  1. I think that our guys will go in tonight ready to face the man Roger Clemens, not hte myth of Roger Clemens. I think we will scratch out 3-4 against him and it will come down to what Jose can do. My prediction: 4-2 Sox. Jose goes the distance.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) And since we're now so close...it's time for this one. (Thunder...x10) I was caught In the middle of a railroad track (Thunder) And I knew there was no turning back (Thunder) My mind raced And I thought what could I do (Thunder) And I knew There was no help, no help from you (Thunder) Sound of the drums Beatin' in my heart The thunder of guns Tore me apart You've been - thunderstruck Went down the highway Broke the limit, we hit the town Went through to Texas, yeah Texas And we had some fun We met some girls Some dancers who gave a good time Broke all the rules, played all the fools Yeah, yeah, they, they, they blew our minds I was shakin' at the knees Could I come again please? Yeah the ladies were too kind You've been - thunderstruck, thunderstruck Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck Oh, thunderstruck Yeah Now we're shaking at the knees Could I come again please? 3. Right but what I'm saying is that they won an award that might imply that they'd win the other award. Ichiro did, while the writers decided to just pick one award for Gordon. I wasn't putting them on par in terms of achievement
  4. Ben Gordon won 6th man and didn't win the ROY which is a semi-similar situation. Writers like to sort of split their votes like that and am surprised they didn't do that with Ichiro
  5. obp is overrated when talking about rookies because that tends to come with time, they shouldn't really be held to the same standard at least right away. I don't know who I pick. I'd probably go with Iguchi although Street was very good and Cano came up and did well at a time when the Yankees needed a spark. I don't feel that any of the four selections are unworthy.
  6. Don't taxpayers of his state foot the bill for those three years of him at that prison? I know that he's obviously na idiot that you'd like to see stay off the streets but I would be pissed to think that money that could go to keeping inmates from reduced sentences from overcrowding or tax dollars that could go to schools will be used for this guy to eat, etc. for three years
  7. Yeha you know the stat-people will be putting Kotsays name out there but my hunch is that Rowand gets a spot. I think the Gambler is shutout in the pithcing category because of missed tiem and that other thing. Could be wrong about that though
  8. BTW, we need to get rid of activist voters. If Japanese players shouldn't be rookies, change the f'n rule. Otherwise, go by the rules at hand-in which case Iguchi may be the man and Matsui definitely should have
  9. I've heard from smart people that Japan is AAAA. Obviously, there have been great players there that you will not find in the minors but there are abviously a large group of guys with great fundamentals but not great talent.
  10. congrats, have a great time and I'm sure the Hurly-Buehrle man will make it so!
  11. Right. I am aware of Mathis and McPherson and the others but how do they fit in on Boston? This is the same team that can't get Shoppach and Hanley Ramirez spots. Plus, Bill Stoneman doesn't really deal prospects. I think Boston would LOVE to have Kotchman but I just don't see any other realistic fits unless its something like Kotchman/Santana/Shields or another power arm
  12. Well as a sidebar, we are picked by 49% of users tow wint he Series, which means that 51 percent are wrong, but its a close series so I won't b**** there. I will b**** about only 45% of Massachusetts picking us. I would have thought we'd have impressed them by now!
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Vlad can be the everyday RF and if anything they should just unload Finley to the Red Sox and than either Anderson or Rivera or something can play CF while the other plays LF. Imagine this though Figgins Cabrera Vlad Manny Anderson Molina Rivera Kotchman Kennedy If you ask me thats one hell of a lineup and could take them places... although they might lose Molina to F/A so that could change things but still. That is a loaded lineup but what would they give up for Manny? K-Rod? Santana and someone else? Not sure the lineup could stay in tact if they made a trade. The ANgels just do not seem like they'd have a lot of regulars Boston would want, besides Kotchman .
  14. My way of thinking is that you cannot fairly evaluate a trade after 1 year. Using the Padres record in your argument is just not on point with the discussion. That said, we obviously have a disagreement here and I've expressed my point and considered your so I will let it go now unless you have something you wanted to add
  15. He gave them a pitcher with a better chance to winin October. He was great against eh Padres, he was excellent against the Astros in the gaem 2 loss and he was weak against them in Game 6. The move for Mulder didn't result in a ring but it gave them a better chance than they had with last year's rotation. If you don't recognize that, you haven't followed the team enough the last few years
  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) Come on Punch, take off the Cardinal shaded glasses. I just showed above that St. Louis paid 10x more than what they needed to for lower production. And I see what you're saying about Barton, but he was tearing up AA at 19 years of age. Barring career ending injury or something, this trade will be looked on as laughibly lopsided in the future, even though it went undoubtedly in the A's favor for year one. Plus, I don't understand why Oakland has to make the playoffs when considering their value gained in this trade. A strong team can make a s***ty trade and still make the playoffs while a decent team can make a great trade and miss the postseason. Doesn't make the stronger team winner of the transaction in my mind. I don't think that St. Louis regrets the trade seeing how they made the playoffs with Mulder. THey were not in a position to wait and see if Haren could win now. Shaded glasses? There is no helping your talk-radio mentality of having a winner and a loser in every trade and having to determine it RIGHT NOW. You are trying to sell this as Brock for Broglio and you are way off base
  17. Well Oakland was at hoem for the playoffs and Daric Barton had zero major league hits this year so I fail to see how it was lopsided yet.
  18. I wouldn't necessarily say its Griffey. That is inferred but it could just as easily have been Baez/Huff or Burnett. It sounds like he is guessing a bit
  19. Manny would go to the Mets but Beltran might not allow the trade to Boston. Anyways, I don't see why Konerko should impact Frank's return. Paul is not a DH and Frank is not a 1B. If its a money issue here, Frank will NOT make any more money than any DH we'd bring in. Carl Everett's act has pretty much worn thin this year so I see us trying to keep Paulie, telling Carl to see ya, and have Anderson/Gload/Thomas (obviously when healthy) playing or the OF and allowing one of the other OF guys a rest for a day by DH'ing
  20. I wish I could change it because of how much I respect him but that goofy ball thrown into the stands play with 2 outs keeps popping up in my head! I think Rolen will be back for a big year next year.
  21. I listed Rowand but it's hard to say. I guess the Pods one is a good point, but at least he can squeeze or avoid double-plays. I guess Carl is a good choice because he is hitting with NO power right now. He's turned into a slow, defensive liability singles hitter. I think we lose little when we lose the DH. I do worry about our pitchers executing sacrifices which their guys can do well.
  22. I haven't heard a sinlge soxtalk member say they will be there yet. Curious to see if they are.
  23. Is it normal to have an extra good giveaway for all world series games? Not that a goodie will make game 7 much better but its still nice
  24. I would still advise people that are waiting to buy daily passes to network for them now. Do you guys know how much Cub Convention passes go for on the bay every year? Its ridiculous. Win or lose next week you can expect that soxfest tickets will be soaring on ebay as the winter comes.
  25. motherf***er. I worry that scalpers might have gotten a lot of these banking on big attendance if the sox win it all. Oh well, there are nfl playoffs going on that I now won't have to miss
