2012-2013 NBA thread
If Meyers learns to stay in the post and be physical, he has immense upside. His ability to block shots alone will keep him in the NBA for quite a while. Being a 7 footer that can run and jump is a pretty hot commodity and the fact that Meyers has some back-to-the-basket game and a jumper that he might make when left open made him into a good late lottery pick.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) He was good though. People love lamenting a deal that brought us the starting DH on a World Series winning squad

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
I'm still not drinking the Axelrod kool-aid. I'm thrilled with how he did yesterday, but I need to see him throw more strikes and pitch with a bit more confidence. He's surviving right now nibbling on the outside of the plate , never throwing anything straight or in the zone with 2 strikes...but eventually that's going to burn him. Maybe that's not the way he normally pitches.

Rios!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) That is said around here quite a bit and I just don't buy it. He was a great, great player from 2006-08 - the Jays didn't give him that huge contact based on one season. He was having a bit of a down year in 2009 when the Sox claimed him, and then everything went south when he got to the Sox for whatever reason. He was good in 2010, and then he looked absolutely horrendous last year and because his swing was so tight, choppy, and mechanical. Not only is he standing straighter this year, but he looks smoother at the plate too. It really isn't a coincidence that when Rios plays well, the Sox play well. There have been a ton of other contributors this season as well, but he's as valuable, if not moreso, than anybody on the team when he's playing well. There's really no logical reason to be an every other year player. If someone could provide a cause for why he has had this go on in the past few years, I might take it more seriously. For now, I just can't.

Hector has an adequate curveball, it's just inadequately controlled. All of his secondary pitches are okay, but never calling for them makes their ineffectiveness into a self-fulfilling prophesy. This is why he should be starting in AAA

Not much you can do when all of your good hitters don't get the hit you need

Dunn fared much better than I expected

With his set up, I don't know how he'd ever hit that pitch

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:04 PM) Not the way he's currently swinging, where he's not getting his arms extended and guiding the ball to right. He's barely hit any balls to left field of late. When he went on the tear a month ago, he was driving the ball to left. He only needs to pull when the count/pitch favors it, which is what he was doing when he got hot. Right now his pitch recognition is for s***, which is why his swings don't look good

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) Yep, needs to go back to trying to pull the ball. Trying to pull the ball is the reason he was in a 2 year slump. The good Gordon goes the other way and does so frequently

That should be it for Dylan

Dayan should play as close to every day as possible. I think Gordon is going to be okay....but if not, sayonara

ADA didn't make the play, but let's not act like he did poorly. A perfect jump was the only reason he even got there.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) lol, we have the fastest 1,2,3 innings ever. Thats what happens when you swing at the first pitch eh? I'd rather see an aggressive 0-0 approach than the long standing tradition of taking a meatball strike on 0-0

Why Is Dan Johnson Still at Charlotte?
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) Except Danks hasn't really been good for a long time. And by "good", I mean better than a fourth starter. lolwut 3.77 ERA, 778 IP in the past 4 seasons 4th starter that is not
