  1. Joe played great near the end there, but I'm skill skeptical. We all know he's prone to be a streaky hitter and has made adjustments at the plate before. Despite all my beratings, he's definitely earned a spot on the starting squad next year. What he does in the first half will determine whether we need to go out and find a replacement at the deadline or not. Joe was at the end of my rope for a long time this past season, this postseason earned him back an inch or two.
  2. Is anybody else worried about Brian Giles' age?? Dude's gonna be 35 in January. He just turned down an offer of 3/$21 from the Pads. Would you really want him on the books for $9-10 mil in a couple years? If we were the Yankees, I'd say go for it. Unfortunately we don't really have any room for aging, overpriced OFs in the sunset of their careers in our current configuration. If PK and Frank don't come back, then I could see it happening... but let's hope against that.
  3. Is a hot-stove sub-forum gonna open soon?
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) HIT #3 NEXT YEAR FOR US AND GET ANOTHER ONE.
  5. Would it be poetic for the Sox to win their last game by the same score they won their first game? (1-0)?
  6. Actually, right before this season, a buddy of mine who's a Cubs' fan and I made a wager. We each placed $100 on our respective teams. Whomever's team won a World Series first wins. I didn't expect a payout so soon! (that is IF we win... no jinxing)
  7. I was at Saturday's game and was seated in the vicinity of several Astros' fans, two groups of them to be exact. They were very respectful fans. They cheered for their team but were far from obnoxious, definitely nothing like being at a Sox-Cubs game even though this game means infinitely more. I guess one could say that it would be hard for them to have big mouths considering they were surrounded by a horde of Sox fans, but I still give them credit. On a side note, I actually saw two CARDINAL fans at the game... I guess they were a little hasty with their decision.
  8. Did anybody read that Southtown article with that snipit about Frank? Supposedly Peter Gammons reported just the other day that the A's are interested in Frank's services for next year. Wouldn't that be the ultimate mind****? Not only have the A's owned us, if they had Frank batting against us? I think I'd just about cry. I'm hoping Frank plays 2 more years on the Southside, then retires.
  9. BTW... I think the odds are about even here: Powerball jackpot is up to $340 million.
  10. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) i received this from deb in reply to my email.... You should’ve received the following email last night from your new sales representative: Thank you for your interest in our on-line 2006 season tickets/World Series offer. As you might imagine we have received an overwhelming response and the demand for World Series tickets far exceeds what we have available. We are in the process of calling everyone whose order we can fill in order to confirm seat location and other details. Based on the number of orders we have already received, we will not be able to fill all orders. If you have not spoken with someone in our sales department by Friday at noon, it is highly unlikely that we will be able to fulfill your request. Once it is clear that we are not able to fulfill your request, we will refund the online fee to your credit card. As a reminder, by submitting your deposit online you acknowledged that World Series tickets are limited, and your offer to purchase 2006 season tickets and 2005 World Series tickets may not be accepted by the Chicago White Sox, in its discretion. Your order is not accepted until you have been contacted by an account executive, selected a seat location, your credit card has been charged and the charge of your credit card has been authorized by the applicable network. We appreciate your patience and your enthusiasm for the White Sox, and we hope you’ll continue to support us as we work to bring a World Series Championship to Chicago. Please note that most of those that came to U.S. Cellular Field were picking up already-placed orders, or solely putting in a request (as you did online), Those requests were and are still be filled first-come, first-served. Their requests did not guarantee World Series tickets – just as the online requests did not as well. We are making every effort to contact everyone by Friday. Thank you for your patience. I got just about the same email. So now I'm gonna be torn between waiting on a call (which I'm assuming I CANNOT miss lest I lose my spot in line) and trying to score some "decently" priced tickets. The agony...
  11. After the rash of injuries to the Cards plus the Astros' dominant Big 3 (+ Lidge), I was all for the Sox playing the Cards. However, one of my Cardinal friends pointed out to me one interesting stat. Yadier Molina has thrown out like 63% of would be basestealers. In addition, Carpenter has only allowed one stolen base all season... a fluke to Derek Lowe. This would definitely cut into our style of play with Pods' legs seemingly healthy again. So for me, it's back to a toss up.
  12. If we get screwed out of WS tickets... add my name to the list of the pissed.
  13. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) We can't rule out the Yank$ either. Despite the likelihood he'll win the AL MVP this year there are already grumblings in NYC that ARod could be headed out. His failure to emerge as Mr Oct 2 yrs in a row doesn't sit well with the fans there. The could trade ARod + $50M to to free up cash for Kong. As if freeing up cash has ever been a necc for them The New York papers (I know, how accurate, right?) are speculating that the Yanks move Sheffield this offseason. They have to resign Matsui, and they'll have to sign as many relief pitchers as possible, especially since Gordon is leaving and looking for a closing job. One paper wanted Vernon Wells, but I don't think the Jays would bite on that. Another says Sheff for Rowand and prospects. I think Rowand plus Marte would do it. No, it's not fair value, but they are trying to get younger and those two would fill voids for the Yanks. Do I want Sheffield? Not really, not at his age. He's still a great player but is bound to start seeing a decline in production sometime soon. We'd be putting the onus on the immediate future, not that there's anything wrong with that...just not my style. I also remember that during the year, Sheffield had some hissy fit because his name came up in trade rumors and supposedly said he wouldn't play for any other team. Hmm... anyway, just a thought.
  14. Is Colon even going to be able to pitch after having to leave tonight's game injured?
  15. Yeah I remember Erik Asillyass ruthlessly bashing the White Sox. Every time I heard him on the radio (usually as a sit in for Dan Patrick), he would rip into the WSox. Somebody really needs to let him have it when he's on the national radio again, and then somebody else should call in, and someone else, etc.
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) ....and went on BBT to un-confirm his choice, and change it to the Red Sox. Wait... he changed his mind AGAIN? From what I understand, he initially went on the air saying he picked the White Sox, then it was reported that he changed his decision and picked the BoSox. Then, right before the pregame show on the M,J, and H show, they questioned him about it. He made some safe comments and then reiterated that he chooses the White Sox. So AFTER that but before the game (a matter of maybe 2 hours), he again switched hats?? If that's true... unbelievable. :headshake
  17. While Gammons doesn't especially impress me, he did go on the Mac, Jurko, and Harry show before the first game and confirm his White Sox choice.
  18. Normally I would be a little angry at Rowand... but in this case it's speeding the game up, so I guess I can live with it.
  19. I hope they're gonna be replaying the Sox charging the field after the game on whitesox.com since I cannot currently watch the game.
  20. I'm surprised Dye hasn't chased all those low and away balls.
  21. They should probably be up there swinging for the fences. I mean we'll see alot of popouts, but if anybody gets on base it's not like they're coming home anyway.
  22. And of course the following year, Pods, Dye, and Iguchi will all be FA's. The Sox bring up Owens/Sweeney/whatever other minor league OFer to replace them, Sox sign Alfonso Soriano... ...and Melvin Mora. If only those OFers would pan out, it wouldn't be so far-fetched... sigh.
