QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I'll puke if that happens. Nomar = Frank (ie I don't want anyone you can't count on being healthy). Dunn is as over-rated as it gets. Sure he'd be great, but this guy doesn't have a clue how to execute. He went a couple years without a sac fly or something. Pathetic. Resign Paulie..trade for Delgado...keep the rest of the cast in place, add another reliever, deal Duque. And where are you going to play Delgado/PK when we're in interleague? I think Delgado is too big of a bat to have as a DH and same as PK. Neither could play any other positions. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARDDDDDDDD........YES!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) I can't believe Comcast isn't broadcasting Cleveland's loss yet. It's Comcast. I'm suprised they didn't black out yet.

Count continues to make great pitches. Contreras > Cy Young

And runners on the corner with 1 out. I know lots of people don't believe in jinxes, but DJ needs to get his ass kicked.
-
Is DJ trying to jinx this thing? Someone email and drill his ass.
-
Seems like Pods didn't run that out hard. At least from first observations.
-
It don't mean a thing without the ring.

Yankees always get away with stuff like that. Other teams don't whether we like it or not.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Why does everyone suddenly care how many homers we hit, or how many we get from what position? Does it really matter that much if our CF hits 12 or 20? Wasn't the whole point of our offense to rely less on the homers? The Yankees don't have a whole lot more homers in the outfield than us (Matsui is barely over 20, Crosby has 1, Williams has 12, Lawton has 13 on the whole year), and their offense seems alright. We're still near the top of the league in homers anyways, and it isn't helping. If Anderson hits .250 with 20 homers, virtually no walks, and 130 K's, how does that help the situation? He's a rookie! He's not going to come in and hit .300. Young is even farther from being ready to produce. He's got talent but he's raw. Adding more guys that can't get on isn't going to solve our problem. Even in a season that it seems a lot of us are disappointed with, Rowand is hitting over .270 and has an OBP around .330. While it's not stellar, it's not terrible either. How about we deal with the guys that are hitting around .250 with OBP's under .310 first like Everett, Crede, and Uribe? How many exactly does Gary Sheffield have?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Mentality, desire, heart, attitude, managing....all things the Sox do not have right now. And talent.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Never said it wasn't an important stat. Stat's are overrated in baseball and I have said this many times and I hate to sound like Hawk but it's about what he does for the team that doesnt get recorded as a stat. And since the first half, he hasn't done jack.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) I fear you underestimate the grind of 162 games on a body. 1st off, no one, NO ONE, is 100%. 2nd, the fact of the matter is that the team as a whole is slacking. Look at how it was clicking in the 1st half. The team lost that mentality and it has hampered everyones play. So how do you explain the surging Indians and Yankees? Fact is, Pods had his resting time and he had more than enough time to get back on track to do what he's supposed to do. He isn't doing it which makes him a liability.
-
QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Who the hell cares about that. Not all players are about power, dude. I really would have expected someone with your knowledge to know this. I don't know if you watch Sox gams through the internet or whatever, but Pods was freakin' amazing in the first half and there is a reason he bats #1, so he can get on base and steal bases which he did perfectly for a half a season until his injury! Does it matter if he plays OF, IF, C? Not really, you can get power players for any position nowadays. Look at his numbers with RISP. His OPS is way low. His OBP isn't that of a great leadoff hitter. He doesn't have many triples for a guy with tremendous speed. His defense isn't good. He's a nice player and an asset. This team, however, doesn't need assets, it needs guys they can rely on. In the first half, Pods was doing his job. After that he went to s***. Like I've said before, the most worthless .300 hitter.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) Oh, I agree with you there 100% but getting rid of Pods, who is cheap, is plain retarted to me. If we could package Aaron, El Duque, and Marte to a team willing to give us a good offensive player...do it. And have Pods play CF? As someone said earlier, I rather have Konerko in CF before Pods. Also, Podsednik is no longer injured. It's a mental block for him. He caught the Willie Harris syndrome. In fact, I think even Willie doesn't have that syndrome anymore. Pods is cheap, but if we could package Rowand for a power hitting corner fielder and somehow get Pierre in here, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
-
QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) I could deal with Anderson over Rowand too. I like ANderson. That 2 homer game or whatever showed something to me. I can't wait to watch him in Spring Training next year and see how he does. I'd love for him to become some sort of stud that we need. Here's food for thought, anyone think the Cards would be interested in dealing Scott Rolen? Look at how well they do, even without him. Just a thought. Of course they would. But they would be demanding Crede, probably BMac and Marte.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) ?? I thought you were saying if Nomar didn't have to play the field he would be able to avoid injury. Then I said "he got injured on the base path". I never mentioned Thomas or Thome. As far as taking a risk on a injury prone player... sure, if they are willing to sign a reasonable contract. I'm saying I have faith in him staying healthy as a DH. As far as I know fathom, the guy will play whoever shells out the most dough unless he's willing to play SS for a weak franchise. All of the California teams have a SS. Angels: Cabrera Dodgers: Izturis Oakland: Scutaro or Crosby(I forget) Giants: Vizquel Yankees won't sign him because they have other pressing needs like pitching again. Boston won't bring him back because they have Renteria. Florida maybe, but I doubt they let go of Alex Gonzalez. As far as I'm concerned, he's going to have to play another position, sign for less and play whatever reasonable position the team wants, or sign for the most(for a cheap team probably). We need a couple of things though. We need a Nomar, Durazo, Furcal, Giles, Thome, Tracy. At least 2 of those guys are needed on this team.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Are you talking about keeping PK too? If you just substitute Helton for PK, this offense still blows. I'm not sure we could afford both. I agree. That's partially why we have to go after those bargains. We need to add to this team, not make lateral moves and add something while taking away something else.
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I know most people look at the whole what he has with ties to the franchise. But he has many more ties here, IMO. So his decision would have to be based off something else. He loves how the guys play down there. He would have a better team down there. He lives in FLA. He hasn't been criticized like crazy down there. It would be pretty easy. I would be all good with Ozzie staying as manager as long as we had someone decent as a bench coach.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Didn't he get injured running the bases? DH's still have to do that. Frank got injured how? Thome got injured how? Like I said, all the guys worth getting have injury concerns. You have to deal with them. I would take the risk because the reward is greater.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) Remember...Broadway can't be traded till June. Fine then, trade Marte & Young and try to get Blalock. I know he had a down year this year, but I think he'll be improved for next year.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) He could be a possibility but he'd want to play 2B, and we're not moving Iguchi (even though I know you've suggested him in a deal to Seattle to get a guy like Beltre). Now if you could get him to play CF, it could maybe happen, but I'd doubt he'd DH for us. I think there lies the problem. He doesn't want to play the OF(which is the reason why the Cubs didn't deal for him) and he doesn't want to DH. I would love him, but I wouldn't have him over Iguchi at 2B simply because we need guys who could make defensive plays. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) You think Nomar can stay healthy? I don't. sure, sign Nomar if he'll take the minimum. I do as a DH. I'm sure he can. And like I said earlier, the best guys to get this year are going to be the guys who has injury risks. There's no stud guy out there who is injury free this year. As far as Dunn, he'd be great if we had other hitters around him. BA IMHO is much more important to this team because we need guys who could knock runners in. Getting on base isn't the problem in my eyes. It's scoring those runners in which no one on this team could do.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) No offense nite but it'd take a s***load more then that to trade for tex, to be honest, he ain't going anywhere for a long long time. How about Marte, Young, Tracey + Broadway. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Durazo's a risk. But if you could get him for say $1 or 2M for 1 year with incentives, he could rake at the Cell too. Remember he had a +.900 OPS in Oakland in 2003. Thome's an option I've put forward as well, but Philly would have to pay at least half of his deal. You wouldn't have to give up as much for him as Helton though because of his back, unless they decide to trade Ryan Howard instead......... Well yeah, I'd take Durazo if he comes that cheap. Thome as well. I don't want to pay all his cash, but if they took a large chunk, I would love to see him in a Sox uni. As far as Ryan Howard, I don't know think they would trade him unless they got a stud starting pitcher in return(BMac). I also don't think I would want a young hitter simply because our hitting coach would most likely f up his swing. I rather stick with a guy who knows what he's doing.

QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Agree on the first part, on the 2nd part "everyone" is a dubious word choice. How often does the franchise need to change hitting coaches? Von Joshua, Gary Ward, now this guy? I don't like the hitting results but I do like at least being in a pennant race on Sept. 28th, unlike other years recently. Things can always be improved upon though, there's no doubt about that. I would seriously think about bringing back Walt Hriniak. That or jumping CLE, TEX, or TB for their hitting coaches.

I think it's 2 = WC tie 3 = WC 4 = Division. I could be wrong though.
