Annual Soxtalk NCAA Bracket
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Anybody have their brackets trashed yet? One of my friends had Duke in the final four for our work bracket that was 50 bucks, Id say hes done. I had Duke in the Elite 8. That's the only reason I don't have a near flawless bracket.

Dee and Deron recruited Sherron Collins to Kansas
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 12:28 AM) First of all, I said in 2005 Bruce not being able to recruit would cause a downfall, however I had no idea it would be that fast. Second, Doyel is out of his mind normally, but I can't argue with a word of that article. I knew recruiting would be his downfall and you're right, I don't think anyone would think it would be this quick. Hell, he might lose Quinton Watkins for godsake.

What could the Sox get for Mackowiak ?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) Dominating the high school game and dominating the college game are two very different things. What about his pedestrian junior college numbers make you think he could still be "big-time?" Just asking. My thought would be that he's just disinterested in the JuCo scene.

Angel Santiago is kind of like Steve Francis. They're both dynamic high energy guys and take it to the hole alot. That's their whole offense really. Like Francis, for whatever reason, he doesn't have his head on completely straight. For Illinois, I'd say he's a good risk to take with Weber recruiting because they haven't been able to land anyone significant with him as coach.

Solution is simple, re-hire Jimmy Collins as an assistant so he can reopen that connection between UofI and the city public schools. Until they do that or get Bill Self back, UofI is screwed with Bruce Weber.

MLB 2K7
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) If the scoreboard is green then it's an incredibly black shade of green. As for the walls, I don't know why the hell I thought they were blue but they sure as hell aren't anywhere near as green as they are in the game. Depends on time of day. It's forest green so when the sun is out, it looks like it does in the game, but when it's dark and gloomy in your pics, it's darker.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) Yeah, when I think about it you're right they are green. But not nearly as green as they are in the game. I do think the scoreboard is black though, it just looks green when the light hits it directly during the day. Nope, it's green in real life too. I wouldn't be suprised if they repainted the cement green as well.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) The walls are blue and the scoreboard is black in real life. The walls are blue? Since when? And the scoreboard is green as well in real life. That's what I don't get about people complaining about the walls. Only thing that's wrong is the scoreboard which is blue in the game. http://diary.jp.aol.com/hzyyyx/img/1123404419.jpg

Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Im sure they would much rather have Darrent Williams than bly but they obviously cant. Its still an upgrade to have Bly over anybody else they would of brought in. Nate Clements?

Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Feel free to post the yards allowed if you can find it anywhere. Bly, 81 deflections over 8 years in 119 games for .68 a game Bailey, 97 deflections over 8 years in 126 games for .77 a game McAlister, 99 deflections over 8 years in 121 games for .8 a game Rolle, 84 deflections over 9 years in 132 games for .64 a game Tillman, 33 defelctions over 4 years in 53 games for .62 a game (3.5 int's a season, 65 tackles each year) Vasher, 17 defelctions over 3 years in 46 games for .37 a game Manning, 18 defelctions over 4 years in 63 games for .29 a game Bly has 7 defensive TD's in his 8 years. Bailey has 4 TD's McAlister has 6 TD's Rolle has 2 TD's Manning has 3 TD's in 4 years Tillman has 2 TD's in 4 years Vasher has 2 TD's in 3 years Still not better than Darrent Williams which is who they had. Since D Williams only played 2 years, I'll compare his numbers with Dre Bly's past two years. Williams: 27 Games, 124 tackles, 15 assists, 1 sack, 6 interceptions, 2TD, 13 pass deflections Bly: 28 Games, 84 tackles, 12 assists, 0 sacks, 9 interceptions, 0 TD, 24 pass deflections Hell, I'll even put up Bly's first two seasons: 32 games, 62 tackles, 7 assists, 1 sack, 6 interceptions, 1TD, 12 pass deflections. I have to get to work, but when I get back I'll try to find Yards Given Up Per Game. BTW, don't forget again, Bly played in a system in which his job was to go for picks. The other guys were coverage guys.

Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Also, there were a ton of teams who wouldnt even throw at Bailey and you cant really rate his presence with stats. Also, I think if youre gonna compare the Bears it should be Tillman and Vasher. There is no comparison simply because Tillman's such a slouch. So I'll compare the Bronco's tandem last year of Darrent Williams and Champ Bailey. I'll happily take that over Dre friggin Bly. Ask Lions fans how they feel about him. They think for once Millen actually made a good trade.

Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) What the heck, let's compare. Rolle, 9 years, 27 int's, 3 int's a year and 38 tackles a year McAllister, 8 years, 22 int's, 2.75 int's a year and 44 tackles a year Bly, 8 years, 33 int's, 4 int's a year and 38.25 tackles a year Bailey, 8 years, 39 int's, 4.875 int's a year and 63 tackles a year Manning, 4 years, 14 int's, 3.5 int's a year and 45 tackles a year Vasher, 3 years, 16 int's, 5.33 int's a year and 40 tackles a year Bly and Bailey's numbers are clearly better than the Raven's pair, and the Raven's/Bear's pair get to play with two of the top front seven's in football each year. Bly spent half his career in Detroit and the other half in St. Louis. Let's see what number's Bly puts up when he gets to play with Denver's defensive talent. Bly also can tackle and hit's pretty well, he has forced 17 fumbles to go along with his 33 int's in his 8 years. Overall Bly has caused 50 turnover's in 8 years. Not bad for a guy that apparently can't tackle. Compared that to Vasher and Manning who have a combined 6 forced fumbles in their 7 years. The "great tackling" pair of McAlister and Samari have 5 forced fumbles in their 17 combined years. Champ has 5 forced fumbles by himself. Would you rather have a CB that has created 50 turnovers in 8 years or a CB like McAlister who will get you 6 more tackles each year? Maybe every one of those 6 tackles will be game savers, maybe not. Oh and Bly's not to shabby on grass either, still the all-time leader in the ACC in interceptions with 20 and was a 3 time All-American in his 3 years at UNC. Where's pass deflections? Where's YPG given up? There's key defensive stats missing. I guess Dealta O'Neal was better than almost every CB in the league one year when he picked up a ton of INT's.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) The rumor was, KW was trying to nail McCarthy's girlfriend and they fought over it. It started on a Cubs blog, and a minor one at that. No go. It's probably not true and there's nothing at all to suggest it is. I thought KW was happily married. What a stupid rumor.

Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 12:09 AM) Champ Bailey>anybody That's nice, but I rather pick on Dre Bly over Chris McCallister and Samari Rolle anyday of the week. Again, this has to be the most overrated CB in the league today. I'd take Nathan Vasher or hell, even Ricky Manning Jr over Dre Bly. There's tons of guys better than Bly. Darrent Williams (RIP) >> Dre Bly. Also, I'd like to see how Bly does on natural grass in the snow instead of playing in the dome.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
BTW, a couple of things. What was the rumor about McCarthy that has been mentioned in this thread? Also, after thinking about the comments by Ozzie and looking at the story as a whole, I'm going to agree with him ripping Brandon. Brandon talks first. If Ozzie doesn't say anything, fans would say "Oh, what Brandon said must be true" and FA's would probably think the same. I'm not saying Ozzie ripping the guy helps big time, but it does save some face if you really think about it by killing Brandon's credibility. Fact is, Brandon should've never started it in the first place, but of course, Cy Young, err, McCarthy will get a free pass. Ozzie takes care of all his players whether we like to admit it or not. Look at the 2005 WS Game 2 with Jenks blowing the save. He could've ripped the guy and gone with Cotts who was pretty lights out or even Politte, both who are veterans. Instead he discussed the blown save with Jenks right after the game and told him not to worry and to be ready the next game. Yes, again, Ozzie showing confidence in his players. The whole Latin argument as well is pretty retarded IMO, but that's a whole 'nother discussion. I also agree with Ozzie stating his other 5 starters were still better options than McCarthy which was true. They were all proven guys and usually those guys are less prone to continue the slump over a young guy who couldn't even handle the pen. Guys like Danny Haren and Johan were able to deal with starting off there. I'm guessing in 5 years, Brandon McCarthy will be in the same light as Jeremy Reed. Who?

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 11:15 PM) Yep, Ozzie never said one bad thing about McCarthy during the last year. Do you intentionally forget his rant about McCarthy not being Cy Young? And anyone that thinks Ozzie handled our starters well last year is just....dumb. How many times was he going to let Vazquez get bombed in the 6th inning? How many times was he going to let Garcia and/or Buehrle have their outings go from 6 innings, 3 runs to 6 2/3 innings, 5 runs because he tried to get them thru the inning in order to possibly get the win. Maybe it's better McCarthy isn't here anymore, because Ozzie's leash on him would have been so short. The Cy Young comment wasn't directed at McCarthy, it was directed at the armchair managers who were crying over the fact that McCarthy wasn't in the rotation and getting more PT.

Sunday game vs. Cubs on TV?
Figures, Soxtalk drops the ball again with the schedule posted on the main page saying our first televised game is March 6th. Great job guys! *laughs at mods who get up in arms about my sarcastic post*

Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?
*Yawn* You guys are severely overrating Dre Bly. He stinks at stopping the run and tackling overall. He's not a sucky CB by any means, but he's not anywhere near god. Chris McCallister & Samari Rolle > Champ Bailey & Dre Bly

HD TV Question
I'd rank tv's as the following: Plasma > DLP > LCD DLP keeps catching up though. With the 3 mirror technology, rainbow won't be a problem as we progress(check out the new DLP's) and they have the best of Plasma and LCD built in it. Right now though, I absolutely love my plasma. I play video games up the wazoo on it. 3 of my 4 daily hours on my tv is from video games with movies and sports mixed in periodically. Burn-in's never been a problem for me. I usually have the shifting pixels setting on.

I don't know if anyone's talked about this, but has anyone tried the BaseBurner mode when you have someone on base? I didn't notice if they had that last year, but that is fuuuuuuuuuun. Stealing with Pods is great.

MLB 2K7
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) Last years version did suck. But then again, so did most of the next generation sports games on their first go-around. This year, all the sports titles have dramatically improved and with 2k sports hiring the main mastermind behind the MVP series, one would think this game will be great.... no brainer. I think its funny that all the EA fans will stick by a 2 year old game with ancient graphics over getting the current MLB title that has been essentially made by "the precious MVP" MVP '05 wasnt even that great, '04 was the best version by far. No, 05 was by far the best one. Not even close.
