This is like when a college team signs a top recruit's older brother. Sure he might not seem worth it, but the person he's close to will be.

Looks like the Sox are giving him a chance to prove that he is a changed man - nothing at stake here. We're not even letting him in Major League camp to potentially screw up and sour the team chemistry.
