error. Maybe. Like Balta said...maybe the Halos said no dice at first and reapproached. Who's to know. KW doesn't reup Juan...he hits the market and signs elsewhere and where would that have left Kenny?...besides everybody calling for his head.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) To beat an offer of Gallagher, Cedeno and Murton? Jenks and Danks would both be too much to be a centerpiece. The cubs are offering two players that cant make their own team in the worst division in baseball and a future 5th starter. WAAAY too much. Bobby's not going anywhere IMO. You don't think they'd be interested in Thornton, Loogy or MacD...especially with the garbabe they've named as their closer. I'm still curious though why Roberts is held in such high esteem. I understand he's a very good player and all...but to ask a ridiculous amount means they aren't serious about trading him.
  8. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I know the O's don't have a ss, but I still don't see why they'd want Uribe. They're in a pure rebuild mode right now. The only use they'd have for him is to hope he has a very strong first half so they could get something in a trade. I don't think I'd pay almost $5 mil for that lottery ticket. Why not? Perfect one-year stop gap IMO for not bad money.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) Well, IF Owens does do that, he won't be traded, which means you've got to move Anderson or Quentin. Given that I truly believe both of them have much higher upsides than Owens, I think we would only hurt ourselves by dealing one or both of them. I understand where you're coming from, but I think you're not factoring in the psychological effect of putting Anderson and/or Quentin in Charlotte might have on them. Especially BA. If it were me, I would stick with what I truly believe in, which is that Quentin will be a very good player, thus affording me the ability to trade Owens at the very least and possibly Konerko as well. However, as we have said many times, there does not appear to be much of a market for Konerko outside of the Yankees, and I can't imagine getting any of their top 3 young pitchers for him. You'd probably get Austin Jackson and change. It's definitely a tough situation, but it's one I would operate with confidence from. Owens would be gone, BA would start the season in CF, Quentin would go to Charlotte along with Richar and Ramirez, with Quentin being the first one called up should Thome/Konerko/Dye suffer an injury. I understand what you're sayin' shack...but it just doesn't make sense to me to move Paulie at this point...not with the production you'd be losing in the lineup...especially just to clear some space for an outfielder essentially. This team would be better obviously moving Crede...but in addition to him any of the following are expendible IMO for the right return: Uribe, Richar, Owens, Broadway, Haeger, Thornton...and probably Logan (but I've really like what I've seen from him so far this year). I agree that Quentin's upside is too great to even consider moving him. And you're right...it is a tough situation...but one of strength which is nice for a change. That's why Kenny gets the big buckos.
  10. No 1 and 2 go at it tonight. Arizona at ASU tonight at 6:30 pm (8:30 Central). Not sure if you dish people can get it...but it's on FSNAZ. Not sure who's pitching for UofA...and I know Leake isn't pitching the ASU tonight since he started Sunday.
  11. QUOTE(spiderman @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) That Baseball Tonight would want a guy who can't speak in complete sentences, and has different pitches in his voice is very baffling. You're talking about the same network that employs Lou Holtz to speak on the air. Nuff said.
  12. I liken last year's Sox team to this year's Illini basketball team. Just not an over-abundance of talent...and when the losses started piling up...their heart and desire seemed to fade. As much as I'd like to see Paulie be a more vocal leader...I'm just not sure he has it in him...nor Thome. Hopefully some youthful exuberance will spark this squad.
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 23, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) if we dont get our starters to go deep its gonna be a long year....that pen is so young...the only guy who really has any experience at all is jason cunningham, and thats like 4 innings as a walk on after being the team manager... Cunningham came in today in the 6th...faced 4 batters...gave up 4 hits and 4 runs...the last the 3-run dinger by Wallace. Tough day for Vandy pitchers...they had to have over 10 walks today. That never helps.
  14. Man...ASU put the smackdown on today. I was VERY disappointed not gettin' to see Alvarez today. Wallace with a couple of impressive bombs (a grand slam and 3-run shot)...can't remember who had the other dinger. Leake looked pretty decent on the mound. Actually Leake is supposed to be their best shortstop...but they think he's too valuable on the mound. Kind of a sloppy game for ASU though. ASU had 6 errors (I know Ike had 2 over at 1st and Wallace had one). I don't think Vandy had any errors. Lots of new faces on this team this year. I thought I was told that Jason Jarvis (closer) was ineligible...but he was in uniform today. He didn't pitch...but he pinch hit. I wouldn't read too much into this game though....they could probably play 10 and split 'em.
  15. It's rainin' pretty steady out here in Phx.
  16. LOVE-LOVE-LOVE the Quentin deal. Really like the Swisher deal. Another unsung move that I really liked was bringing in Jeff Cox. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about any moves Kenny's made to this winter...probably the most disappointing was letting Fernando Hernandez go unprotected...but if that's the worst...I'm ok.
  17. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) Don't you love online translators: "Later than ever, now will be the fruits. " Seriously...what the hell does that mean?!? Honestly...what could it hurt bringin in Colon? Doesn't work out....C-ya. Not yer money...
  18. I love college baseball and actually get out to a dozen or so ASU games each year. I'm not a big fan of the new schedule rule at all though...even though I understand it. It really cut into the quality of schedule this year for ASU who usually has a series with Texas, FSU, Miami or somebody early on....not this year. I am gonna make it out to the DeMarini Invite this weekend out at Packard (vs. Vandy on Sat. at 1pm). ASU will be pretty damn good this year...but I'm not sure about the move or how long it will last moving Brett Wallace to 3rd (so basically Ike Davis can play 1st). It may work out though.
  19. Good thing they cut out the in the clubhouse. That probably would have pushed him right over the edge. I honestly think this is a non-story...but it does raise a few concerns IMO.
  20. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/col...%26id%3d3221365 Poreda at #67. No. 22 still pisses me off.
  21. I'm to the point of just hanging on to guys like Crede, Uribe and BA at this point unless somebody makes one hell of an offer. They could be very valuable pieces to acquire something pretty decent during the season.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) ^^^. So, just in advance, who do we blame when AA turns his career around and they move Papelbon to the rotation to make room for him? LOL...I was just thinkin' that Balta! Better than nothin....
  23. By far my favorite thing I've read so far. It was almost like a pep talk that's got me pretty riled up to get this this going! http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,6205423.story
  24. This is the one quote that got my goat... I'm really hoping this isn't the case...because if it is...jettison his ass off right now...RIGHT NOW! I honestly can't see that being the case because if Juan comes in and works hard...he very well could be the starter. Doubtful...but very realistic. But Ozzie would know him better than anybody...so it is a real concern IMO. I also got a kick out of someone demanding, "WE WANT ANSWERS!....." Puhlease....can you be anymore friggin dramatic.
  25. Good luck. He was always one of my favs. But....81-84 mph fastball. But hey...if he has good placement and mixes up an assortment...who knows. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...foulke0124.html
