QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 10:39 PM) Came here to post this myself. Seven seasons in, and I still have trouble remembering people's names. The only thing I'll add is that I don't understand why Benjen didn't hop on the horse and ride away with Jon. Does he turn into a WW now? If so, will he (and th dragon) still have a bit of good in them and turn on the Night King at a key point and save Jon/Dany? Your last paragraph terrifies me because that would be "the alternate universe is just heaven!" level bad ending for me. -
Adam Jahns ✔ @adamjahns . @MarkPotash : Is there a way to work Trubisky in with 1s without it being an "affront" to Glennon?#Bears coach John Fox: "Probably not." hope that copied over well. Very tired of Glennon's mopey attitude. Not sure what more Bears coudl have done to put him in a position to win a battle aside from cutting all other QBs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) The trick right now is - we've got a few monsters like Kopech, Jiminez on the way, and hopefully we can turn Moncada into one as well. We'll have FA money to play with. Can we get 3 or 4 league average starters, a strong bench, and a couple of bullpen arms out of the guys we have in our system right now? Those like 7 outfielders, Anderson, Sanchez, Saladino, the catchers - if we can fill that portion of our lineup, bench, and rotation with those guys, that sets us up to be able to find actual "last pieces" in FA, rather than having to try to fill 10 positions in a single offseason like we tried to do the last 2 years. Agreed. But key for me after the post 2014 failure, is when these guys start coming up, if we start to fill holes I want to fill them shooting for moon with elite. I don't want to plug holes of negative WAR guys with Average players. I want to use the money/excess players to go after best players available, with the random back of the bullpen/rotation candidates notwithstanding.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) I am totally ok with having league average players on my 2019 and 2020 contending teams. A big part of the problem the last 2 years was how many positions the White Sox had filled with guys who were substantially less than league average players, or at least how much they had to spend in money and talent to bring positions up to league average. If Delmonico is a "league average player" in 2020, he would be doing that for pre-arbitration dollars still. Give me a left handed hitting LF who puts up an .800 ish OPS to balance out being pretty weak defensively and that's a league average player and a guy who I'm ok with being on the team. We paid Melky Cabrera like $13 million a year to do that. This is how I feel. One of the reasons there was Saladino hype was the fact that he was doing exactly what Brett Lawrie was doing except we didn't have to send 2 players to get him or pay him arb salary. A lot of these guys like Delmonico/Leury/K. Smith have been giving us the type of production we've been sending out loads of money/players for the past 3 years. And no way they would have relied on those guys had we been contending.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) So why did they try and kill him Self-hating Night Kings smdh -
Yeah defensively though wanting. Smith had loads of trouble getting on same page with Lopez. Narvaez is not an effective receiver. offensively, almost incredible how good they've been.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 06:56 AM) Haven't done a good job of making you care about any of the rookies as they try to make the roster. McCoy is easily best part of the show. Exactly. Basically only the UDFA lb is a character.
-
Unless someone predicted Saladino was going to get a back injury I'm not apologizing for thinking he could stick as a low-level starter. He had improved last year to acceptable offense and was versatile defender and good base runner. Not someone you don't upgrade over, but the kind of production we had struggled to find internally for years. Then he injured his back. Maybe that wasn't the cause, but it usually is. Congratulations, take a lap. A guy who needed every bit of his baseball talent to succeed injured himself making it unlikely he can return to that level.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Yeah, I'm not entirely clear on the strategy with Cersei. Like, they need a cease fire so Dany + dragons can look North, but Dany could just do what Stannis did and, you know, go North. An actual battle with the army of the dead doesn't work unless and until you get to the Night King. Right now, any losses by the army of dead are offset by any losses in life on the side of men being raised as wights. What value does Cersei bring to the table (other than maybe the mad genius of Qyburn?). Well now they at least know to focus on the white walkers. Those suckers didn't just die around him they dusted. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) I'm just enjoying it. The conversations had walking toward the dead were worth the commitment the series has been for me alone. The Brienne conversation and making monster babies? s***, that was perfect. See, this part is entertaining but also what has bothered me about the show this season. They are way too self aware of conversation around show. The joke about Gendry rowing, the diving into Tormund and Brienne, it's a lot of "haha, we know you guys were joking about this, wink wink" Which reminds me so much of comic book movies and the kind of shallow fan service that makes you feel like you liked the film but then forget everything about it hours later. It's empty calories. I enjoyed last night's episode, but it just is riding on all of the work done seasons ago now. Due to nothing recently, I actually felt like the night king could have killed Dany and Jon takes over the dragons. But then I came to my senses. They are too scared now to kill Bronn. Too scared to kill Jorah. It's just a comic book movie now, people are supposedly dying but no one is in danger. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) I do agree that the rushed ending of these last 2 seasons is making characters like Bran wasted. He could be doing so much in the show to further plot lines, give history (and some really good stuff too) but instead every scene with him thus far has been wasted. Besides making Littlefinger uncomfortable, he's done nothing this season. Maybe that changes in the finale. I'm interested to see how this meet goes with Cersei. Even with the combined armies (like how much help does Cersei really provide anyways) I'm not sure how the army of the dead loses with the ability to take down dragons and now having a dragon. Sam, Qyburn, someone will probably come up with a just in time fix is my guess at this point. Agree with this totally. I also think it's less about getting cersei's army than getting assurance that she will not attack so they can focus on the war to the north. Agree also on bran. They put so much legwork into that guy and then they finally get him back around characters, and he sits by a tree and uses his insane power to ... do nothing. Speak in dumbledore. Him and Sam are going to play a big part I would guess, but judging by this season I don't think they'll earn it. They tried with sam montages, but it still seemed kind of incredible when it was just like "Dragonstone sits on dragon glass" "what's that gilly, jons not a bastard, okay!" -

The gendry thing was a call to Marathon. I think it's safe to assume they were there for days. But the rock thing, when he threw the rock they realized the lake had refrozen during that time so they attacked. He also threw a rock into a mass of people and it just happened to hit a guy in the face, not sure that shows ridiculous aim. Some of your list is real, some is kinda nitpicky. But the writing has been terrible. -

If we are going to count the inconsistencies, I found it v v weird that those things can't swim, a lot was made of it, then all the sudden they lept out of the water holes like they could swim. -

It's certainly fun and entertaining, but considering how unique and hard to pull off this show has been for so long, it's just a little sad that it feels really rushed to end. There has never in its history been a "we just need to get them here so this happens" moment as obvious as the terrible kidnapping wight plan, but it allowed the dragon thing to happena nd dany and jon to align. But at that point it's just a tv show. It's a good TV show, but just how many other shows could possibly do what GOT has done to this point? I just wanted it to stick the landing a little better. -
