  1. I was opposed to Javy the reliever given his failures with the Yanks in such a role but lately he's been so good the first few innings that perhaps swapping him and McCarthy in roles might improve us in TWO areas
  2. I'd trade Pods or Anderson for Soriano but I will be VERY upset if we trade Brandon Mac under any circumstances
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) I only wish our players showed as much heart and enthusiasm as Zumaya did in the series. Yeah I really have a problem when a guy like Zambrano does it in like the 2nd inning or something. When a reliever doe sit in a huge spot, its understandable to me
  4. sounds like just pre-signing talk to me. Just trying to get extra leverage. Could backfire with PR though
  5. This trade makes more sense to me if it was Kearns OR Lopez. Both? Jimmy Bowden's wheeling and dealing came up aces this time. I thought Cinci managment last year more or less told their then gm not to deal with Bowden. I guess with the new gm doing so well this year they let him do his thing. Seems like a terrible trade for a contending team and Billy BRay is goign to need to become a star reliever for this to make any sense
  6. well if everyone they talk with starts talking to them about Maybin or Zumaya in the first 5 minutes, they won't make a move. That said, I think this year you will see more deals than a year ago when there were basically none to speak of
  7. in a large way, it did work out. If he shows up in Chicago 20 years from now, he'd still have a lot of fans
  8. Well let's look back in 5 years. THe Rays could have had Brandon McCarthy and probably another arm or two for Baez and Huff. Instead they took Edwin Jackson, Tiffany, and these two guys. It remains to be seen what will work in the end
  9. He didn't even mention it in his blog today. Either its so delicate now that he had to promis to back off (i doubt it) or this rumor is doa
  10. He doesn't do his blog on Tuesdays. That's probably the main reason
  11. The internet, aside from messageboards, has been very quiet about this today. I wonder why there isn't more smoke (espn or fox rumors sections, etc.)
  12. Believe the Dunn rumors. Big arbitration guy and I don't think that they love him too much. I don't think Griffey, in a pennant race in the NL, would acept a trade anywhere for now
  13. I agree that Dunn is not a super-fit in NY but there are two things to consider here. 1. Brian Cashman cares about getting younger. This is evidenced by his refusal to trade cano and Wang last year. Signings like Sheffield were always George signings. 2. Brian Cashman cares about OBP. This is Dunn's forte. To me, these factors lead me to believe this is the guy Cashman wants. Plus, he makes good coin for the small market Reds and has proven that he isn't good enough of a run producer to hit 4th. The Yankees could bat him anywhere from 2 to 7th. I just think the Reds are going to want guys that help them contend this year in return. Would Cashman to Wang for Dunn? Hmm
  14. I got a 30. Not many head=-thumpers though. I cleaned up on modern stuff and had my issues with pre=1960 stuff. Not surprised though. I read a lof of books but some were pretty challenging questions. The one I missed that I should have known was the original HOF class. For some reason, I thought CY Young was in it
  15. I agree on it being Dunn instead of Griffey. Dunn walks a ton and he has good slugging stats but he's worse than his statistics. He doesn't knock in runs. He just doesn't do it, even with decent on-base guys ahead of him. THat's why they had to move him to the 2 spot. He's not good in left either. If the Reds trade him, and I think they will only if they land something big league back (Jaret Wright perhaps) then it'd be a decent move. I do think that there might not be a great trading fit for Dunn though because one would assume that Dunn is more valuable on the market than Pavano and Wright and Wang won't be traded. THis is very interesting
  16. I'm glad the guys are hitting fewer homers. Those balls were so juiced last year I believe (recall Comerica is a pitchers park) I do think they juice the golden balls as well. Its not that big of a deal since its the whole point to see the balls fly out but its not worth getting excited about a specific number
  17. THey've shown a minor reluctance to add a ton of payroll lately (although Damon was one guy). To me, that means they might have to choose between adding a superstar right-fielder or a superstar pitcher. I think they will be in on Schmidt and the other FA"s too (although Schmidt is rumored to consider Seattle)
  18. Don't just assume Yankees and Red Sox. It's not like most Boras clients go there. In fact, Boras will often use those teams to get teams like the Rangers, Dodgers, Angels, Cardinals, etc. to bid up
  19. I know this year he said he'd sign with either NY team. Before I thought he'd become a Met. Now, with this Boras news, the smart money may be on the LA Dodgers (the same team that signed Boras client JD Drew)
  20. I bet he gets 5 with incentives that could nearly double it. He's now the Kerry Wood of relievers. High reward but the risk is crummy. I'd think he'd be a great fit in Atlanta. They are desperate for Pen help and want to take one last shot at a title next year
  21. Abreu is a better fit than Soriano. I'm not Mr. OBP but they really don't have enough to be passable. Vlad's reputation now exceeds his production. THey are desperate for an impact bat behind him
  22. I think Ozzie and Co. are going to have to get mor agressive with pitchouts. I called one on 1-1 from my couch earlier. This is where we miss Jose Nossek greatly for his sign stealing
  23. one could do MUCH worse than her. Good for him. I requeted an add, I'll post if he accepts. Looked like there were a few other ballplayers in his friends list although I didn't recognize them
  24. Yeah Big MO found a good fit. Actually, he was excellent in San Diego too but they fell for the memory of Mike Piazza who has been about the same offensively, worse defensively, and much more expensive. How bad do you think the Cubs wish Girardi would have been available after this year so he could replace Baker? Wow. Anyways, yeah you don't want to give up much for a backup catcher because he literally won't play in the playoffs but if you can give up a c level guy and improve yourself-do it
