Of course he's gonna say he wants that much. I'd take him at 5/$50M...though. Hell...he could get Konerko money...who knows.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) Could always see Garland and Uribe being shopped to the Pads for Kahlil Greene and others, unless I missed something and he was extended... I never have understood the Greene love. I'd rather keep Juan and have him in the 9-hole. One person I'd love to see KW figure a way to land is Wlad Balentien. I want some promising youth. He'd be steep...but I'm tired of this stopgap crap.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) Mine....ARod goes 2-17 and the Yanks are eliminated then NYC goes beserk wanting to trade his ass. Or a big O'fer.....that'd do it.

Kenny traded Rowand. Anderson was the closest thing to a major league-ready CF...in his eyes That's why he didn't give him up. But on the flip side...if he thought Pods could have manned center in the interim...he'd have given up BA. But then again...he didn't have another plan for LF then. Kenny backed himself into a corner. Geez-us....Kenny's handling of the outfield the past few year is reminicent of Angelo ignoring the O line. But hey...if KW would have done what I b****ed about for 2 years ago (sign Eric Byrnes)...we'd have an outfield of Byrnes, Young and Dye. but wtf........

QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) He was on the other side of the action, and Barrett's foot was blocking what he could see of that part of the plate, so he couldn't really see where Barrett's foot was (whether it was blocking the plate, in the middle of the plate, etc.). Given the quickness of the play, and just the situation in general, I'd probably have made the same call. But being here at home, it's easy to make the call that the ump was wrong. Well...he missed a lot of strikes too...so not a shocker really.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Hoffman blew the Saturday game and now this. He's blown some games in big spotlights lately if you want to count the All Star game. Hoffman was done 2 years ago. I'm surprised he doesn't get ripped every time he takes the hill. Good Lord...he really has nothing. Great game to watch though.

QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Is it worth pointing out how ridiculously wrong they were about the Twins? I mean, I don't mind BP really (I find some of their stuff interesting even if I couldn't get through 'Baseball Between the Numbers'), but this seems like a jackass thing to do, especially when on the same link that they predicted the Sox being 72-90, they predicted the Twins being 90-72 despite their horrid (in my opinion) offseason. Nah...not with showing how friggin smug...and jerkoffish all in the same little blurb. I think they pointed it out themselves without even trying....hoping people wouldn't notice.

Seriously. Thank god we've got the Bears....oh wait. GO BULLS!

QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) I think Kenny Williams should have been graded before the season, not after (unless you count midseason trades). He did get rid of Garcia, which is what many wanted, he got what should have been a better backup catcher which we needed. The problems he created were that he stuck with podsednik which is kind of like the cubs sticking with wood and prior, plus Williams went with a young bullpen instead of a proven vet pen. He also resigned Javy which many of us thought was stupid, but it turned out to be good for this year. I feel like before the season started that's how I felt, he address some big problems, but had some holes and took some risks that may not pay off, so I definitly wouldn't have given him an F, probably a C. You can't say that he should have expected Konerko to be hitting .258, Dye to have an average in the .250s, Ozuna to wind up breaking, and for everyone in Cintrons family to wind up dying. He could have suspected injuries from Crede and Thome, but with Crede he knew Fields was ready and Thome's too good to get rid of even in case he does get hurt. Did you guys give Kenny an F before the season started? I didn't. I didn't give him an A either, but I don't think it appeared as if he ruined the team before it all even started. Good call on the Toby Hall acquisition. Many on here were ecstatic when Hall was signed...thinking he'd be a great option to also DH at times...and I remember a ton of "the sky is falling" posts when he got hurt in ST. Now he's a friggin' bum and shouldn't even be wearing a jockstrap. Hardly KW's fault. Plus...how many at the beginning of the year thought this was one of the best bullpens in the game? When Aardsma came in and struck out the side with the bases loaded...you got the feeling this team was going somewhere....then...pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.

QUOTE(StatManDu @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) I like interleague play. I like the idea of seeing Colorado -- a team that we don't see (in the regular season!) that often. I do agree with the above exasperation over the Pirates. Maybe MLB should allow a team like the White Sox to have two natural rivals. Give us one series with the Brewers every year instead of one with the Pirates. I don't think anyone would mind seeing the Angels visit just once in order to sub the Brewers. As for the Brewers, their natural rival is the Twins. I don't think they would mind one series against the Twins and one against the Sox. Just a thought That's what I've always thought..interleague should be about geography. On the Sox schedule should be a rotation of (always the Cubs) St. Louis, Milwaukee, and possibil Cincy.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) The Fans: Why the heck are we grading the fans? Hawk: C- DJ: B Ed: D Chris:C+ Nancy: B- Wondered when somebody was gonna put Hawk on there. Hawk gets that C- for using the word "DAGGUMMIT" approximately 1,568 times this year. DJ: Only reason I'd give him a B is for the week he took off and Stone replaced him. The fans should get an A+ just for showing up past July.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) He can't sue. I mean, he can, but I doubt he wins anything. Maybe he should see the people that made his body of glass. Dude...some old lady got what...$350K from McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on herself. Never underestimate the ineptitude of the judicial system. -

Is Bradley a FA at the end of the year? Man...if he's out 18 months and can't play next year....you don't think there'll be a huge law suit somewhere down the road? -
Bag on Bradley if you want...but it's also's Winters job to keep his mouth shut too. Interesting to see who started talking crap down there...and what was said. If it was Winters...I'd like to see him suspended for a good month. MLB umps are just a little too big for their britches for my tastes. Be interesting to see what comes out of this.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) We do know that nobody was willing to risk eating the contract by putting in a waiver claim less than 2 months ago, and that nobody was too worried a team they would be battling for a playoff spot could possibly pick him up. And a couple of those teams I think are rethinking that decision IMO (Mets, Brewers) after seeing how he's finishing up.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) Thanks for the vids. If anybody has a highlight video of the 1977 White Sox, I'd love to see it. Just had a nice little piece on the South Side Hitmen after the game. That was pretty cool...and I remember a lot of fun too. But GOD....those uniforms!

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) I know, the Sox are in 5th place, not 4th..... For once. Usually they are the doormats of the division year in and year out. The Sox are 2 years removed from a Series title with good (supposedly good) talent. I really think you're fixated on the fact...sure the Sox are in last place now. Has that EVER happened in the past 10-15 years or more. This year could be writtin off as an aberration. Why wouldn't he leave? Last I knew...NY wasn't Tahiti. Why not? Kenny wants to make a big splash IMO.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Thats fine, but you have to look at from the view of Alex, not the White Sox. Why would Rodriguez want to come to the White Sox? Alex has been slammed repeatedly in the media for not being a winner, and not being able to take the pressures of high intensity situations. How would the image of A-Rod look if he left NY, and signed with a last place team? The fans, and more importantly, the media, would never let him live it down. On top of it, if NY were to win the series this year, why would Rodriguez leave? He would be loved in NY, and I have to believe at that point George would pay just about anything to keep him around. With the ego A-Rod seems to have(not a bad thing) I just can't see him ducking out of NY to sign with a last place team. I see what you're sayin....but it's not like he's signing with the friggin Royals or something. Your scenerio is based on ARod and the Yanks winning the series. Mine was if he had another subpar ALCS or whatever and typical NY fans would turn on him in a heartbeat. Why'd he go to Texas?
-
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) I salivate at the idea of A-Rod on the Sox. That would be like a shot in the arm to this franchise. Yeah, he's expensive, but he'd be worth it. As far as the Boras thing, how long is that going to drag out? Are we really going to deny ourselves all Boras clients from now until whenever because of some personal feud? That's cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'm actually looking forward to ARod having a miserable playoff (again)...Yankee fans start booing him relentlessly...and he simply wants out of NY. I personally think he'd be well worth the money...plus...don't you think just having him on your roster would push (from an ego standpoint to do better) guys like Pauly...Dye...and infuse some of the youngsters like Fields. The only guy I could see having a problem with ARod is AJ...not sure why though. If ARod's available...I sure as hell hope JR goes after him hard. Like someone said earlier...it's not like JR hasn't paid for the best player in the game before. I also think ARod would LOVE the move back to short.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) If Ozzie deserves an extension now, then he deserved it at the beginning of the season. Even if he is completely blameless for this season, he still hasn't proven anything. The only reason I can think of to give this extension now is to make a statement, some statement, which is a terrible way to run a team. Not really. If that statement is based on perception that Ozzie is being tuned out by the vets...it's letting the team know that Ozzie is here to stay and if they have a problem with it...get with the program or voice your displeasure and we'll see where we can send you. Do I agree with that. Yes. The other reason could be for stability and not having that, "will Ozzie be fired" tone the whole offseason...which would probably not be a good pitch for potential FAs. Stability is a good thing. Stagnation is not. And this team is completely stagnant. Again...I'm not saying I agree with the decision at all....just voicing some reasons why it possibly happened at this time.
