  1. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Dunno if anyone mentioned the rumors swirling around the coaching staff. A) Mike Martz coming in after the end of the season to be OC. (more likely of the two). B) The Brass at Halas Hall looking into Shannahan, Gruden, Cowher (which the Bears deny). Personally, I think it's a horrible idea to try and force 1 year of Mike Martz in here in hopes that he can help save Lovie's job. It just seems like an accident waiting to happen and another wasted year of Cutler's career. I wish the Bears would just bite the Bullet and bring in one of the aforementioned coaches to right this ship. Fire Angelo and Lovie and bring in some true talent evaluators to rebuild the franchise. It would be expensive -- paying off Lovie and Angelo -- but if you hire Shannahan or Gruden you get them for the pro-rated version of whatever was left on their previous contracts. You would have to assume that Shannahan would like to be reunited with his pupil... right? QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Love him or hate him, Martz has had some QBs under his tutelage that have put up some pretty big numbers. I dont know that it would be a wasted year in Cutlers career. But I agree, it is just a stopgap I read the rumors in the SunTimes today. I think Martz would be a good idea. Cutler is a guy who easily can throw the deep ball even in terrible conditions. Martz is an offensive guru who would have decent parts to work with. I think he would easily be a good hire since he also could help improve Forte. I don't see Angelo getting fired, and I see the Bears giving Lovie one more year. It would be just wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive to fire the administration, even if you're a non-Bears fan who is not used to the cheap nature of the Bears front office. And guys like Cowher, Holmgren, Shannahan, Gruden will be available next year. Maybe not all of them, but probably at least 3 of them. Cowher for sure is not going to settle for a job unless it's with a storied franchise(btw, I think he's overrated). Gruden will demand some cash and control. Holmgren and Shannahan are the only guys I would actually give it to. Shannahan and Cowher are the only guys I see being hired at this point in time. Shan with the Bills and Cowher with Dallas or the Texans.
  2. QUOTE (bacon20 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/stor...&id=4683505 great article about Evan Turner. my sister is really good friends with him from high school, and i remember when this happened. this kid is gonna have a hell of a year Huge fan of Turner. BTW, welcome to the board.
  3. Well they're in the first stage of negotiations according to ESPN. Now with that said, I wouldn't even care if they split the purse 50-50 and raised the PPV to $60 or $70. I would still buy that fight. As far as Cotto vs Pac, a couple of things happened. Cotto was doing really good and standing toe to toe with Pac, but Pac hit him hard, and Cotto got conservative. It was a combo of it being fast and it coming from an unexpected angle. Then Cotto just tried to jab and move when really, he should've tried to jam him the whole fight. Then like in the 5th or 6th round, he got tired out and exposed himself. He basically was running the rest of the night minus a round afterwards. Cotto needed to be ready to go 15 rounds, not 5. Pac also hasn't been hit hard like that before either. With that said, I don't know who would win a fight between Floyd and Pac. Pac has the advantage that he can hit from any angle, he's fast enough to keep up with Mayweather, and his endurance is elite. Floyd has elite quickness, elite endurance, but also has one of the highest IQ's in boxing. It'll be hard for Pac to get a good flow of sound punches on Mayweather to hurt him. With that said, Mayweather is going to have the same problem. Mayweather really doesn't fight to beat you up though, he fights to win the fight. The key though would be if Pac can adjust his fighting. If he is okay with fighting Mayweather's style and doesn't get frustrated(which he is capable of), then he'll stand a good chance. Pac can't take off rounds though because PBF will rack up those rounds really quick.
  4. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) ..crisp would of been the leadoff hitter though Leads off once a game. If Crisp was a stud or at least could sustain a high OBP and high average, then I would have a slight hesitation.
  5. Sure as hell beats Coco Crisp
  6. It wasn't a sucker punch apparently. ND is trying to spin the story. http://www.southbendtribune.com/article/20...979/1001/Sports
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) Yeah, and if you put Trent Dilfer on a dominant team, he wins a Super Bowl. Last year, the Broncos had a pretty dominant team aside from the defense, and he went 8-8. Last year, the Bears had an average offense with a bad defense (not as bad as Denver's, but still bad) and they won 9 games. Obviously, if you get on a team that's already dominant, he's going to win. But guys like Peyton Manning are doing it with an above average defense, 1 great WR and 2 young WR's. That's hardly dominant. Am I saying I expect Jay to be a Manning like QB? No. But if he's a franchise QB, he has to be able to carry the team at some points too. I stated many reasons as to why, and that was one of them, not the only one. No offense, but that should never be a reason. I respect if you think he sucks or is overrated as I'm not even a Bears fan, but I disagree. I think he has too crap of a team around him.
  8. Was last night Cutler's fault? Yes. At the same time, citing a team record as to why a QB stinks/overrated is not too smart.
  9. I feel much better about the bench. How is this a bad move considering he's not getting paid like he did 5 years ago?
  10. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) In a way, seeing this report makes me sad because T-Mac is still one of my favourite players going around, but he's basically a shadow of what he was back when he was playing with the Magic. Now if the Bulls had a chance to dump a long - term contract such as Deng's for T-Mac's expiring max deal, would you pull the trigger? I honestly would. I think Deng would be perfect for that offense too. Moving him means you can possibly sign two max fa's if you non-tender Tyrus and trade Kirk.
  11. Wow I didn't think Jayson was that bad.

Apparently, they also will not be showing any trailers or preview footage for the following season.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Jameer Nelson out for 4-6 weeks after knee surgery. Fair to say we've been pretty banged up so far, and somehow we're 8-3. As for Ellis, he's basically a lot like Ben Gordon IMO, so you have to decide if you want to trade for his offensive ability, against Hinrich's tenacious defense ability. Big blow. He's a step away from becoming injury prone in my eyes. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) Right now...very much so. As far as Ellis, he is nothing like Ben Gordon other than he is also an undersized SG. He has no PG ability in him. He cannot shoot, not in comparison to Ben, but in comparison to even average SG's. His game is predicated on speed and getting inside like Derrick Rose. He will ballhog big time. He's also been a problem in GSW, and no, I'm not talking about Don Nelson, but the actual players. We don't want Ellis, especially if we didn't want Ben. He'd also shoot the Bulls chances at a max FA next year. Also, GSW is filled with guards, they have no need for Hinrich.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Doesn't Dalembert have a pretty bad contract? That he does. Which is why Philly wants to get rid of him now. Sactown wants him because Noc apparently hates it there and they need a 3rd big to go with Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) It's unbelievable that the Warriors continue to let Don Nelson run talented players out of there. True. Apparently, Mullin hates him, but he has some heavy clout higher up in the org. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) I know the Bulls are hard up against the Luxury tax and this could cost cap space next offseason, but Hinrich and Ellis's deals do match up. Hinrich + a $1.5 million piece (Aaron Gray or James Johnson) keeps the bulls balanced against the Tax this season as well, I think. The bulls could really, really use a backcourt scorer right now. Bulls wouldn't give up Johnson just yet. And Bulls fans didn't want an undersized SG who was more inefficient and didn't have a major injury, but now they want an undersized SG who can't shoot it as well and who dominates the ball John Salmons like? QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) If the Bulls could possibly freaking get Ellis for Kirk I'd scream with glee. I wouldn't. You'd be stuck with Ellis alot longer and his contract if I remember increases. Kirk decreases. Kirk would also be a fantastic combo guard. Too bad Salmons has played like poo forcing more minutes on Kirk. And too bad Rose doesn't just command the ball instead of dump the ball into Kirk and let Kirk run the offense like so many of you guys thought he would do with Mr. 15FGA left the squad. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) If nothing else I hope we at least call and ask. It'd be a hard matchup, no doubt, unless the Warriors really thought Kirk fit in well, which they might. Have we ever heard any talk of GSW having any interest in him? Again, I wouldn't. I rather have Joe Johnson. EDIT - Verified Ellis makes 11 million flat for the remainder of his contract. He's not a good distributor, again undersized, doesn't have range on his jumper, pretty bad defender and he depends on his speed for anything offense. Again, if you didn't want Ben, I don't know why you would want Ellis for more money.
  15. As stated earlier, he doesn't know how to pick jobs. He basically goes where he knows they will be rebuilding and are not expecting to do anything whatsoever. He's a lameduck type of coach.
  16. Larry Johnson signs with Cincy, Bowe is out. Wow, things are falling apart in KC. Hopefully Haley can turn it around.
  17. Oh btw, supposedly a three way may be brewing between the Kings, 76ers and Celtics. Nocioni to Boston Dalembert and Riddens I think to Sacramento Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine to 76ers. Another player is involved, but I can't remember for the life of me, who it is.
  18. He could start for the Knicks.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) 55 points is awesome, but what made my jaw drop is he had 29 in the 3rd quarter alone! How does that happen? Great shooting stroke, fast first step and a killer instinct.
  20. I'd like to take a flyer on him. Maybe KW does if he actually does trade Hudson.
  21. I don't think it's a good idea to go to the media outlets for things like this. If you're wrong, guess who guesses gets ridiculed? The same people who probably won't want to come out with any rumors in future dates. Also, I've always had the thought, that if national media gets ahold of it, that the other teams who really want said player, will try even harder to get things done faster. Hopefully it goes through, but I don't see it happening. It doesn't make enough sense from the Angels' perspective.
  22. Funny how Nolan Ryan credits Tom House for his pitching mechanics which are identical to Priors. He's making assumptions that Prior is swinging his leg too far out. When he compares Ryan and Prior, he then implies that the leg mechanics are fine, but now it's his arm even though Prior is repeating exactly what he did in the previous frame because they are the same frame.
  23. Not gonna happen. The Sox have other pressing needs and need to move money around. I'm sure KW would love to add him, but the reality is that it will be impossible.
  24. Savage has a much better chance of happening than Austin. If they threw Austin crazy cash and they gave him the schedule he wants, its not impossible. With that said, you bring in the old stars to get people watching, but then you have the newer guys go against them, and with a select few, you have them beat them. That's how the system works. You have to have legends beaten to build a new legend.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 08:16 AM) Really? Both redzone INTs Thursday were ill advised attempts to get the ball to a TE. The first one needed to go through 3 or 4 49ers, the last one was innaccurate by about 5 yards. Jim Miller is pretty interesting to listen to. He probably knows more about offense than any of us. He had a point the other day about the Bears rarely, if ever, using motion, but then he thought about it and said it would only screw them up more. Many think the Bears offense is too vanilla, but apparently according to Miller, Turner had to scale back the playbook because the personnel cannot handle it. The players evidently do not have the capacity to remember assignments to a larger group of plays. He said look at anytime they try something different, like the reverse against AZ. They lost 10 yards. Apparently a lot of offensive players are lacking in intelligence. That falls on the GM though then for getting guys who can't run the system. If you have a system in place, you should believe in it 100% and have players who can run all the plays you need to run. You should only make an exception if you are getting a special player.
