  1. Nine teams with unfinished business from Rosenthal White Sox This would be the perfect team to take a flier on Bartolo Colon or another pitcher coming off an injury. Jose Contreras, who posted a career-high 5.57 ERA last season, is the No. 3 starter, and the unproven John Danks and Gavin Floyd occupy the Nos. 4 and 5 spots. The White Sox need better to compete with the Indians and Tigers. Youngsters Lance Broadway, Charlie Haeger and Jack Egbert all could contribute, but the White Sox's pitching questions are amplified by their plan to play Nick Swisher in center field. The Sox believe that Swisher improved last season and will benefit from playing in a smaller outfield, but let's not confuse him with Torii Hunter.
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) Come on now, we havent been gone that long You know Formentini is still schmoozin at the end of the bar and you can bet that they smoked in that place till the last minute before the smoking ban took effect I miss that place, it was so much fun I played at PK's the night of the Festival of Lights Parade. I had some Quatro's for the first time in like 3 years. I didn't see Jeff, but Kristin is still there.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) Has anyone heard the new Sigur Ros album? No, but I got the DVD, really cool. I saw them live about 2 years ago and it was an incredible experience.
  4. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) I actually just moved out of Ann Arbor, I just haven't updated my profile to reflect it. Right now I'm in Carbondale, but I was in Ann Arbor for like 3 years previous. I'm not a U of M student, I was born there, moved to Chicago, then moved back for some reason. I was very disappointed to learn that even though I was moving to the Sox's state, I wouldn't get Sox games in Carbondale. Doesn't seem fair to me. All of Illinois should show them. At least I have WGN. And B-dubs like I had in Ann Arbor. If you're 21 check out the Cellar. I'm not sure what it's like now, but the old owner was a Sox fan.
  5. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) If this has been covered elsewhere, sorry, but other than Hoyt Wilhelm, is Goose the only former Sox and Cub in the Hall? Johnny Evers
  6. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Yes they did. That's what lostfan and myself were discussing. Welcome to the conversation. Of course he is athletic enough to learn the position. That's not the point we were discussing, however. Thanks for the warm welcome. I only asked because I read this thread and didn't remember anybody saying that he would be a GG caliber 1B this season.
  7. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) Again, Thome had 10 errors in less than a full season (140 G). Billy Williams never had a full season at 1B, but his first relatively full-time work at 1B (65 games in 1974) he committed 9 errors in those 65 games. So I ask the question again. Where is this assumption that anyone can switch to 1B and perform immediately coming from? Did anybody make that claim? Fields is athlethic enough to learn the position. OMG, GREAT NEW IDEA!: Move Greg Walker to 1B defensive coach and get a new hitting coach.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22493399/ This guy is an idiot. I saw that, a lawsuit will be following soon, no doubt. Boy, if somebody could invent a little box that gave people common sense.
  9. So Kenny hasn't been on, or what? Has anything else been said?
  10. QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) "Tonight I'll be staying here with you" has got to be one of the sexiest songs every written. Are you talking about Dylan? I haven't heard many(if any) people describe his music as sexy. Although I absolutely love his stuff. I really like the I'm Not There soundtrack, especially the Hold Steady doing Crawl Out Your Window.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Can you give me a good reason why that would actually improve us? Well, I have never actually seen Quentin play, but from what I've read: Defense: The arm is average to above average for a right fielder. There doesn’t seem to be any lag in his arm after coming off Tommy John surgery, in fact many scouts have said his arm looks even stronger than it was before the surgery. He's not a burner, but he's got solid speed, certainly enough for a corner outfield spot, and he takes excellent routes, making many plays look easier than they already are. It seems to me that you would rather have your better defender in RF than LF.
  12. When did they get Carter, in the Haren deal?
  13. Does anybody think Ozzie would consider moving Dye to left field and playing Quentin in right?
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) I'm not that worried about what's coming back, I'm a little more worried about the fact that DLS is going out. I understand that. I kinda of think of it like this: If I offered you $100 in cash or a scratch off lottery ticket, which would you take?
  15. I have a feeling that even the people who don't like this trade are going to like having Swisher on this team.
  16. Not sure if this has been mentioned here yet, but in Kenny's conference call, he said that he told Swisher to be prepared to play most of his time in CF, but also added that his versatility will come into play.
  17. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) If Eggy and Contreras could put up those numbers, I think we will contend because our O will score this year unlike last. The Sox must have a lot of double headers scheduled to fit 193 games into next sesason.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) great, another guy who K's 100+ times a season. Did you bother to look at his walk total or OBP?
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Whining? I'm just sad that our fans aren't all that bright, and yes it's a bitter pill to swallow when I see the majority of our fans are wrong. I hope you have a good excuse after we finish in 4th again this year though. So do you think another GM would have been able to sign Hunter or Fukudome? Or would have been able to get the Cabrera trade done? I find it really hard to blame Williams for not getting those deals done.
  20. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) I'm just basing it off KW's quotes about how pitching won't be a problem. He singled out Danks and Floyd as being top starters. I'm not making that claim at all. Bob When did he say that they were top starters? That was not in the quote I read.
