Great showing from the offense. Nobody really going for the longball, just hitting it where it's pitched. Lift and pull, it was nice to know you.

Lowe has been making some amazing first pitch strikes. Our approach has been amazing today...dare I credit the hitting coach?

That's a gamechanger right there. Stay hot, Rios. Continuing to be the most robbed man in baseball. Thatta boy AJ!

GOD DAMN IT!

I love watching this team of ours show up for big games.

Nice job by Dunn adjusting to the pitch.
-
Perfect approach! Take sinkerballers the opposite way.

Derek Lowe - .286 opponents' BA regression time!
-
Not real sharp, but always able to make the big pitch.

First pitch ball? "f*** !!!!!!!" - JFP

Peavy has engaged the angry mode

Peavy always makes those movements with his arm after pitches early in the ballgames that makes it look like he's trying to loosen up his lat.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) White Sox offensive ranks now... 7th in Runs Scored 6th in Homers 5th in SLG 6th in OPS AL or MLB?

UZR is a pretty freaking good stat. As said, it is not meant to be evaluated on a season by season, month by month kind of basis.

I think Gordon Beckham is just immensely important as it pertains to evaluating our organization's ability to produce young players. If he turns out to actually be a good major leaguer, everything changes. He's running out of time to show us what he can do. I think he might be turning it around, though....he looks great, that BABIP is shockingly low....I think big things are coming.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) If that is the case then the Sox case looks better as they get to claim guys like Gonzalez and Hudson. It doesn't make your drafting look better, but it shows savvy on the part of the GM as well. I consider any player you acquired before he was clearly an MLB player a "system" guy. If he had to get better to make your team, that makes your organization look good. Even Humber is a borderline example of this, since he seemed to be fast-tracked for AAA when we got him.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 26, 2012 -> 10:25 AM) Look at the Sox attendance historically and they've never drawn in April/May when they weren't very good the season before. Unfortunately for them most of their choice home games are early in the season which is one of the reasons I'm sure they had such a drastic payroll cut. As far as attendance goes, this year is all about shoring up and growing the season ticket base some in what remains a very tough economic climate. Sox fans seem to do a good job showing up when we're really in it. We just have to [stay] in it. If we don't make a playoff run, I don't expect attendance to be good. That's what happens when you rebuild, so I'm sure the Sox are prepared for either outcome. QUOTE (Cali @ May 26, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) Peavy has pitched pretty much lights out this season, and Cleveland is down three guys who usually mash vs. the Sox. So he should be good. It's all a matter of can the Sox get to Lowe early before the sinker starts sinking good. Gotta get it up. If they're pounding it into the ground early it's gonna be a long day.... Dunn in particular seems to do a very good job of getting a big shot off of starters before they're sharp in the first inning.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) Especially with this Dynamic Pricing model which makes buying tickets the day of the game like paying scalper's prices to sold out games, yet there will be close to 10,000 unsold tickets. If you're someone who only goes to games a couple of times a year, you are probably not going to be choosing April or May dates well in advance. Way too risky in Chicago. The dynamic pricing has kept me from going to games. My ability to be in Illinois was rather unscripted so while I'd love to just decide to drive up to Chicago and see a game, the ticket always costs a fortune.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 26, 2012 -> 02:03 AM) I've been looking at the name "De Aza" and knew there had to be a more obvious nickname with a Z sound that describes his style. It finally hit me . Pizzazz ! I would have thought he'd be the real fun kind of guy... but then they had that postgame interview after the grand slam and not a good soundbite was had. "I try to hit ball hard" His English was about as eloquent as Sammy Sosa when someone says the word "steroids"

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 26, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) I would not be surprised to see AJ come back next year with another two year contract. If being competitive is the plan, AJ will be back. I assume for roughly the same amount of money...I'm not sure if it matters how well he hits this year, I don't think anyone is going to pay a 36 year old catcher a ton of money FWIW, I will make no bold statements about the Santos trade until we know that he is healthy. May have traded damaged goods over there (Sirotka come to mind, anyone?)

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 26, 2012 -> 01:20 AM) Yup. Like anything that has to do with statistics, the larger sample size the better. Soriano's UZR this year is the perfect example why a 50 game sample size is completely irrelevant. Basically means he made a handful of nice plays that have skewed the average so far

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 26, 2012 -> 12:48 AM) Ramirez is a gold glover. Rios is just an idiot defensively. Way too many dumb plays, usually as a result of being way too lazy. Rios doesn't really make dumb plays anymore...only seemed to do that when the entire team was dumb.

Jones is an absolutely AMAZING talent.
