Comments on the Sox in ESPN's Power Rankings

We should be at most #10. -
QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) If there is ACTUALLY the 3rd option - BA AND Soriano - I would jump for JOY!!! As would I. I'm going to ask a question. What's the difference if Pods gets on 40 more times in the year than and Soriano hitting about 37 more HR's than Pods? Getting on doesn't guarentee a run, especially when you're not running like Pods used to. Hitting a HR guarentee's you a run.

QUOTE(alexgtp @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) God I hope its dead. LAst thing we need is to back to the White Sox of old. Slugging didnt work than and it isnt going to work now. Pitching and defense... Pitching and defense... Our offense is potent enough.. Imagine with a solid pitching staff..!! You're right. Soriano is a better defender than Podsednik. GET'EM KENNY!

What I have learned the last few weeks
nitetrain8601 replied to tonyho7476's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It shows we're not Cub fans. If they won a WS they wouldn't care if they lost 162 games the following year whereas we care every year. We want it just as bad as we did last year. KW wants that too and so does JR. I don't know how many members on the team care for it though. -
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) Pods in center has not been a popular idea here but he has played center before. Anderson would make a hell of a defensive replacement the rest of this year. Mack, Gload, Ozuna???? Sox need a real 4th outfielder. Any Brewers fans out there that can comment on Pods in center? If the Sox get Soriano, I feel they will keep him. I can't see how they could pull off a deal to improve the pitching. Getting a stud like Soriano or Abreu could spark the team or ruin chemistry. In Kenny I trust. He has earned it. Brewer fans will tell you he's terrible out there as well.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) The local ESPN update says, according to Bruce Levine, that a trade for Soriano could still happen if the Nationals accept a package that includes Lance Broadway. Levine chiming in = kiss of death. Deal is officially dead.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) I see the Tigers giving up more than they wanted to for Soriano. I think its pretty obvious KW wasnt serious about aquiring him. I don't. Kenny hasn't offered much of a package at all if Broadway, Fields, (probably) Sweeney, McCarthy and anyone else on the 25 man roster is not available.

QUOTE(Hanger @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) Agreed with you there on a bad defensive outfield....the more and more this is going on, the more unlikely it seems the Sox will acquire Soriano, when you break the lineup down like has been done on this thread, it doesnt really make for a good fit. Especially if trying to hang onto BMac, and Anderson. He does fit. Remove Podsednik and stick Soriano out there. He fits nicely, thing is, when deals are talked about for a long time, they usually don't happen. And from the sound of it, KW has entered the Jim Hendry mode and only will do this deal if he could rip of Washingotn.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) Try to convince me that Javy Vazquez is a better starter than Brandon TODAY. Its just not true. Forget potential, this guy is already one of our 5 best starters and we need to stretch him out and f'n use him Convince me Brandon McCarthy is better than Javier Vazquez today. You really can't come up with an argument. BMac isn't stretched out, he had a couple good games down the stretch last year, but hasn't proven a thing. His bullpen numbers don't suggest he's anything great either. I don't know where people get the notion that McCarthy would just step in and be way better than Vazquez. I don't know why we just don't use Vazquez until the 6th, put BMac in there for a couple of innings, then throw in MacDougal/Thornton in the 8th and Jenks in the 9th.

Looks like this is just a pure case of Kenny trying to block Soriano to the Tigers or at least driving up the price. It seems he has no intention of trading for Soriano at all unless he completely rips them off. That isn't going to happen under Bowden's watch. If you're not even going to trade some top prospects for a guy like Soriano, it's just posturing. Thing is, if the White Sox are offering such a horrible package(has to be bad since there is no Broadway, Fields, McCarthy) then they really aren't driving up the price because I'm sure Detroit could offer a similar package and probably will offer a bit better one. Then you have Bowden pissed off for offering such crap and if he knows you had no intention of trading for Soriano and just was wasting his time, he might just go straight to Detroit and say "gimme your best offer."

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...p&team=home 7-1 victory for the sox, remember it like it was yesterday....... Wasn't Garland pitching against him or is that a different game?

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Sorry if this was posted, I was at the game and I don't feel like reading all of the fighting goin on: So I'm guessing KW wants to do Pods/Broadway and lower level prospect for Soriano and the Nats at least want Fields and Broadway. If it comes down to it, I give them Fields and Broadway(I explained why earlier).

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Yes more Nick Lemon's please. Or we could try to develop a Carlos Zambrano or a Liriano or a Peavy or a Beckett.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) so he signed with Florida knowing he would be dealt after the first year? Im not really following the logic. I don't think they told him that part really. I think if Florida made the World Series which they were expected to do, they would've kept that team together.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Are you ignoring the reason Delgado rejected the trade? It kind of ruins your ridiculous argument. I remember that. Alot of Sox fans though, for whatever reason, hate Delgado because they thought he didnt want to come here because he hated the city of Chicago and didn't like the Sox. That's not the case. He just wanted to find a place he know he could stay for awhile.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) Why would we want Soriano at leadoff? Isn't a leadoff hitter supposed to only steal bases and bunt? I don't want a guy who can knock in runs and create offense when we're facing a tough lefty or a catcher who can throw. Has only 6 less SB than Pods. Best numbers have been in leadoff spot. Hmm...we may be on to here Sparky!

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) I still remember Hawk talking a couple of years ago, raving about all the guys in the system that threw 95. Where are they? I not up for arguing with you, you're being absurd. But remember the Sox weren't selling out and wouldn't have been able to afford Delgado at that time. Thinks of best pitchers on team: Jenks, Thornton, Cotts, MacDougal, Contreras, Garland Proceeds to think why Freddy has sucked this season. Oh yeah, lack of velocity. Proceeds to see Buehrle continue to not hit exact locations and getting knocked around because of lack of velocity to make up for shortcomings.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Yes! Then maybe Flash will get his wish and we could draft "our" Liriano. You know since those kinda guys are so easy to find. If we were smart, we would actually draft a guy who has power in their arm.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Yeah....in the wild card standings this week at the Cell.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) R. Soriano has some injury issues right now. If we need to trade for another reliever, then the MacDougal trade was pointless. BTW, I predict now that we're going to despise MacDougal. Okay, to LA for Broxton and a prospect.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Ryan Zimmerman, people. The Nats don't need Fields. LF person. Once they trade Soriano, they'll need someone to replace him. Fields more than likely not will never play 3B in the majors.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) I would much rather trade Fields and Broadway for Soriano than any trade involving McCarthy. I think Fields stock is at an all time high, but I really think he's going to have trouble hitting major league pitching, at least for a long while. I have never been high on Broadway, I think he's a back of the rotation guy at best. I'd try to give up less, but if that what it took to keep him away from Detroit and Minnesota, I would do it, although you really should worry about Minnesota more at this point, and they are after CLee. Then looks like 3 way. We get Soriano and Lee, Washington gets McCarthy and Fields goes to Milwaukee. We then flip Carlos Lee to the Mariners for Soriano and a prospect or for JJ Putz. DAMMIT IM A JEANYUS!!!
-
QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) I would be fine with BMac or Pods but not both and not either with Fields. Too much to give up for 3 months. But this teams needs a shake up for sure. If it's for just Broadway and Fields, I think that's more than a fair deal and it makes complete sense. BMac is already blocking Broadway for the 3 year future and we have other guys as well like Garland and Buehrle and Vaz(as much as you want to get rid of him). Plus we have a ton more pitching prospects who are at the same level as Broadway I would say. Fields won't play 3rd for this team since we have Crede. We currently have Pods and if we got Soriano, he would be signed to an extension therefore blocking Fields for years to come. In other words, Broadway and Fields more than make sense for both teams and it's pretty equal.

Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Well, we do have that Jenks guy to close games for us. Green? No. I'm like Flash when it comes to guy who are just location pitchers. That includes Brandon "HOFer" McCarthy as well.
