  1. Kiley specifically may now have better info sources to pull on fresh out of a front office, but after last 2 years I don't really trust that people have good gauges on sox draft preferences. I mean, what we'd think at this point would be: - Emphasis on advanced approach at plate with power - Tend to pick from schools with trackman/statcast data - Confident they can get average defensive players to stick in more valuable positions - Value college relievers - Power arms? Can't tell if this is real or just a factor of going after relievers But what theoretically we should also expect this year: - A shift toward younger players as we have been very college heavy and Hostetler has mentioned as such - A move away from college outfielders where we have a huge bottleneck but would these tendencies show up in the first pick? Who knows. (College relievers, for instance, would not)
  2. I'm definitely out on tanking next year btw. This crap is all out of sorts. THere is no way the marginal value of moving from effectively 10 to 6 is worth literally sabotaging the game of basketball. Would rather move to phase two of trying to accumulate good assets and wait for trade opportunities.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:48 AM) It seems like arms are going to be the top of this class, we should not be foolish and reach for a lesser player out of need. With a top 5 pick we should take the best talent. I think people throw around BPA in the mlb draft as if there is way more certainty around it then there is.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) So, how many of you are willing to give Lavine the max? Not I. I wish we could use him to trade up honestly. Not a fan of his game at all. I think he could have a long career floating around as a Jamal Crawford type, but it's going to take him years to realize he's not gonna be the guy.
  5. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:37 AM) Ever attend a midsummer day game when it is 100 degrees and your seat has no shade? That is just as miserable as the cold. Naw no way. Those games are rough, but you can go places in the stadium for relief that are fun. In April you go to the bathroom.
  6. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:35 AM) Is the strike out rate calculated as a percentage of plate appearances, rather than "at bats"? If so, you are correct. In any case, that's impressive, relative to his home run rate. Strike out rate is by PAs, not ABs. He had just as much of a chance to k when he walked as when he hit or ground out, so PA is more accurate.
  7. I'd be really thrilled with Mize, just don't think he's there. McClanahan is nice, just don't really want a TJ guy. There are also just a lot of high school pitchers that are quality, and not so many position players. So it's a question of getting the top of a pretty stocked class, or getting the top of a weak class.
  8. Are any other Bears fans sorta unexcited about this draft? Like there's one scenario where it goes great (Chubb), then probably good (Fitzpatrick), then okay, I guess (Nelson), then well if we have to (Smith, Edmunds). Add to that the Bears are once again not the "fulcrum" pick. Though there are teams that are keen to trade up, the bears are not the team ahead of teams that people worry about. Boring.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:23 AM) I don't know. I think this week is worse than last week. Last week was March. And it won't eliminate all bad weather, it's just intended to reduce the amount of times truly terrible weather occurs on home ball games.
  10. I've always wanted to run the analysis of suspended games due to weather by week in april. I heavily believe the first week would be the worst, and it having significant dips each week. Meaning if sox always had home opener in second week of april it would be a big enough improvement to enact that policy.
  11. And their fourth quarter lineup... I mean seriously. How do teams that are trying lose to that? Wouldn’t be surprised if Lauri is shut down. This is a joke.
  12. Is there a financial reason we didn’t break camp with a Ross/Rondon/Cedeno?
  13. Really disappointed in Infante and especially Minaya whom I thought would take a step forward. Stuff looks real off.
  14. Kalapse over here whistle-shaming
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 01:12 PM) It was touched on in the mock draft snippet, but Bohm truly fits the mold of the organization's draft trends of late. Advanced college hitter with great plate discipline and power. Bohm is trending up in all aspects and signs point to top half of the 1st round. I think the only question is the ability to stick at 3B. If he could be at least average there, I would be on board. Does Wichita State have trackman set-up? Then the stars would really align.
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 08:50 PM) Only the Bulls.. Only hope now is Mavs somehow beat Wolves (highly unlikely) to have a chance of at least the #5 spot. Otherwise, best I see them doing is #6 (barring lottery odds of course). All things considered, I'd be pretty happy with 6. I think we'll get an exciting player there.
  17. I think this stuff makes baseball fun, and its not like anyone threw a cleat up or hit somebody in the head. Applause all around. Though whistling is annoying so Boston should try maybe clapping like a normal person.
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 11:10 AM) It seems like in today's game, if you're a hitting catcher you become a first baseman. Maybe that's deflating the price of a catcher? Certainly seems so. For example, do you think Gary Sanchez hits free agency as a catcher still?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 10:50 AM) Infield and Catcher are much more scary. I am not sure if we have another guy in the system that actually projects to be a starting catcher defensively, with any real chance to hit at the major league level. Catchers have been surprisingly affordable on market, I'm okay that we'll find what we need there. Granted sox have been horrible at pro scouting catchers (to perform while a white sox I guess)
  20. I think one thing to keep in mind per ss2k5's point is the difference is sox legit need 3 starters out of that group whereas you could really only say that about padres. I still do like our OF depth and think Luis Gonzalez will be the big punch up guy we are looking for. Much more meh on our MI guys that are versatile. A few true CF prospects, but few SS that we could move wherever needed.
  21. BA was the high group on Singer for a while so it's notable to see that correction. I don't know about our pick of McClanahan. I love the stuff, I think he'd bein majors soon. I don't know that the sox would take a TJ guy. I still think sox may cut a deal with Turang and really play deep in this draft.
  22. 6 mound visits has struck me as artificially low. I was on Manfred's side when he framed his goal as to reduce the amount of downtime during a game. But the crusade to shorten up extra inning games especially with something so illogical (baserunner just appearing on 2nd) has really annoyed me.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 04:51 PM) Hollywood. Liberals. Elites. Silicon Valley minus Peter Thiel (of course, tax policy runs counter.) Net neutrality. Sanctuary cities. rock and roller cola wars I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE
  24. I think sox are a bit short on high ceiling bats and uber athletes, but I do think they have a good amount of mlb playable bats with passable defense. So depth wise I think we will be there, just need to find some elite production somewhere.
  25. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 07:22 AM) I think Beer can still go first round with a strong second half to this college season. He could very well end up with Rooker type numbers by season’s end and he’s a year younger than Rooker at the time of the draft. Maybe he figured something out? Will see.. http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc...e207677944.html Yeah I think he can go into the late first too. But he's not going top ten.
