    8/18 Games

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 09:24 PM) Doesn't walk (2 in 26 games with Dash), 18 strikeouts still not a great contact rate considering also has zero power. Those two extra base hits are his first with the Dash. He has 8 home runs this year. Not every prospect is going to be a sure fire starter, doesn't mean it's not interesting. He's only 20 in high A.

Ignoring Rons ignorance to say yrizzari is hitting over .300 for the dash and now tonight a home run and a double.

Rymer with his 15th HR. DJ Peterson with another, and most improbably, Roberto Pena with his first.
  5. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...ilb&org=145 Yrizzari up to .280
  6. Great news. His progress has been incredible
  7. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) And the US went to war with Italy and was a certifiable war hero in that one! I think you need to fess up that you heard there was debate about this monument and you reflexively took the -anti. Balbo is not a controversial figure, and fascist Italy was quite different than Nazi Germany and even Franco's Spain. Balbo is not guilty-by-association of Germany's atrocities in the 30's and 40's. That doesn't follow, the US ended up going to war WITH the USSR, it wouldn't wash Stalin of criticism. "Not as bad as Hitlers Germany" isn't really the standard for deflecting criticism. The effect it wasn't as bad as Francos Spain was likely due to time. But Fascist Italy not that bad, go ahead, prove that for me. I can already guess it's going to largely be absent of it's African campaigns.
  8. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Balbo died before the USA entered the war. He fought with the Americans in WW1. Correct, that was false to say, but the point is US went to war with Italy to which he was very much a part of the cause of that.
  9. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainmen...0817-story.html Excellent article. And you'll not a theme that runs across these statues, the idea that they were never controversial is false. And honestly, I'd love to see an artist repurpose it in the name of Chicago WWII veterans who had to go and fight Balbo.
  10. I actually find Balbo to be a fairly interesting conversation. Unlike most confederate statues, it is largely marking an actual historic moment. These were commemorating the worlds fair trans atlantic flights. But, they were also intended to honor Italian Americans showing off the contribution of Italians to the world. There is also the parallels to Lindbergh and Balbo. "Luckily" for lindbergh, his flight exploits have managed to outshine his disgraceful turn to fascism around WWII, largely due to the lack of power he actually accumulated and America winning soundly. Balbo was an actual blackshirt with power. And that part of his story, in my experience, outshines his flights. But Lindbergh was also American. His contributions were legitimate to building this country. We can't say same for Balbo. If Italian community in Chicago really wanted to keep it I'd be open to hearing that argument. But it screams to me of something more apt for a plaque at the spot and a museum. But it has a more legitimate case to standing as a historical marker than the confederate statues.
  11. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) So anyone who is uncomfortable with tearing down hundreds of years of history is neo Nazi and/or white supremacist? So expected.
  12. On one hand, white supremacists and neo nazis marched on a virginia town culminating in counterprotestors being run down by a car. On the other, someone somewhere you can't name said to blow up mount rushmore. It's the same.
  13. Had our auction draft last night. Always gets pushed earlier trying to wrangle schedules. Overall - Last year was such a weird year for fantasy that everyone seemed unsure what to do. The stalwarts (Leveon Bell, Antonio Brown, Julio Jones) went for insanely high prices relative to other years as people just dont' feel comfortable predicting those "mid-level" guys anymore.
  14. Moncada's swing is just so not violent, and sometimes he seems to half-swing and sends it to the wall. He's smart too, he'll start to figure out 2 strikes and when he pokes his bat out there he's more likely than others to get a base hit.
  15. Also I missed that Yurchak is only 20, about to turn 21. He's still sporting that nice 28 walks to 25 ks (14% k rate, 16% walk rate) with modest power. If he is capable of tapping into more power that's pretty interesting. And even more interesting if he can make it at 3b.
  16. Great Falls had 19 runs on 19 hits. Logan Taylor is enjoying feasting on this level, hitting .358 / .441 /.448 and a nice 14% k rate. May be our new Schnurbusch but Taylor was rated as a superb CF. He just turned 23 in June. He could be a nice 4th outfielder a la Engel.
  17. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) Not necessarily "full season" yet, but Jhoandro Alfaro hasn't done much yet. And that's another reason that I'm a bit more encouraged by these comfortable starts here, or at least "holding their own" starts. Alfaro had a .436 OPS in his age 17 season. These guys may fall off next year. But nice to have shown capability already.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) That's terrifying and makes me think he should have had a lot more time in AAA. I mostly agree with Rowand44 that the "player x failed because he didn't get enough time in minors" is just convenient post hoc analysis. Buxton would have likely failed anyways, and Moncada looks nowhere NEAR as hopeless as Buxton did in making contact or viewing pitches. If anything I think the seasoning just smooths over major league level difficulties early on or may make marginal differences in how good they are. edit: And with where we are at as a team I don't care that he's up and working on it here, but I wouldn't care if he had been left down all year.
  19. There are a lot of bad state lawmakers, but if you are a state lawmaker in missouri, 99% chance you are terrible.
  20. The talent evaluators I respect like Longenhagen have stressed that Moncada will have an adjustment period in MLB moreso than others. He even mentioned Buxton in that sentence. But those struggles are baked into their evaluation, not washed over. It's going to be a bit scary, but I 100% believe he'll get there. Far scarier to me than his ks (having watched a lot of them) is his RH ability right now. I thought power would be an issue from the right side, but contact looks difficult for him there too.
  21. I think this board underrates Vlad, I see him and JImenez very similar. This was why I was so excited to get Jimenez. Offense is just so much more fun.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) I'll be at today's KAN game Nice, look forwrd to hearing how it goes.
  23. I know part of it is a fluky first half but I don't think any of us have grappled with just how crazy it was that Avi Garcia became an all star. If Nicky keeps this run (not .400, but you know what I mean, being a good power hitter) through the end of year, great for us.
  24. I'm really happy for the type of production Davidson has performed, but, I also have not felt like he's been anywhere as close as Leury, Avi, Kevan Smith and now even Delmonico have to creating a shot at being on 2019 roster. Due to likely nobody being at 3b he's going to be around next year, but he needs a big jump in his walks. But I'm really happy that he's gotten a big league run and has come back from bad slumps. Those 2 years in AAA were really bottom barrel and he picked himself up and gave himself a chance at a turn in the bigs.
