  1. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) I like the idea of expansion and realignment, and the referenced proposal is pretty good. I'm on the fence about the DH. I see the reasoning for the DH, but at the same time I think having the pitchers bat adds a managerial aspect which I think enhances the game. If push came to shove, though, I would probably agree to leave it the way it is with the DH in the AL only. One thing that I've not seen thrown out there is the idea of an EH vs. the DH. Have the pitchers hit (or attempt to...at least get in the box with a bat) and have a "DH" as well. So you'd have 10 hitters. I'm not sure that would work, but it would keep the DH and keep the spot in the lineup where the manager would have to be creative at times. I'd rather just remove the pitching position from the hitting lineup entirely so only 8 players bat.
  2. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) IMO the extra "strategy" of NL baseball is way overblown (in those situations the right move is obvious the majority of the time). It's also artificial, it wouldn't exist if pitchers were remotely competent hitters. And there's nothing exciting about seeing a team walk the 8th hitter to kill a rally with 2 outs. It's novelty but so is baseball. I don't want the DH removed in AL, I just think it's fun how baseball has real meaningful differences between NL and AL as opposed to Eastern/Western:NFC/AFC conferences.
  3. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/base...jEvMCDGeZjmu.97 2 doubles last night adds to his triple and home run already. Probably not own threadworthy but we’re in offseason mode.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Honestly...how does this have any bearing on Gar or Pax or anyone else. This was two players getting into it and one ultimately snapped. Hey man, if Paxson can punch someone in the face why can't Bobby.
  5. Will be interesting to see if Padres try to acquire so many rule 5 picks again or if they feel need to start protecting more of their players.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Post season check in on Micker http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/258...as-strong-2017/ "bumped his hand"
  7. Portis may not be a building block but there were times in the celts playoff series he looked like the best young player on the floor. Not someone in our situation you want to be forced to give away. I do think a lengthy suspension is necessary and I also like putting him down in G League. However, I think if Niko files a battery? charge it's warranted and I wouldn't blame him. He obviously won't.
  8. Hard not to watch Frazier having time of his life and not root for him...Yankees and all

  10. So Chams is reporting portis and niko fought in practice and Niko is in hospital
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) So we start this proposal with Narvaez to allow them to maintain depth, and then add in something of nonzero but not huge value in addition? Probably have to be something from the lower minors, like a recent 3rd or 4th round pick or something like that? I agree with the quoted poster, when have Dodgers cared about having a glut of position players? I just don't see them getting any benefit out of spreading themselves out when Grandal > Narvaez and they'll just use the 10 day DL to make it work.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) What's the mascot look like for a "something or others" ? Lyle Mouton actually.
  13. I just think considering the hellfit the orioles threw there'd be no way in hell the league could get that past the yankees ownership (mets they could if they threw money at them).
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) Right, because we've never taken games away, we've only ever added them. So all the records only ever INCREASE. How many homeruns should a guy have to hit in a 154 game season to be considered equal to the 162 game record? Also, coverage is DRASTICALLY different than it was in 1961. I'd say 69. Barry Bonds had 68 on game 154. But really I'd probably go with 61.
  15. That said adding expansion into a juiced ball era could lead to some major offense.
  16. It's meaningless but I do enjoy the different flavors of AL and NL teams. Expansion. Ehhh. I don't know. Is it really time? IN the expansion happy 90s they went after all of these emerging markets that for the most part still can't support a team. Certainly in theory it makes sense that Nashville or Raleigh are on their way to doing it, or obviously canada. But when it's actually time to consistently support seems unlikely.
  17. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 06:21 AM) Nothing forces him to take a lead off.... I have no idea why this is even a debate. If he’s too slow to properly get back to the bag, maybe he needs to shorten his lead off. Any rule will just encourage bigger lead offs then pitchers are going to spend even more time trying to shorten leads and pick guys off which is bad for watchability of games. I don't think you understand what happened.
  18. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 15, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) Dear Dowell Loggains: Please take the kid gloves off of Trubisky. You're getting s***canned at the end of the season anyway. With where the Bears are, wins are bad for the franchise, so please, let's open up the playbook. Sincerely, Jack Parkman Do you really think Dowell Loggains, who has been criticized for being too pass happy with Barkley and Hoyer, is the one deciding to have an 80/20 pass ratio?
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 15, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) 2 month old baby. Tragic. Terrible
  20. So tiring of rooting for the same types of teams and coaches for 30 years.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) <!--quoteo(post=3569011:date=Oct 13, 2017 -> 06:16 PM:name=hi8is)-->QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) <!--quotec-->Well, for starters - the title of that article is: This article really provided nothing new. We all know there really isn't anything compared to this. I mean, I disagree. Everything we've heard to date hasn't sounded that different than the Red Sox. So to keep hearing "this is much bigger" means there is either a much larger scale of the same thing or much bigger issues we don't know about.
  22. Happy Saturday reading Gar fans! http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/10/14/has-...riors-rotation/
