QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) Find a new thread to rehash the same old Freddy for Floyd junk. This thread is about me pleading to keep Mark Buehrle!! My loyalties lie with the Sox and that will never change, but I've really taking a liking to Buehrle. I just love the way he goes about his businesss. He's just a regular guy that can pitch. I like to root for him. I want him to do good. There really aren't many players I feel like that about. I mean, I want them to do good cause they're on the Sox and I want to win, but I can give a s*** about them. I feel good rooting for someone like Mark. I actually feel bad for him when he has a bad outing. I don't know, it's hard to explain. Take Zambrano for example, if he was on the Sox, I wouldn't feel good, about cheering for him. I would, cause I want the Sox to win, but I wouldn't like it. Same for someone like Manny Ramirez. These are talented players, but I can't stand them. It's like selling your soul to win. This guy is a total jagoff , but he'll win you games. Man it's just hard to root for guys like that. Mark has that "it" quality that a lot of people relate to. I don't want his contract to hamper the team for years to come, but if they could get something reasonable done...I would hope they would. Plus...you need to have at least 2 quality starters for your team to build around...Mark being one of them IMO. Whether they keep Garland that remains to be seen. But I'd be happy building this staff around Mark, Garland and Danks for the next 5 years. Mark's a horse...and has been the face of this staff for quite some time. It'd be a shame to lose him over a few mil.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) I'll give you your kudos - I do like to argue, but that is besides the point here. How is he covering his ass? Am I supposed to believe that a fan such as you knows more than these coaches and the White Sox management? I surely do not believe that. You can believe that if you like, but you would be sorely mistaken. There is a reason why you are not part of a major league team or management team - because you suck ass at everything baseball except for watching it. Greg Walker has asked me to marry him, but no, I am not his wife. I had to turn him down because I am not into that kind of thing. Because you were wrong and you can't argue it. Try looking at the entire statement and it all ties in. Thanks for playing big guy. Just because you gave up on the season does not mean they gave up on the season. It may look like it when you have a bunch of rookies and benchplayers playing in the replace of starters, but I can't imagine any ML baseball player has it in him to just give up and lay down. I don't think you can make it that far if you have that type of attitude. OK Mrs Walker....where does this team go from here?!? Gut the team...right!??! YOU seem to have all the answers.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) He has had one good game. Let's ask for a bit more before crowning Fields the King of 3bmen. I would still like to see him in LF and Crede signed for 3 -5 years I love how some of you read into s*** all the time. Did ANYBODY say King of 3bmen?!??!...no. Crede with a bad back, Scott Boras...and attendence about to go into the crapper for having a below average team...signed for 3-5 years? Pffffffffffffft.......K.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) Good to see the offense actually do something, great game by Mark. I still don't know why Ozzie didn't pinch hit Thome for Mack with the bases loaded. I'm not sure why Thome wasn't playing 1st. But who knows why Ozzie does anything anymore. Say hello to our next 3b for the next 5 years.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) It was answered dude, it doesn't bother me if you find it or not. That is totally up to you. Find the thread that you asked it in and you will find the answer. It is there. It really isn't my problem if you ask something and then don't look for the response to it. Why would I answer it again for the same thing to happen? So then you think Walker is telling and teaching veteran hitters to lift and pull everything? I have seen and heard him say completely different. That is not the style he teaches from what he says. He has said many times that he wants the players to take the ball the other way and up the middle and not to worry about home runs as the home runs will come naturally. So how else is Walker supposed to go about this? What else can he do? You have to blame the hitters. As far as business - business and sports are completely different. Are business managers and CEO's allowed to wear hats and chew gum at meetings? How about spit sunflower seeds all over their office floors? Plus - no - exisiting personel is not always kept. If a new CEO is brought in the new CEO weeds out the unproductive people and gets rid of them. Not the whole team - of course not - but you can't keep looking at some of them hitting for power only and let it continue without doing something. Ya know...all you want to do is friggin argue. You have your views....and EVERYBODY else has theirs. So if you buy what Walker says on air...good for you. IMO...he's covering his ass. Bottom line...NOBODY is doing their job...and that INCLUDES WALKER. I'm actually starting to think you're Greg Walker's wife or something. BTW...that's an AWESOME point!!!! Ya know what comes to mind with that statement: http://frogstar.soylentgeek.com/wav/bmwrong.wav

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) How do you want him to fix it? Are you suggesting he isn't going through tape with them or working them out in the cages? Are you suggesting he isn't telling them to do different things? These are veteran players with those swings. You fix it by getting differen players in here with different approaches. Uhhhhhh...by altering their plate approach. By maybe getting them to take the multitude of outside curveballs and fastballs they've been seeing now due to scouting reports saying they can't do s*** with them, to right field. Obviously whatever he's been going over with them is either one of two things...Sox players are either 1. dumber than a box of rocks or 2. too stubborn to change. Do businesses keep managers and ceo's that can't right a business ship? No...they're fired and replaced with somebody who in turn can produce results with existing personel. It's not feasible to strip the whole team. Just doesn't happen.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) THAT is a good question. What's a good question is if he's not teaching it...why isn't he fixing it? That's his job.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) I think coaching changes make more sense when you have younger impressionable players. When you look at the White Sox roster, who exactly is going to start taking new lessons from a new hitting coach? I think with a veteran group some times its better to stick with your guns, because atleast you keep the team mentality. They are all sucking together, and they all know that if they keep going down this route many of them are not going to be here much longer. Its not an "I" thing, its a "we" thing. Good point...goes with the adage "can't teach an old dog new tricks". But it does send a message as to being accountable. Hard to say with some of these guys though. But then again....you have new guys up like Fields, Owens, Terrero and Sweeny in the wings. Maybe not a bad time to infuse some new life and send that message. I'd give my left nut for them to bring in Carlton Fisk as the new hitting coach...and groom him as Ozzies replacement eventually.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) Jesus, man, how about this: develop some players, reward the guys who have done something for the team (not those you think MIGHT), and stop b****ing about the world as it is -- just deal with it. Agree with the develop some players...but starts with DRAFT some players. BTW..."stop b****ing about the world---just deal with it?!? Didn't you just have about 5 post b****ing about Vazquez? QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) You may have missed my many offseason posts about picking up Josh Hamilton and Hideki Okajima, along with my prescient posts concerning how we should pick up Ramon Ortiz and Jack Cust and release them after a few weeks or a month. I also said something about trading for Jeremy Guthrie -- once he starts to suck I'll let you know when I said we should release him. Need some time to look for those... Yeah...I wish I could refer to my posts before last year wanting Eric Byrnes...only to get met with the "woohoo more grinders" reply.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) Like death and taxes and, oh, mediocrity: ladies and gentlemen, our pal, Javier Vazquez! Puhlease...blame Vazquez!....brilliant. Vazquez is FAR from the problem with this team. Kenny should be officially on notice. How he's handled everything from the minor league system, the outfield, Crede...he's actually making Jerry Krause look not too shabby.

The whole thing is friggin stupid. Eject him...fine. They want to "protect the integrity of the game"...but put a completely inexperienced person out there to ump. How goddamn ridiculous is that?!? Friggin oversensitive rabbit ears. What if it was a completely crap call the ump made?!?
-
I didn't want to start a new thread on the main board for fear of being pelted with rocks....but GODDAMN KENNY....it's ok if you draft a position player every now and then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) f***ing Detroit is just stacked right now, this is what happens when you have balls Absolutely disgusted right now. No nards whatsoever KW. Inexcusable IMO. Best pitcher on the board there for the taking and KW takes Sisco Jr.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) I don't like this pick. You need to have multiple pitches to succeed in the majors, and from what ESPN says, his secondary stuff isn't that good. I know that people seem to love the hard throwing pitchers, but personally, I'd rather you knew how to pitch with multiple successful pitches. but...but...we have Yoda Cooper.
-
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) If they pick him it might be as a CF. This is a guy who has already had arm tendonitis which is a red flag to me. I agree...whoever takes him it'll be as a position player IMO.
-
One guy I haven't heard anybody mention (or maybe I missed it) is Tim Alderson. Dude got some size and throws heat...and has a nasty curveball. I've probably seen him pitch 9 or 10 times the past 3 years of HS and he is tough. Got a good head on his shoulders too. His fastball (mid 90s) doesn't have quite the movement you'd like...but overall I really like this kid. Big kid 6-7". If he doesn't go in the first round I know he's committed to Oregon State.

Here is another reason KW is hemmed in, 2009 FA Class
Wanne replied to caulfield12's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Kenny's backed himself into a corner with his philosophy of continuing to use most of his draft picks on arms. Then when he makes a deal...it's for more young arms instead of possible replacement for positional players. He's completely ignored the position players and any impact hitters. He's made his bed. It's as simple as that. Like everybody on this board has been saying...this all falls on KW. -
Mike Lowell for Third Base next year?
Wanne replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
IIRC didn't Fields have a pretty major tragic event happen to him last year (best friend getting killed or something to that affect)...that really messed with his head for the better part of the season? Fields is the future of this team at third and will be fine at the dish given time. Get used to it greg. Hell...I'd take him right now over Crede. -
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 07:23 PM) I take back what I said about this ESPN broadcast being refreshing, they have talked about the Yankees 95% of the time. Shocker.

Aaaaaaaaaah....the ever so tasty Erin Andrews sideline!!!!!

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) A seven headed pig might fly out of my ass before KW makes that big of a change during the year. Here ya go bud...just to help with that pig.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) 2007 offseason- 1) Re-sign Buerhle to a 4 year 54$ million dollar contract. 2)Sign Aaron Rowand to a 2 year 11$ million dollar contract 3) Sign Luis Castillo to play 2B and to replace Gooch as he walks via free agency 4) Sign 2 'Reliable' veteran relievers for the pen. 5) Let Masset and Gio battle it out for the final spot in the rotation. Your younger and hungrier Chicago White Sox Owens RF Castillo 2B Thome DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Fields 3B Rowand CF Uribe SS Sweeney LF Rotation: Buerhle, Garland, Vazquez, Danks, Massett or Gio Pen: Jenks (CL), Thorton, MacDougle, (3 free agent veterans) Okay i got bored sorry! If Jerry Owens is our starting RF next year...KW should be shot...period. There HAS to be better options than him available...especially with the impending FA CF class coming up.
