  1. While some suspect Andro could be harmful, I don't feel that they ever conclusively proved their were sufficient problems with the supplement. I think it seemed like politics to me. It was a great weight trainign supplement too, I really miss it
  2. Maybe he isn't in the affadavit. If he is, then his denials make him look terrible. We'll see. One person said HGH isn't AS harmful as steroids. That begs the question of how harmful they really are. Is it a highly dangerous product or is it a weak banning like Andro. And by that I mean that Andro was nver really proven harmful but was banned more or less for political reasons. I'd be curious to hear if anyone here has an above average knowledge of HGH and could explain it for us
  3. Rob M=great utility player and a superb 4th outfielder as a refresher. What he is not is an everyday CF'er. In fact, he would arguably be the worst in baseball should he stay there. Garland's contract is not an albatross but its starting to feel VERY heavy. We all just assumed that we could flip that $29 after this year for a star or stud prospects and use Mac but we might be stuck with Garland (or paying part of his freight) in any potential deal. I don't know if sending him to the pen is much better because the way he is pitching won't really help the pen either
  4. Yeah anyone who follows prospects knows that power is sometimes the last thing to come. Albert is a line-drive hitter and not a guy who is obsessed with hitting as many homers as possible. I believe he could already have hit 60 homers or more in a year if he would have been willing to K more and hit 40-50 points lower. Like Frank, he has always stayed true to his form. There aren't many athletes who's word I take, but Albert is one of them. When he says he has never taken steroids, I believe him. Plus, this rumor (and I love deadspin and have no problem with them posting it as that is what blogs are for) is that its several degrees of separation from Albert and even if Pujols trainer handed the stuff out, I don't know that ALbert would partake.
  5. My gut feel: We end up with Pods in center after July (not the best option but Mack isn't any better there) and we add a solid bat in Reggie Sanders. Sanders would help improve our offense and he's a good left-fielder. Overall our defense would drop a smidge but not to the point that it would be worth having or centerfielder hit under 200 (although I think he's so much better than he's shown). Getting Sanders would allow us to use Mack off the bench where he is MUCH more valuable. However, I think that Kenny won't be addressing CF for quite a period of time. We've gotta see if Anderson is going to solve this issue and he might. He better start backing up other outfielders today because that was embarrassing. It's nto like it was an easy play for Pablo. If it were routine I would have understood but it was a damn difficult catch.
  6. In their favor is that if they get better and more consistent pitching than they have lately (mainly Marquis and Mulder need to step up) then they can survive the hit on offense temporarily. They won't go 5-20 like the Cubs without Pujols. They still have 3 very good players on offense, a great manager and a deep staff with a good bullpen
  7. He was a bit ginger running around(although he always has goofy body language so how can you really tell) but 1B should keep him from having to sprint as much. I also think that is was a big psychological boost to the team to see Edmonds out there. It helps erase some of the bad feelings Albert's injury caused. It also sends a message to the whole team when guys like Rolen, Pujols, and Edmonds play hurt.
  8. It's amazing what some people think you cna get out on the market. Remember that the M's asked for Brandon Mac last year....for Ron Villone. It's a seller's market in the summer. Get your heads out your asses people (this is a nationwide fan problem too)
  9. Yeah hopefully its just a little discomfort and they are erring on the side of caution by lifting him. He's been really good the last few weeks so let's hope that he's healthy and back in a few days
  10. Yeah it sucks when you see a great player injured when he is in his prime. I bet he's back in 15 days though. He is more than willing to play hurt and he's done it effectively many times (elbow, plantar fasc...). How about Jim Edmonds sacking up today and stepping up to the plate by playing hurt because his team needed him. That was pretty gutsy of him and he played well. It's easy to forget as fans, but these guys are tough
  11. How awesome is Magglio? 13th homer today and his average is up to a robust 320
  12. Yeah Jimmy was starting to get it going when he got the injury. His average had jumped a bit. I don't see Mulder for Abreu because with only 1 starter (besides Wainwright and Reyes) locked up for next year, I can't see them making a 13 million dollar committment to an aging outfielder who isn't that good in the field (GG and all). THe Cardinals value pitchign too much to do this trade. BTW, for the guy who mentioned bourn and Golson, I had heard that Golson has not been doing well
  13. I don't know if coming back to Chicago is the right more for Patterson or Kenny Williams. If I were him, I'd try to stay in Baltimore or go over to the Nats where Jimmy Bowden would have wet dreams about having his tools in center
  14. It is no stretch to think that his resurgence has been aided by his return to the Cell. He rose to the occasion the way great ones do, like Ted Williams in his final AB or Ruth hitting 3 homers in a game in the final week of his career. I think he was so focused that he did great, and now he has his swagger back a bit. The weather certainly isn't hurting either. If Frank can go on to hit his 500 next year and the Sox make a postseason run this year, then maybe there doesn't have to be any bad blood outside of Frank and Kenny.
  15. IT's weird the way some guys get run out of Wrigley. I am not Moises Alou fan at all but he socked 39 homers his last year in Chicago and they let him go......for Jeromy Burnitz? For Todd Hollandsworth? THeir fans dictate far too much of what is done by the team
  16. Yeah the guy's power has never and will never leave him. Even as his body betrays him and his legs ache and his bat speed drops-the guy knows how to hit. He's strong enough and smart enough to still draw a lot of walks and to hit the ball out of the park. If he can get the old average up to 250 and hit 30 or so homers-he will have been a superb pickup by the Oakland A's
  17. Well to get guys like Liriano and others in foreign countries-you gotta spend big and you have to have a long=term committment to it. Not many teams recognize this and do what it takes. The Dodgers certainly have for years. Teams like the White Sox put their money into the big league payroll but not always into the farm/other countries (some exceptions like Borchard)
  18. As awesome as Mac, Papelbon, Felix,Cain, etc are-I think I'd take Liriano over any of them. So to answer your question about where our Liriano is-there are 29 teams asking/wishing/praying for the same thing
  19. He's a bum to me. Just a sickening lack of strikeouts. Not bad for a minor league FA though I guess
  20. Radio? Not in the Chris Singleton era my friend. Hawk can take away my enjoyment of a moment by over-slurping or saying stupid hyperbole. I don't let it bother me THAT much but it is mildly annoying. I don't think he should be fired but I'm just saying that he clearly isn't the announcer he was 5-10 years ago
  21. I think Chris Young is going to be a superstar but maybe not even in Arizona. With Justin Upton coming up in center and Quinten in one of the corners, it might not be a situation where Young has a good place to play. I think he's going to be a stud though. The real question is if they would have taken Anderson over Young. I don't know the answer to that. With hindsight everyone here wishes it was Anderson, but I think if we had taken a poll in December over who to keep more than most would have taken Young. You guys are right though that if Javy is good down the stretch then its win-win and we don't have to cry in our beers but Young looks like he could become one of the game's most exciting players
  22. Hawk has declined greatly the last few years in my opinion and I fear that a World Series title has only validated him (in his mind) even more. He says even more stupid s*** like the other day when he praised Cora for sending a guy who should have been out by 30 feet except Martinez dropped the ball. Everyone is "the best I ever saw" etc. Maybe Hawk should watch more baseball than the game he is calling so he would see more guys. I used to like Hawk but he annoys me greatly with the stupid things he says
  23. Nevin either aged quickly due to a lack of athleticism or he is one of many guys (Hidalgo, etc) that just sort of lost it the last few years and is open to speculation. WHile Koronka stunk today, he wasn't supposed to be significant going from the Cubs to the Rangers so hopefully the Rangers can grab another starting pitcher from the Cubs. I wonder if it will be an aging name prospect like Williams or Hill or if it will be a lower minors younger arm
  24. Caught the tail end of a conversation in the Rangers-Mariners game today and it sounded like there was pressbox buzz involving the Cubs getting Phil Nevin. Not sure what was sent back in return (is this part of the Koronka trade) or if they sent a contract back in return but Nevin may be Chicago bound. Sounds like too little, too late. This would have been a good pickup 4 weeks ago
  25. IF you look at positives, they have one maybe two useful players on their lineup (Dejesus for sure and then maybe you can salvage Buck or Berroa). Grudz and Sanders are good players that you can trade for B prospects in July. Same with Matt Stairs for someone needing bench help. As for pitching, there isn't much there obviously. The Pen has Sisco who seems really good, Burgos the same, and then you have guys like Runelvyis(sp?), Affeldt, and Macdougal who are all worth keeping around to see if they have anything. Greinke should be able to come back and be good in my opinion. The farm system has Gordon, Huber, Butler, and maybe-maybe Lubanski. I think that they have to start with dropping Baird and bringing in a creative gm. I think guys like Depodesta are overrated on a lot of teams but this is a situation where a guy like that might not be a bad get. You bring in a competent manager(they had one in Pena but it wore on him). They have to be willing to spend $50 million and they have to take Miller in the draft if he is their number one, not just the most signable guy.
