I think you trade Kay. With that stated, I wouldn't be opposed to doing this old school and bringing these guys up as bullpen guys or using an opener for them as they get a feel. They have to get used to major league hitting and there's only oh so much you can do in the minors. For Castillo, someone else smartly pointed out - with the lockout looming next year, we may not get baseball at all. Therefore, Luis will not reach 180IP and that option becomes void. So effectively, they may only have him for this year. A bigger problem to me is catching. I felt like we had way too many C in the system just two years ago. Now, they haven't panned out either due to injury or talent. I'm at the point of finding Korey Lee's post because it can't be any worse. Heck, I would've given Boston Smith a chance at this point. I was one of those who didn't think C was that important for Getz to acquire at the deadline, but now I'm realizing, they probably should've looked for a solution there.

Yep, I think the Sox are not absolved of blame. They knew during first pitch whether guy was going to show up. They wanted the concessions, which they would've received anyway since it was African Heritage Night, the team is good, it's a battle for first place. I thought that was in poor taste. Either way, I guess ever since Spirit shut down, Ja Rule can't afford to catch a flight.

Similar to Brandon Weeden as a QB in college, i would expect he would have that given his age. Everyone cites differing things, but again, in what sport are you a prospect at 28? Thats supposed to be your prime and you’re supposed to be a vet at that age. More so, no one has answered why he hasn’t progressed as his other draft classmates have. Due to that, his value is horrid. As a Sox fan and a Dodger fan, it’s great personally because Skubal leaves the division and the Tigers get no one who can potentially be great IMO. Maybe an all star or two, but that’s where it tops out. And before being a fan of teams, I’m a fan of baseball. This trade is bad for baseball. Not because the Dodgers outspend everyone, but because the Dodgers gave up no one they’re going to lose sleep over.

This reply is a response. You still haven’t answered the question of what 28 year old is a prospect in baseball. And the Dodgers are my favorite NL team. But I also don’t want to see baseball die.

Ryan's had a hamstring problem for how many years? Emmett Sheehan and Justin Wrobleski were in the same draft. Surely the Tigers could've asked for them. Why didn't they? In what sport do we say "hey, this 28 year old guy might be able to have a future with this team?" River Ryan is a dime a dozen pitching prospect. What's bad for baseball is the Dodgers getting the bonafide, best starter in baseball for very little chance of org altering players. The OF was the third best OF on his minor league club. The pitcher was the worst of the three starters in that draft and is old.

Name pitching prospects who have been excellent at the age of 28? If he was excellent, why were the Dodgers rolling Eric Lauer out there? Why did Henriquez pitch Friday? Why were the Dodgers looking for an ace considering their rotation? Maybe he's not Kaplan is already backtracking on what he said about Jed earlier in the week. He said he would go nuclear if Jed didn't get Skubal or Miller or any other top shelf guy.

Maybe, but that's not saying much. Shane Smith was our best starter last year. What does that prove? That he's a future Cy Young winner or at least a stud? If so, why wouldn't the Dodgers ship off Glasnow or their other pitchers before River? To me, that just proves how bad someone's rotation is, not necessarily how great this player is.

What PaleAleSox said, it's heavily weighted by guys who are never going to make it and guys who got sent down, etc. Is there a rule that says such? No. But I could also say there's no rule that says anyone over 30 can't still be considered a prospect. Being logical, you would tell me you're not a prospect. Tell me what other players on the flip side of 25 are considered top prospects in baseball. I genuinely don't know.

To me, this move was made with the lockout looming. It looks like a large sum of money, but the lockout is going to make this deal much shorter and more digestable. I do think Castillo is the type of pitcher who needs a few tweaks. I watched one of his starts a few weeks back and I think his stuff is still good. We'll see.

He's also in his upper 20s. IMO, you're no longer a prospect once you hit the age of 24.

As someone who has rooted for the Dodgers as their NL team since Mannywood was a thing, I hate the deal. Not because of the money but because of the lack of prospects. That was the best deal you could get for the best pitcher in baseball??? It should’ve been the top 3 prospects not this.

Thing is, Robert wasn’t going to recover value here because he is a player that needs other great hitters around him. I said this last summer. He’s not a Soto, Judge type hitter. But he’s a Schwarber type hitter; when there’s good players around him, he can carry you. When there’s not, he looks like hot garbage.

I think the dangerous game was when Pritzker flat out told Warren that they didn’t plan to talk about the stadium at all in 2026 assemblies after the Bears waited 3 years and they were public in wanting shovels in the ground in 2025. Pritzker overplayed his hand. If the Bears leaving gets the govt to reassess how they do business in this state, then it’s a long term win for residents. It just sucks they had to potentially lose the Bears to finally get a mirror up.

This is what I expect as well. I know the Bears wanted their own sports book as well when this all started. I could easily see them build something like the battery in Atlanta, but upgraded. The question is, will stadium tour concerts end up there? Taylor Swift for example? it’s funny seeing some national media talking about this though. Like Rachel Nichols went off on the Bears calling them broke because they can’t stay afford to stay in IL.

I disagree with that. The reason why this became news is because IL governement, specifically JB Pritzker, told the Bears they have no intention on discussing this in 2026. They wanted shovels in the ground Spring 2025 at latest. so the Bears are pissed off. I honestly think it’s more 60-40 the Bears are in AH, but 40 is large and looming
