Javy is Ted Lilly with better stuff. He will alwasy tantalize you with his ability but he's not ever going to be what he should be. This is about the 5th straight year of waiting for the Javy breakout. At some point, you are who you are.

My buddy heard that Gale Sayers was going to be doing appearances all weekend. Anyone know where he's supposed to be? thanks

Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to spiderman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Dye had another monster year, I think he'd get 4 years 60 mllion despite his age although he'd be hut by a deeper outfield class next year than there was this year. Just to clarify, we are still a big market team? If I wanted to root for the Oakland f***in A's I'd wear green and gold. -
Notes from Phil Rogers' Sunday Tribune Column
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ernie was on the same USA team with Jeremy Reed if I'm not mistaken. They decided to not go with just young players for that team -
Broncos Darrent Williams
Punch and Judy Garland replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It's easy to say that he was in a bad spot after the fact but he was at a party on New Year's Eve. Who hasn't been out to a bar/club on New Year's Eve. Saying they need to be much more careful is putting the blame on the wrong party here. The douchebag murderer who was carrying guns at a bar is who needs to be dealt with here -
Broncos Darrent Williams
Punch and Judy Garland replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm a hard-core Denver Broncos fan and he will be terribly missed. He played with a ton of heart being such a little guy. His coach and teammates loved him. I know that some will compare this to the Tank Johnson thing about athletes being at clubs but this was New Year's Eve and its impossible to imagine this happening. Just a shocker to me. -
There are so many people on here who believe Kenny Williams can do no wrong. Its embarrassing. He follows up the Sisco move which was terrific with this awful deal. had it been one of our veterans it makes a ton of sense but not B-Mac. Just awful
-
even if its a little awkward to see him in green and gold, he hasn't embarrassed himself like Mays with the Mets. He's been terrific this year and I hope he stays in Oakland because he seems happy there

Normally I'd say now because one bad day against a tough pitcher could ruin it on a day when he doesn't feel his best but he's made it so damn far and through such a debilitating injury for a slugger that I think he probably will do it now. It's a fun stat like when Schilling went for more wins than walks (came up short I believe). If I recall wasn't Joe D really good at this particular rate?

Roy Oswalt Signs Extension
Punch and Judy Garland replied to redandwhite's topic in The Diamond Club
I thought AJ Burnett would set the market but now its Oswalt. Granted, most aren't as good as him but I bet you Boras now starts Zito negotiations even higher than this. Great pitcher and worth it for the first few years but it could look like the Kevin Brown deal by years 4 and 5 because you just never know -

McCarthy must be inserted into the rotation...
Punch and Judy Garland replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I did notice something interesting, although perhaps not that meaningful on yahoo sports. Vazquez, you would think from watching the games would have a great era for pitches 1-30. Not so much. He's been really good (if I recall) from 30-60 and bad everywhere else -
I am trying to find a site where they show a player's stats by the day of the week. I know cbs and yahoo do not go into that detail. Anyone know a site? I know the tv networks always have this so it hopefully can be had outside of elias

McCarthy must be inserted into the rotation...
Punch and Judy Garland replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Does 5.1 innings tonight prove they have secretly been geting him ready for htis on the side? Has his shoulder injury been a cover for the team while deciding which starter to demote to the pen? As bad as Freddy has been, he'd be crummy out of the pen whereas Vazquez could emerge as the game's predominant right-handed set-up man. He could be excellent in that role. -
Why can't real fans be negative
Punch and Judy Garland replied to BainesRules's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As good as the AL is this year I don't buy that coming up short is OK because the AL is so good. The reason I say that is because we are beating ourselves and playing relatively poorly at times independant of what other teams are doing. If we were playing well and coming up short, then I would have no complaints but thats not really happening -
Why can't real fans be negative
Punch and Judy Garland replied to BainesRules's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I can't wait for this season to be over just because I am SO tired of the phrase "Unlike last year...." At least when this is over win los or draw the 07 team can stand on its own wheras this team is discovering how hard it is to repeat -
there is no question that the fans have been really hard on them, although its not completely unjustified either. I recall Todd Hundley being dogges really badly but you are right that the boobirds have hit the black players hardest whether thats a coincidence or not
-
Obviously Cub fans in general terms are not racist but it does stand to reason that the less diverse a group is, the more ethnocentric it shall be. I know Boston is also considered a tough town for blacks, ar at least has been through many accounts from athletes/writers. The biggest factor is the price for these fans. Fans at Wrigley and the Boston Garden have to pay more to attend and if you look at simple socioeconomics its not hard to figure out that this is going to lead to a skewed layering of people. However, there is another big factor that accounts for this since some of the problems have not been at the park, and that is exposure. Teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs are the most popular which bring in the most people so it stands to reason there would be more incidents. I am not surprised that guys like Baker and Jones get hate-mail because race is still a troubling issue in this country whether anyone wants to talk about it or not. That said, I think Dusty is a bad manager independant of his skin color although I feel bad that he would have to endure some of this stuff
-
It was pretty much a given that the Cubs would sign Rafael Furcal and Brian Giles last offseason so I wouldn't hold my breath on Lee or Soriano. It Ramirez opts out to go play in San Diego or someplace, then they probably would make a huge splash with a Zito or someone
-
The Cardinals have dealt with Boras in the past so it will be interesting. Wainwright, Reyes, and Carpenter have 3 of the five spots pretty cheaply although they then need to sign bullpen arms too. I don't think the move to Boras here means that much because his last agent was a superagent too so this is a little different than most defections. Although, this does end hopes of a late season extension for Texas. THis might impact the eventual Teixera negotiations so that will be intriguing
-
I am still definitely in. If we make the playoffs, I don't feel we would lose. Obviously the trick is to do what we failed to do for this entire decade and even last year since we weren't in a heat with them, to go against the Minnesota Twins and come out ahead. I think we can

Tigers fans turning on Maggs?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
They want his old numbers I guess but thats not happening in Comerica. Great point about wearing down with the lack of recent full seasons, I think that is probably the biggest factor. They shouldn't really b**** right now though
