The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Most definitely. However, if this season is a sign of things to come for Miguel Cabrera, he may be on that route. This will be the first year of his career since 2004 (first full season) that Miguel Cabrera did not get an MVP vote. So he had about 2 years more of top of league play. I think he will scrape out at least 2 more .900 OPS years.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) I think the Tigers will finish the season unwon. Me too. They have absolutely given up and still are a bunch of vets that arent "playing for their lives"

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
Melky was the only thing fun about this team for 2.5 years. He loved playing baseball visibly so much. I'd love that back, but I hate getting a guy one year too late. Paul Konerko, I just wanted him to retire as a sox. But I didn't enjoy that last year at all.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
Bears, as a reminder, were hoping to land Cooter as QB coach when we hired Gase. Lost him to Lions. That would have been dream to get him to OC after Gase left, and then do the Tampa Bay Dirk Koetter move with Fox.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Isn't McDaniels unstable though? He was a poor head coach in Denver and drafted Tebow in the first round. He reminds me of Lane Kiffin. Probably deserves another shot but I don't want to be the one that gives it to em.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Wasn't his curveball supposed to be his best pitch in the minors? I'm not disagreeing with you on how it's looked for us, but I swear that everything I've read listed it as plus plus. I remember comments when he was in high school on how it was the best amateur curve people have ever seen. I guess the good news is if he doesn't get a good curve off it is not hanging in the zone...it's hitting the dirt 5 feet in front of the batter.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
He may end up with the worst back half of a hall of fame career ever right?

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) That .186 BABIP and 90% LOB isn't going to last and I'd like to see him get more Ks (though the swinging strike% seems fine) but obviously it's hard not to be encouraged by him so far. The lack of walks is nice to see, though when he misses his location he seems to miss by a lot. The curveball doesn't look that great but that might not matter because his changeup looks really good. Yeah this is true. When he gets to 3 balls, maybe he goes for locations he knows he can hit. But may leave him tendencies that hitters exploit. Overall, if you'd have told me that this is how giolito would look in the bigs after his April, I'd have obviously been very happy.

I think giolito will be in line for some blowouts if he can't locate his offspeed continously. What gives me hope is he isn't having fine games when he has his stuff, he's having dominant games when he does. His fine games are just working with fastball changeup. I mean, being able to consistently find his curve isn't a small step, but he hasn't lost fastball location throughout an entire game. That's really great.

2018 pitching staff
I don't think harvey will be much of a contract tbh. Will certainly eat crow if he has a healthy 2018 leading up to it, but i would...bet against it.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
Yeah, I think I'll take Adam dunn, but it really goes to show that with just more walks Davidson could feasibly hit 2012 adam dunn level.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) Sam Miller is a god among baseball writers and reading ESPN commenters who just don't *get* it is one of my favorite pastimes. I know, it's brutal.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2074499...home-run-hitter Fun article. This year is so weird. I think Matt has a lot to be proud of himself for after the career he has had, but for him to be a big leaguer past this season he has to get his walk totals up to what they were in the minors.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:43 PM) Haha, I figured as much but figured I'd ask. Basically he gets hidden for a few days and you think "he can do it" but any legit pressure and he has come up short a lot.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
Weirdest part has to be these rookies coming up and continously breaking "fastest rate" records for home runs. The top line guys don't seem that out of the ordinary. But yeah, if ANderson was here in 2012 he'd probably have 8 home runs.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
the more years go by, the better Krause looks. Who knows how it would affected his roster decisions, but he would have been much harder to vilify had he had today's roster cost certainty.
