i think buerhle is going to have a big year this year, and whether he will be with the sox next season is irrelevant. i think they will hold on to him b/c they will need him to keep them in contention.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 05:32 PM) Seeing as how there's no realistic middle infield replacements out there for the Sox, I don't see how this could possibly be the case. personally i would rather have cintron in there than an uribe who hits .232.
-
either way i think uribe needs better than a .250 average let alone a .232 average to keep his job this year. big year for uribe's future with the sox IMO.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) If Zambrano would 'settle' for a 5 year deal then I hope Kenny would be all over that and throw billions of dollars at Zambrano. no chance it happens. carlos will get some team (possibly the cubs) desperate for his services and pay him a ridiculous amount of money. if the sox even were to sign him you could kiss buerhle, dye, iguchi goodbye. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) The 2007 Free Agent List will be one for the ages! Guys like Ichiru, Zambrano, Buerhle (hopefully not), Dye (hopefully not), Iguchi (hopefully not), Schilling, Michael Young, Joe Nathan, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Andruw Jones, Jason Westbrook, Ivan Rodriguez, Freddy Garcia, Kenny Rogers, Torri Hunter, Jason Isringhausen, Omar Vizquel, Marcus Giles, Paul Lo Duca, Adam Dunn, Corey Patterson, Aaron Rowand, David Eckstein, Mike Lowell, Jason Jennings, Bartolo Colon, Michael Barrett (FU dude), and a whole bunch more....... I've never seen a list this good before... should be interesting to see what KW does with it. However, I did not see Mr. Cy Young Johan Santana. I think he is signed through 2008. having said that, i wouldnt mind a run at ichiro (probably out of the sox price range) or more realistically michael young!

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) It's funny that so many people are banking on a big year from Buehrle because he's playing for a contract next year and many of these same people say Uribe should have extra motivation to succeed next season because he's playing for a contract in '08 (though the Sox do hold an option) but you don't hear anyone use the contract year logic when it comes to Javy. He's arbitration eligible next season but if he does perform well enough in '07 he could be looking at a long term deal either from the Sox or a trade partner. that is an excellent point. i think this a HUGE year for javy and for some reason i think he is going to deliver. call it a hunch (or just call me crazy)

interesting read about vazquez and his goals for the season: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws

Dye: "It's about...finishing my career here."

What a class act! JD is one of my favs. i pray the sox are loyal to him and let him retire here. that being said, i also really want iguchi back as well. -
That Sucks! But thanks for the heads up!

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 09:56 AM) I feel like in the second hole Iguchi has been pressured into doing "all the little things" - in the lead off spot, he'd be able to swing more freely. Probably a non-issue because it won't happen, but Iguchi is one of the better hitters on the team, you don't bat Erstad/Podsednik first and second in the order giving them far more at-bats than Iguchi will receive simply because they have speed or are better base runners. Foolish, but that's Ozzie for ya. I think that is why he has to bat in the 2 hole. He appears to be the only guy on the team who can perform "all the little things"

how can the 2007 bullpen be better/worse than the 2007 bullpen? i assume you mean 2006 so that is how i voted.

Would somebody explain something to me??

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) The 2007 Sox will be just fine plus everyone is 0-0 and tied right now anyway thank you. there is no reason to "panic" before the season even starts. there are people on this board who think the sox can do no wrong and every flaw will be filled and there are people on this board who think the end of the world is coming and every flaw will end up being the worst possible scenario. calm down everyone and embrance the boys of summer for what they are right now. A baseball team that hasnt even reported to spring training yet! -
very nice! excellent work!

definately slimmer, but still old. hopefully hes got something left in the tank.

im with ya. I like 'em!

which current sox players will eventually be HOFers?
soxfan3530 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
i think thome is HOFer. outside of him i dont really see anyone. maybe a young player like jenks could turn into one but dont think konerko will have the numbers/. -
im down. 1. head to head 2. very experienced 3. no preference 4. would love to be commish but already commish in 2 leagues so i'll pass. Thanks! Go SOX!

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) If he just steals bases in those times, he can stay. Right now though, I'm trying to figure out the bench. Erstad Mackowiak Hall Cintron Ozuna Perez plus the 9 starters, and an 11 man staff - that's 26. Are they assuming Pods is going to be gone a while? Ozuna released? Cintron traded? Perez acting simply as insurance? Pods traded? (pleeeeeeease be #4) Because if it is #4, I'd be content with Mackowiak and Erstad out in LF with Perez playing about 20-30 games out there too. (it's probly not #4, but a guy can hope) i dont think theres any way they release pablo. at least i hope not! im thinking they think pods (maybe even uribe) wont be ready for the start of the season if i had to guess.
-
ahhh! I HATE THE U! im just glad im back in the city b/c when i was down at school i never got to see the games and no bars carried that worthless station!
-
i like the signing as well. Hall is a gamer and can provide depth for us at a couple of postions.
-
if fields could learn to be servicable on defense by opening day i would love to see him out there. that migh not be possible. chances are it will be erstad. gulp
-
it'll be gavin, but if he struggles i like dark-horse gio to replace him. call me crazy
-
i'd go with jon. His numbers last year were inflated by a horrible start to the season, but after that he rebounded nicely. Expect '05 numbers from freaklishy tall bean-pole (and no, not b-mac)
-
have to agree that im pretty shocked the cubs have that good of odds. In all fairness i'm kinda impressed the sox are 8 to 1 as well.
-
don't overhype the indians. I dont know why everyone thinks they have the better rotation. Didnt most of there rotation have bad years? If everyone is sure they are going to rebound there is no think buerhle, contreras, vazquez, etc wont as well. Yes they have a good offense but didnt the sox score more runs, hit more homers, etc. They could be a good team but i would still take the sox roster over the indians.
