  1. Reinsdorf and Boyer are on now.
  2. Farmio is painful. But he does have baseball pants.
  3. I say we trade Marte, Crede and Timo to the Yanks for A-Rod and have them pay the balance of his salary. These trades are always the same ... our bad guys for the other teams' good guys.
  4. The only two promotions that have actually brought in more fans are Half-Price Mondays and Fireworks Saturdays. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and even some Friday crowds are horrible and they will always be. The Sox never drew on those days. The Sox fan base is in the suburbs. Try leaving work in Arlington Heights at 5pm, driving to Lombard to pick up the wife and kids and then heading down to the Cell on a Tuesday against the Royals. It just doesn't happen for most fans. Also the 2-for-1 upper deck thing on Tuesdays appears to be a bit of a bust. Fans want to sit downstairs.
  5. I'm going Saturday and it should be close to a sell out. As for this article, it drives me crazy because we b**** and b**** about national media coverage and when we get it, the attendance is what we get an article about. I also feel it brings the team down when they get asked about attendance. It will only get worse. Next week vs. Royals, we'll be lucky to draw 70,000. The Cubs being in this town makes it easy to compare and always makes us look bad. I wish the media would not do the comparison. Apples and Oranges if you ask me. Truth: There are more Cub fans in the world than Sox fans Truth: Wrigley Field is a tourist destination Truth: You can walk out of the game and across the street to 20 bars/restaurants Truth: On non-game days, Wrigleyville bars still have very good crowds Truth: Attendance at Sox games is up this year Truth: We don't get less wins or more losses if we don't fill the park up Truth: This topic has been beaten to death
  6. Definitely a backup 1B. We have lost at least one game this year because Ozzie didn't pinch run for Slow Poke Pauly.
  7. Don't know if anyone heard that Terry Boers on the Score basically ripped the Sox and said that nationally absolutely no one would care if this team went to the World Series. Said the ratings would be abysmal for the White Sox in the World Series and network execs would be dreading the Sox going to the fall classic. Said of all of the old-time historic teams, the Sox have nothing that makes them likable or unique. Said the current team couldn't get recognized anywhere if they weren't on the field wearing their uniform.
  8. Frank needs to be able to move around the bases an entire game without something happening. Personally, I love Frank and hope he stays here and finishes his career here. But, I think Ozzie wouldn't mind Frank sent away.
  9. All of them are bad, bad, bad. They don't even highlght anything about the baseball team.
  10. You want disrespect, wait until today, tomorrow and Wednesday when we get our attendance directly compared to the Cubs who are at home the same three days. We are going to get torched about that.
  11. I was very glad to hear that Telander is off the air. I have said since his show came on the air that he is horrible. His show had absolutely no chemistry. He also blatantly rooted for the Cubs as most columnists do because they feel the story is better with Wrigley, the curse, the neighborhood than the Southside. I really thought Telander was unlistenable. I don't like MJH much either. McNeil is always grinding an axe against the Score. Jurko fakes his way through sports talk, but he really doesn't say anything of substance. Harry is such a kiss ass his credibility is that of Ron Santo giving insight on any topic.
  12. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) El Duque MUST start in the playoffs if we go (I aint jinxing nobody.) Do you really want Garland pitching in the playoffs steadily? Buehrle, Garcia, El Duque and Count. Garland will hopefully get his playoff starts some time or another. But if we go this year, we gotta grab the bull by the horns and win it all.. we cant make dumb mistakes by giving reps to Garland just so he knows what it's like to start a playoff game. Big Jon will be huge in relief for us hopefully. If Garland wins 18-20 games, he deserves the opportunity to start in the playoffs.
  13. Ok, I was hoping it was just that. As much as Hernandez frustrates me with his slow game and how he has to always get out of jams, I loved his enthusiasm when he was on base yesterday. It was like he remembered what it was like to play complete baseball.
  14. Why was Hernandez arguing with Don Cooper and Ozzie on the bench last night? It seemed to be pretty heated.
  15. I am hoping for the short term at least that Cotts gets a shot as the lefty set up man. Marte has flat out not done the job this year. Politte has also been very effective in the righty set up man role. Problem is we have waaaaaay too many mop up guys now. Shingo, Viz, perhaps now Marte.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) If Iguchi goes down, you might get a surprise call up. We need someone who can play 1B, so my guess would be the Greatest, Greg Norton. It also helps that he plays 3B too. Greg Norton starts every at bat, 0-2. He Ks way too much. Gooch going down could really hurt us. He is the perfect #2 hitter. Takes pitches, goes the other way, makes good contact. Nowhere in those statements is Juan Uribe' approach at the plate.
  17. Dude, I'll give you some love for your list. Very creative. I especially like the ones where you light up Marte ... just like opposing teams have been lighting his horrible ass up. I cringe every time Ozzie goes to him no matter how poorly he pitched the day before. Marte must have some real compromising pictures of Ozzie. Either that or Timo made copies of the ones he has of Ozzie and gave them to Marte.
  18. Ouch! I remember that game against the Yanks. I believe that Cotts pitched that day. The Sox went up in the first inning and then the Yanks just teed off. I assume that if we win the first two against the Twins in September and we are only 2 games up at the time, Ozzie will do what he can to sweep. Hopefully.
  19. If the bases were loaded and the game tied with two outs in the ninth inning, I would still want Big Frank up. He hasn't always been clutch, but his presence is enough to scare pitchers into throwing bad pitches and possibly walking him or because he is so strong he can muscle a bad pitch just over the infielders' heads for a hit to score the winning run. JMO
  20. This is why seeing every team in a four or five year rotation is a GOOD thing. Just wait, just wait, until the feeding frenzy this weekend with Red Sox/Cubs. The Boston fans will be all over that neighborhood.
  21. It's a good point. I just want this team to go for the kill when it has the chance. But Ozzie doesn't always do it. In Game 3 at Wrigley, he did put his best line up out there behind BMac. Hopefully our B team can get a sweep soon.
  22. That quote actually seems right on the money. As the neighborhoods south of the city improve so will the attendance at the Cell. But the image of that area has had to fight through a lot in the past and many of the Sox fans do live in the suburbs. I would guess there are more Sox fans in a 2-square mile area in Arlington Heights than in the 2-square mile area currently around the Cell.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) I dont know why everyone is b****ing about the attendance. I for one, like it when the park isnt packed. Its easier for me to get off the EL, there are less fair weather fans who dont know what the f they are doing at baseball games. And I can get to the beer/food lines quicker. I like being able to move around on the concourse, and I like it when there arent 10 people STANDING in the aisles waiting for the beer man in the middle of an inning. I would rather have 20,000 good solid sox fans than 38,000 f***ing yahoo's That is not a good arguement. More fans in the park = more $ the club can spend on payroll. Personally, I love going to a game when I know it's going to be packed. Besides, even though they are professional and get paid for it, players want a full house as well. Do you think they get up the same for an April afternoon game against the Royals when there might be 6000 fans there vs. a packed house against the Twins, Cubs, Red Sox, Yanks? I'm not complaining about attendance, but the atmosphere in the park does affect the players.
  24. He definitely has more trust in Timo than he has in Iguchi. Tadahito sits twice a week. I know he's a rookie, but he's also our best player.
  25. I certainly hope so. The August schedule will determine our season. We play the Yanks, BoSox, and Twins 15 straight games. We had better play our best lineups and play smart baseball or we are going to get drilled during that stretch.
