  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) If they could manage to get lucky in the health column, they could surprise. Im not saying playoffs(although crazy things happen in the NFL every year), but definitely better than 3 or 6 wins. Maybe just like having a couple weeks where we have "playoff scenarios" past november I guess.
  2. Maybe I haven't squared up with how little our WR and QB talent (with Glennon not Trubs tha God) will hurt our offense or schedule, but I am heading into this season feeling pretty positive. I don't know. I just think we could really inflate our performance with power run offense plus TE pass game, and a top 10 defense.

TBH I think Yolmer is now a tier above Saladino/Engel. Saladino I think is just destroyed due to injuries. Engel may survive more in the bigs just due to our lack of CF options.
  4. The sox haven't tried enough high school pitchers over HS 15 years to have a rightful claim to say they are bad at it. They have failed with just as many college pitchers. They have failed with college hitters. They have failed with HS hitters. HS pitchers are riskier bets and I can't say I'd be thrilled to take a HS pitcher in top 5 over the other types (College P, HS position, College position), but in that 11-25 range I'd be happy to try HS pitchers more. We didn't draft that many HS pitchers because we were too cheap to pay up for them. We drafted a lot of bad college pitchers because we were too cheap to pay for better. The new structure should help us a lot and get a better sense of how much was bad player dev and how much was poor talent from 2000-2012.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) In Weeks 3-6, the Dolphins go from LA to New York to London then a home game in Miami with no break. I think the best option would have been to play at a neutral site this weekend, but then the Dolphins would have six home games because of the London game. While that sucks (dolphins home games), maybe, just maybe this incredibly rich league could have created some sort of compensation scheme or create an insurance program so they don't need to compromise the product/health of players.

Just goes to show how much a legit plus tool like fielding will get you in terms of fan patience while still a project at the plate. Just being "passable" at a position like CF, such as May, gets you no where. Adam's fall was disappointing. Glad he got a chance, but I don't think his constant tinkering will ever work.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 10:19 PM) This sucks. Went from 4-6 games a day down to one. Sad panda. Does anyone broadcast winter ball from the Caribbean or Oz? Would be awesome to watch some baseball over the winter. I miss baseball way too much during the off season. My impression is that those games are basically played in back lots. Maybe the Mexican league has some fanfare.
  8. I went to look at the Padres stats thinking maybe they've had a few career years but nope, they have 1 guy with over 100 games played and over .800 OPS. Their run differential is pretty terrible, so they are actually very lucky this year. I'd be kinda pissed if I was a pads fan, which don't exist.
  9. It is amazing to me how bad the Giants are. I kept thinking they'd turn it around. It's amazing how much it holds true that the worst team in the league is so often one that thought they'd compete. Who'd have believed me if I said the Giants would finish worse than the Padres in spring training? Or that the Padres would just barely hanging on to a protected pick with 1 month left in the season? Baseball man.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) Drafting early round college relievers (who do not project as pro starters) another bad habit that needs to be expunged. Who are you referring to?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) Bucs-Dolphins postponed to Week 11 due to Hurricane Irma. Obviously they couldn't play in Miami, but now both teams have to play 16 straight weeks without a bye. Player safety!!! Absolutely brutal, especially for 2 playoff-aspirational teams
  12. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) His English is pretty advanced. Just in interviews I've heard he's fluent. He has a fairly thick accent but he uses slang and colloquialisms at times. It's another pretty impressive thing about him, just picking up the language like that in a couple years. Yeah not taking anything away from him, just know from his garfein interview he has only been learning for a few years and considering how shy some ESL speakers are in interview settings.
  13. Rob Brantley looks like extra #56 in a WWII movie
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Did the Sox get rid of their pinstripes? They exist in interviews at least. Been a while for a game though.
  15. pretty impressive him taking this interview while still learning English.
  16. Eloy is on tv
  17. Moncada had a single
  18. Davidson has a knack for game changing home runs.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) Plus he was an absolute asshole on top of being f***ing awful. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/navarja01.shtml Kinda surprised Holland's was "only" 6.2 ERA
  20. Was that the worst pitching season by a White Sox starter ever?
  21. I still think Pelfrey is an alright bullpen piece since we dont' have anyone interesting he's blocking.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) This weekend showed how sloppy CFB is, how bad the refs are, and how excessively long the games are. But damn is it entertaining. It's hard because these massive comebacks that make college football bearable are only possible by the fact that the games are 5 hours long.
  23. To win awards after the jump pumps me up. Not that they needed them, but still. In 10 or so years (hopefully less) we'll hear "That's the first sox minor leaguer to win a monthly award after a promotion since Kopech and Jimenez" and we'll say "OH man if they can be half as good as those guys we'll be in good shape"
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) They seem to play him up the middle in the infield a bit...I've seen him hit a few rockets right back up the middle and then suddenly there is a guy right there. Probably true to be honest I could only find Fangraphs shift tab with traditional stats so I assumed that meant it didn't have non traditional ABs. Will probably be more accurate after 2017 or if someone knows where to find that. Edit: nvm i just completely whiffed on that tab. Ignore that entire second half.
