QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) On first thought, I hate to waste any draft pick on a unrestricted free agent in a rebuilding year, but it can only help Trubisky, and his development is all that matters. It's also conditional and my impression is they only give up a 7th if he's good. Makes sense for Chargers, they are already struggling to get Mike Williams to field.
-
Well, I hope he's good.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah, there is no way the Indians pick up that option. He is definitely intriguing. Just not sure he can be counted on to stay healthy. But maybe someone needs to keep Tilson company on the dl? You know who else couldn't stay healthy and joined White Sox for their age 31 season? Jermaine Dye.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) I like the idea of Michael Brantley. I also initially read this as Milton Bradley and almost s*** myself. Didn't soxtalk have a milton bradley phase at some point? Like Oakland As era?
-
Has anyone talked about Michael Brantley? While I know we'd like to have LF for our multiple hitters that have no positions, it could be an interesting candidate if the contract price is right. Now, if his range suddenly got better from all his injuries, we could even try to say he's a CFer!

I'll bite. I only watched first half but Lauri was pretty exciting. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) Over the last 17 years, dating back to when the Sox "got good," I think they've traded away all of like 3-5 prospects that really hurt at all. I'm just wondering why no one here is b****ing about the Sox trading for Brett Myers in 2012. Chris Devenski has only put up 4.3 WAR over his first two seasons as a reliever. There are times you trade away prospects who are toolsheds, and 9 times out of 10 those guys flare out almost immediately. Not having Tatis sucks, but it is what it is. Pretty bad example. People hated the Myers deal. Not because of devenski maybe, but still.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) We did. Sorry you were under a rock when Butlers trainer blasted Garpax last year, but that article basically says "We had injuries, a normal parting with Thibs, and players are divas" There is little to no criticism of how terrible the actual trade with the Thunder was, how they actually admitted they took the first deal offered for Butler last summer, how many truly terrible personnel moves they made to get them to the point that they are at right now. Nothing Tbh the real story is not able to be written by a guy like Friedell who still needs to keep some doors open for access. -
I'm generally supportive of Pace, but it really grates me seeing the Eagles hire Kellly when we hired Trestman, go to Playoffs twice, Fire Kelly and "rebuild", find a franchise QB and basically be on way to playoffs already while Bears are *still* a year away really grates me. I can see us in this Oakland Raiders rebuild mode, but I don't understand how other teams have put the pieces back together so much faster.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) I watched Halt and Catch Fire over the summer and this final season. Gotta say the show actually developed over the four years that it was on very well. It was the tech age version of Mad Men and stayed with the premise throughout. Totally agree. Was a hard show to commit to as there was basically no conversation (you are basically only person I know who watched it), but I was really sad after the last episode ended. I actually thought last year was a good ending to the series but was glad to get one more. Was happy Donna was rehabbed (no pun intended) as a character toward the end. I basically just liked every one of them at the end, and enjoyed watching them despite little "plot". And that they were always near but never created the actual things that took off. Made it fun and like Silicon Valley.

Important part of the article, which, again that resolution was soundly defeated. This won:

Cool. But frankly this is Bernie's party now: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpo...m=.e07bbeb85fb5

I'd feel it was somewhat possible if we still had Kahnle on team to trade, but to acquire Joc with what we have means dipping into the prospect bin.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) I'be heard stories about guys trying to text him, and I know it's 2017, but has anyone tried, I don't know, going to see him in person? The other part of that quote leads me to believe that despite Bobby punching and injuring Niko the locker room is backing Portis. -
Sorry to folks who paid for last year and hate these options. I actually think I'm more likely to get a package again with the 20 game option and that value package.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) What you've got to hope is a Jared Goff like situation here. Goff was completely overmatched in the 7 games he started in 2016, he was legitimately terrible. Like, Trubisky's current passer rating is 19 points ahead of Goff in 2016 terrible. Goff was inexperienced and coming out of a small school so he had never played against that kind of talent. This year, including a few trades and an upgraded roster around him, he's currently 6th in the NFL in Passing Yards, 6th in yards/attempt, 14th in quarterback rating. He's not the best QB in the league, but he's playing like a legit starter on a 5-2, top of the division team. That's where you hope Trubisky can get within a year. Gonna stand up for Cal here...not that small of a school. Maybe you were thinking Wentz? Goff was playing in as silly-simple an offense as ours is last year, but he was at least getting 25ish attempts per game if not more, except the last game where maybe it was partial, hard to tell.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) I don't even know how you evaluate this offense. Glennon played bad, but literally, look at Trubisky. Only thing he has done is not turn it over as much and that probably has more to do with the fact that we barely let him drop back (and I feel half of the time Trubisky gets sacked because he makes "no decision"). It literally seems that the only way he's throwing the ball is if a guy is wide open. If the Bears wanted to have a passing game then I'll evaluate Trubisky. They don't want a passing game. The Minnesota game he was fine against a pretty good defense. Since then John Fox has decided that running the ball will be the whole offense. It's "worked" due to our defense so congrats to him. But consistently putting him in 3rd and longs as his only passing situations where teams blitz and press receivers who can't release and then saying "man he looks bad" isn't really interesting to me. Has he been given the chance to have 3 straight passes in a series? He had 12 passing plays called in an entire game. Good way for Trubisky to get as many attempts as glennon is to immediately turn over ball multiple times and have us behind 17-0. Maybe this is what we'd look like with a Glennon who didn't turn the ball over.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) 2 of the good Chiefs games I have missed because they've been buried on Thursday nights. That Chiefs/Texans game wasn't as close as the score. Not every close game is exciting or blowout boring. Chiefs/Texans had a lot of fun moments.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) There has not been a lot of exciting games this season, and Rodgers being out makes that worse. Depends, if you've watched every chiefs and texans game post watson it's been pretty exciting. Main stuff that hurts is Carr/Mariota have been beat up. Eagles and Rams, two teams that haven't had much national love, have also been pretty fun. Instead NFL has bet a lot early on on staple franchises like Bears/Giants/etc and it hasn't paid off.
-
They should not have relied on Meredith but I think it's underrated how big of a loss that was. They filled out the rest with a bunch of slot guys and hoped White could take a step. So when Cam/White went down, you had a guy that was supposed to be a really good slot player be your #1. But, they could have more of a pass game if they wanted. Their passing offense to the Rbs under glennon wasn't terrible. But their refusal to threaten to throw during 1st and 2nd down has forced the WRs to run longer, vertical routes which they aren't that good at instead of some slants and mid-field work to get a rhythm going.

So Mizzou ended up losing the scrimmage by 6 but it sounds like it was invaluable experience to get before your first game. Tilmon had really solid reviews but also amazingly fouled out when 7 fouls were allowed with like 10 minutes left in 2nd half lol. Kassius Robertson and Jordan Barnett, both seniors, are going to be huge for how far this team goes. Both scored very efficiently. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 21, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) There is a new report that later the same day Trump boasted about calling all the Gold Star families, and other Presidents did not, his staff contacted the Pentagon to get the names and family member numbers of those killed so he could contact some more that he had apparently "missed." They know he lies and lies and lies, but do nothing about it, but spin it, or act like it doesn't happen. I hope they all eventually pay for their actions or non actions. They won't. If we survive this nightmare, they will all become TV contributors for their "political insight" or become Harvard fellows I guess.

Bears defense has been good enough for about a year now (I feel like end of october was turning point) that even with our offense I feel we could have a winning record save for one thing holding us back: our terrible terrible turnover ratio. It's amazing how much turnovers help. And good special teams.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) Martavis Bryant still pushing for a trade. Maybe Pace can pull it off lol or how about Glennon to AZ for Fitzgerald haha I crack myself up I just don't see why Pitt would. Sure he's disgruntled, but to this point he's still playing. The Steelers are 5-2 and he's a big part of offense.

You ain’t kiddin. Offense has barely been on field
