The Official "Fire Ozzie" Thread
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I know most people look at the whole what he has with ties to the franchise. But he has many more ties here, IMO. So his decision would have to be based off something else. He loves how the guys play down there. He would have a better team down there. He lives in FLA. He hasn't been criticized like crazy down there. It would be pretty easy. I would be all good with Ozzie staying as manager as long as we had someone decent as a bench coach.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Didn't he get injured running the bases? DH's still have to do that. Frank got injured how? Thome got injured how? Like I said, all the guys worth getting have injury concerns. You have to deal with them. I would take the risk because the reward is greater.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) Remember...Broadway can't be traded till June. Fine then, trade Marte & Young and try to get Blalock. I know he had a down year this year, but I think he'll be improved for next year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) He could be a possibility but he'd want to play 2B, and we're not moving Iguchi (even though I know you've suggested him in a deal to Seattle to get a guy like Beltre). Now if you could get him to play CF, it could maybe happen, but I'd doubt he'd DH for us. I think there lies the problem. He doesn't want to play the OF(which is the reason why the Cubs didn't deal for him) and he doesn't want to DH. I would love him, but I wouldn't have him over Iguchi at 2B simply because we need guys who could make defensive plays. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) You think Nomar can stay healthy? I don't. sure, sign Nomar if he'll take the minimum. I do as a DH. I'm sure he can. And like I said earlier, the best guys to get this year are going to be the guys who has injury risks. There's no stud guy out there who is injury free this year. As far as Dunn, he'd be great if we had other hitters around him. BA IMHO is much more important to this team because we need guys who could knock runners in. Getting on base isn't the problem in my eyes. It's scoring those runners in which no one on this team could do.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) No offense nite but it'd take a s***load more then that to trade for tex, to be honest, he ain't going anywhere for a long long time. How about Marte, Young, Tracey + Broadway. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Durazo's a risk. But if you could get him for say $1 or 2M for 1 year with incentives, he could rake at the Cell too. Remember he had a +.900 OPS in Oakland in 2003. Thome's an option I've put forward as well, but Philly would have to pay at least half of his deal. You wouldn't have to give up as much for him as Helton though because of his back, unless they decide to trade Ryan Howard instead......... Well yeah, I'd take Durazo if he comes that cheap. Thome as well. I don't want to pay all his cash, but if they took a large chunk, I would love to see him in a Sox uni. As far as Ryan Howard, I don't know think they would trade him unless they got a stud starting pitcher in return(BMac). I also don't think I would want a young hitter simply because our hitting coach would most likely f up his swing. I rather stick with a guy who knows what he's doing.

QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Agree on the first part, on the 2nd part "everyone" is a dubious word choice. How often does the franchise need to change hitting coaches? Von Joshua, Gary Ward, now this guy? I don't like the hitting results but I do like at least being in a pennant race on Sept. 28th, unlike other years recently. Things can always be improved upon though, there's no doubt about that. I would seriously think about bringing back Walt Hriniak. That or jumping CLE, TEX, or TB for their hitting coaches.

A little magic
I think it's 2 = WC tie 3 = WC 4 = Division. I could be wrong though.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) I'll glady take these two, along with a trade for Chad Tracy. You improve your offense a bunch just by adding these two (not counting Durazo). And, I'm talking Nomar at third -- money talks, and I doubt teams are going to be chomping at the bit to sign him as a SS -- though I could be wrong. His bat makes up for his defensive inefficincies, plus he's versataile, you can hit him pretty much anywhere from #2-6. Make.Me.Happy. No one else. Just me. I'd take Nomar at least as a DH. I don't know if I want Durazo. I would try to trade for Texieria(trade Young, Rogowski, and a Lumsden; give or take a little). I would also look at Jim Thome for DH. He absolutely would rake at the Cell. Yes, he's been injured this year, but the only guys worth going for in the offseaon this year IMHO are guys who have injury concerns.

Message to JR: Sign Konerko now
He needs to worry about making the playoffs right now instead of his contract.

AND THATS AN INDIANS LOSER
Any possible way to switch Ozzie and Lou after the last game of the regular season?

Better offense and a new manager. Since the site began, I can't think of a time in which pitching wasn't mentioned up until now. That's good, but we have glaring holes on offense. Problem is that all the decent worthwhile FA's that are available play positions that are already good enough on this team. I mean Bengie will be getting alot more than AJ and I also think AJ is a much better game caller than Bengie. Crede has the best glove that's available to us. He saves Mark and Jon a lot of runs. Plus his offense seems like it's coming around as long as he keeps his current stance. He's a 9 hitter anyway. Ask the Yanks if they would like that type of production out of their 9 hitter and they would love it. Uribe is a necessity at short. Only because of his strong arm. He's very streaky and I think he should be a platoon player if we do go look at SS. Giles is the only real option. Especially since Pods doesn't steal bases anymore. Pods is as useful as Willie right now. He better learn how to steal or he should be traded and room should be made for Giles. We need to desperately do something with that DH spot though. Either Frank or some massive power hitter via trade.

We'll probably load the bases and whoever's up there next will f it up.

Aaron is the worst #3 hitter I've seen behind Carl(of the past month and a half). Another soft grounder. Can't pull the trigger on a fastball down the middle or a hanging change.

2-2. A-Row is looking to be an automatic out or DP.

I agree with Ozzie using the bench. He must finally realize his guys aren't doing it and he's sending them the message that if you didn't get it done, someone else will have a shot. I disagree with throwing in Geoff f***ing Blum out of all people to use. Use Gload or Anderson, not Blum. And now AJ comes in behind the plate. He must be f***ing pissed.

DP for Blum. This is why I wouldn't take Ozzie over Dusty Baker.

So your winning 3 - 0 in the 6th
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Here's the beauty about this last week: all four teams involved in the race control their own destiny. If they win, they're in the playoffs. Lose, and they're likely out. One quick thing, the White Sox have a problem of winning.

If we can hold on, who do you want in the ALDS?
I voted Anaheim before I thought of the fact we can't win out west. Boston is my 2nd choice. Under no circumstances the revived Yanks or Injuns.
