Larry Walker Retires
Punch and Judy Garland replied to CardsJimEdmonds15's topic in The Diamond Club
Another in the long line of examples of a man who's body betrayed him. Wonderful player though. No injury qualifiers there. You can make a case that he was the best all-around player in his generation when you factor in things that are hard to factor like baserunning, the way he threw in right field and the things he could do with the bat. Great player. -
Aparicio, Jackson to throw first pitches

I never thoguht of Bo but its not a bad pick. I'm sure if Harold weren't a coach it'd be his spot -
Mr. White Sox: Frank Thomas
Punch and Judy Garland replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Look at that wild Arizona game that we needed after getting pounded in front of big crowds at home. Frank was huge there. You are right about his contributions to a lead that might not have been kept without him helping to build it -
I believe Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Orioles have or will hire Mazzone. No link as this was from a message board

I'm not saying it wasn't a tough call but it was still the wrong one and it came uo at the worst possible time.
-
Cards got f***ed. It cost them 1st and second with 2 outs and Edmonds up. That would have been the situation if they hadn't blown the call. You get the feeling that its getting late early for the Cardinals

A: How did you feel about Contreras before the All-Star Break?-I felt he'd be 500 or so B: Do you think the Sox will view Contreras as a valuable part of the team after the season is over?-I think so C: Do you think Contreras will be trade bait after the season is over?-I think its very possible him or Garland is moved to get bMac in the rotation if they can't move El Duque. If you could get Teixera for either you'd have to think about it but he is a Boras guy looking for 100 million so I doubt it D: Do you want Contreras to be trade bait after the season?-Nope, I want him to stay E: Do you feel that Contreras could sustain this type of success, or do you think Cooper has caught the proverbial "Lightning in a bottle"?-I think he could be a 17-18 game winner for sure F: Did you think that Contreras was worth his contract when he was acquired?-I did not G: Do you think that Contreras is worth his contract now?-Compared to guys who got those cookie cutter 3 yr/21 million dollar deals last offseason-he is surely worth it

I'd vote for the Twins. I respect them as a franchise, even if I dislike them. I made the poll because someone insinuated that most (i think he said this) sox fans would root for the Cubs and I didn't feel that was true so I tested it

Who Would you rather have the Sox face
Punch and Judy Garland replied to LDF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(kwill @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) Yeah, I want the best team.. In fact, I want the cards when they are healthy so we can clealy show we are the best team!!! You would have to wait awhile for them to be healthy. Maybe they get Nunez back though. Too bad this is the third postseason where Rolen is out or playing very hurt (last year). Great player, he could use the stage to showoff a bit -
Cito was the guy I wanted the Sox to hire before 04. I hope someone will eventually give him another look. Seems a shame a champion like him hasn't gotten back into the game. He'd have been a good fit in Philly post-Bowa.

We'd have to face those big three but facing Lane, Everett, Burke, Assmus, etc doesn't scare me at all. At least not in our park -
Someone brought this up in another thread. I'll withhold my opinion to at least the poll unbiased and will state my case shortly
-
Isn't technically Tony La Russa the first Latin manager to go? He was born stateside so maybe that's the distinction
-
St. Louie had 4K tickets per game and I think their stadium holds quite a few thousand more. In that context, it would appear that our percentage of tickets available was higher.

I think too that since guys from Venezuela play winterball that they would be the favorites (DR too) in a March World Cup. I can't wait for the Cup. Well I can until the Series is over. Two weeks later I'll start to think about the Cup. It will be great fun

My sense is that Hawk throws out the ball at one of these games. The WHite Sox have to do this. Daley should get one. So should MJ. Nobody else besides Frank over Hawk. IF they don't do this, it will be very sox-like of them to blow this opportunity. THe crowd will go nuts if he is there.

Thanks for the kind words. I am definitely a regular fan, son of a school teacher. I just got lucky. I immediately tried for game 7 and asked for Reserved seats because I wanted to try to minimize costs from my Mom. If it does not go 7, it gets refunded. I knew it was riskier to go for game 7 first because there mught not be one but I'm an upside guy. Thanks again for the congratulations, I almost didn;t try because I heard that it was hopeless.

GAME 7 BABY!!!!! s***ty seats, UD reseved but if it goes to 7, I'm going! Got lucky and tried for game 7 first
-
Clemens was beat in game 7 last year. Just saying. Will Mulder and Morris come up big? Not sure
-
Actually Baggy is an excelletn baserunner in the mold of a Larry Walker. I think you are way off on the not being able to run assessment. He'd definitely DH for my team. He is the best option as PH'ing is relatively nonexistant in the AL park
-
Cards are tough at home, the have a big lift, and they did it last year so they aren't afraid of the situation obviously. I think that as long as Mulder doesn't meltdown this will go 7 for sure. Then you have Morris vs. Clemens with Marquis, Suppan, Carpenter, Pettitte, Backe, etc. all comign out of the pen in a crazy game should it get that far.

Where would he play????????haha

I'd rather face Izzy than Lidge, for sure. BTW, my tying run comment was abotu putting the tying run in scoring position as opposed to having it on first. With two outs-that actually makes a large difference. The only problem is that there are nothing but RISP sitations for Pujols because a run can easily be scored every time he steps into the box. Great game, high drama
-
I know this may be overstating things, but you may never recover from something like that if you are Brad Lidge. See-BK Kim
-
I think that they didn't walk Pujols because you don't want the tying run at second there. Obviously, it burned them.
