I also believe that Phillips was out of options which was a big reason Cincy got him, perhaps for a PTBNL but I can't recall. Phillips failed every time he had a chance at a job and had a bad tude so I don't blame the Tribe but if there was every a change of scenery guy (us with Jenks too) it was Phillips. I wish my Cards would have looked at him over the dreck they have there now at second (although I like Luna)

You took the words out of my mouth with Lopez. It is worth noting Phillips hasn't drawn a walk yet which can be a red flag, but he's hitting 8th most of the time where you don't want a guy to walk in the NL. Great talent, a bad rep for attitude, but a classic change of scenery guy. All the physical tools in the world and now he has opportunity with no expectations which he had in Cleveland. hrewd, shrewd move by the Reds although now they still have to eitehr bench him or Freel once Griff comes back

Its wrapping up right now. ANy reports appreciated

Right but I think Beane might send back somebody like Calero back in the deal. However, usually you won't see two top players sent in a midseason deal with an expiring contract so its could just be Milledge and something else. The problem is that the Mets don't have much below Heilman-Pelfrey-Milledge to trade after the Delgado trade. Maybe the A's want to try to resurrect Phil Humber? I dunno. I think the Yankees would have to part with Philip Hughes and maybe even J Brent Cox to get Zito and I don't think Cashman would pay that price. I think they will target Clemens instead
-
I think Zito ends up a Met this year and gets extended. I think they deal Milledge and either Mike Pelfrey or Aaron Heilman for him. I think he'd be a great fit for an NL team

I'm not all that impressed. I think he has been aided by pitching on cold days with the wind blwoing in and he dominated in a pitcher's park in LA. I think his overlal numbers will resemble last year's in the end

Buehrle and Widger autograph signing today
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
DO you have to spend the $50 on clothes or is that just to get moved to the head of the line? I hadn't heard one way or the other on Jenks -
cool thanks for the info. I wonder if the Buehrle signing will have the same on paper restrictions with him signing anything

Buehrle and Widger autograph signing today
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I believe they will only sign your license. I don't know that for sure but I'd bet on it -
yesterday's game was spectacular but it wasn't quite as good as "The Pujols Game" in Wrigley two years ago I believe where the Cards were down 8-0 and three Pujols homers later, the Cubs had blown the game
-
So he'd sign anything? I know some of the other mbl players that do the toys r us thing are only supposed to sign a baseball. Not sure if thats enforced but I read that for the Yadier Molina one

2006 NFL Schedules Announced
Punch and Judy Garland replied to WilliamTell's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
yes it is the nfl network and its meant to piss you off. Clearly, they want to upset fans around the country (although I suspect in market fans will get the game on over the air broadcast although I could be wrong) so that you call your cable provider and b**** them out for not having the network. Then the cable company pays a higher per subscriber fee to the nfl for the privelege of carrying the channel. The fee will be so that the cable company makes no money, and perhaps loses money on the channel. Its the same deal with espn. They have to pay so much for the channel that its not a money winner but if they don't pay it, you go to directv. So its pissing you off by design -
2006 NFL Schedules Announced
Punch and Judy Garland replied to WilliamTell's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Why do the Cikings get 4 primetime games, because they got rid of a star? That baffles me, they didn't even make the playoffs. Hoping to see my first Broncos game week one with a roadtrip to St. Louie. Denver's sechedule isn't easy but its manageable. Home against the Colts could have made a primetime game -
Baez is probably as good of an insurance policy as you are gonna find. I wonder if they move Seo into the top set-up role or if they use Brazoban there. Perhaps Jonathan Broxton gets the call up. I think the Dodgers pen can weather this ok but now their pen goes from elite to merely above average or average
-
as per mlb.com. Bett grab Danys Baez in your fantasy leagues if he's still there. THe new-lok Dodgers have an achy Furcal and are an injury to him or Drew away from lloking like the old-look Dodgers of last year
-
Frank is a proud man. I think he's really out to prove something and I think he will. I expect a great year from him. I have Zito in my fantasy league but he had an awful start last year before mowing guys down most of the year so I'll keep the faith
-
I'm sick so I'll be watching solo. Hopefully its a good game either way. If not, I've got Sopranos TIVO'ing and I wouldn't mind catching it. People talk about it too much at work to go in on Monday without seeing it. It'd totally spoil it

Vitale's top 10 in 2007
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
the track record for dominant big men in the tourney is not always the best, you see great players like Shaq and Marcus Camby fail to win titles, but you gotta think that Oden might just propel Ohio State to a title. They should be fun to watch -
Sox Sign Jose Contreras to 3 Year Deal
Punch and Judy Garland replied to G&T's topic in Pale Hose Talk
25 homers and 90 plus RBI as a 25 year old third baseman. Those are good numbers. He's young but since he doesn't have a mullet he is not thought of well here. Watch Blalock surprise many of you. Its moot now that it seems that KW will just deal one of the starters for a reliever -
Sox Sign Jose Contreras to 3 Year Deal
Punch and Judy Garland replied to G&T's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How old is Blalock? Nobody ever talks about this. He's only 25. He still put up good numbers overall last year and would do the same at a htiters park like ours. He's inexpensive which is more than you will be able to say for Crede soon. He didn't hit lefties last year but it took Eric Chavez a few years to figure out lefties too. -
Carlos Lee To Cubs Deal Imminent?????
Punch and Judy Garland replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in The Diamond Club
Remember this: Hendry and Baker are in contract years. Hendry might not be willing to sit and wait for kids if he thinks he can mortgage a bit of the future for 06 success. I think we kind of all figured Lee would be a Cub sooner or later. I think he wants to be in Chicago and they know he'd mash at Wrigley -
Sox Sign Jose Contreras to 3 Year Deal
Punch and Judy Garland replied to G&T's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought all along barring a total failure as a team last year that we'd probably be best served keeping all 6 guys. I wanted to keep Jose more than Garland and now we have both. I tend to think that moving a Garland for a Blalock or someone of that ilk 8 months from now is the way to go. I swear to god if they don't keep Buehrle around past 07 then I'm taking a year off from spending any money on the Sox though -

I'm gonna get pissy if we trade Mac for Lidge in May after Clemens decides not to be an Astro. -
Its not an excuse because he makes more money than you or I but he actually doesn't make that much money for an athlete
